So today my iTunes decided to shuffle over to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles. One particular song (see title) got me thinking, where do I want to be when I'm sixty-four?

Do you even want to live that long? Retirement? Sitting on top of a couple pounds of homegrown dank? Sitting on your front porch with your spouse, perhaps a delightful grandchild sitting on your knee?

I would answer, but I really don't have an answer myself. I need some time to meditate on this, but am still curious regarding what you all have to say.

I definitely want to live that long. Sir Paul McCartney is now 65 himself. He managed fine.

I look forward to people still needing and feeding me when I'm 64. And I figure I'll get by with a little help from my friends.

Well I hope ill have a nice town house in the suburbs. Id have 2 adult children who had grandkins of their own. Johns land will still be mining for coal and gas and limestone so we'll be set. And then we can travel and shop.

This Saturday is my 45th birthday and 64 is only 19 years away. I do not want to be an old person and really hope I do not get plagued with longevity like some of my family members. With any luck, 64 or 65 will be the lucky number for me and I will not have to be old.
Me and my wife were just discussing this very subject the other day after we heard the song on the radio in the Tacoma and she is not cool with my ideas because she is five years older than I am and does not want to spend her old days without me.
The people in her family are plagued with longevity, they live into their 90s. That aint gonna happen to me because I will take matters into my own hands at a certain age no matter what. Better dead than old.

That's nice to hear! I enjoyed making it. I was raised on the Beatles.

FasterSpider! Better dead than old? First of all, 64 or 65 isn't old. Not compared to your likely lifespan. Just take care of your health, exercise your body and your mind, and you'll feel great during that time. I hope I live to be 110 and until I have great-great grandchildren.

Interesting...I need to take some time to think about that. I rarely think about the distant future other than to optimistically hope that I'm financially independent and enjoying the activities I enjoy most with people I love and good health ...and of course lots of buddha. :D

My ex *sniffle* says I need to think about the future more. Right now, I can barely think past tomorrow. :wtf:

couch-potato ~ that's a good song, man. I think I'm gonna go listen to it right now. My ex loves that song and says it is about carpe diem (seizing the day) and getting out and doing things instead of just sitting watching tv. You never know what is going to happen. You don't want to have missed out on all the things you wanted to do! :D

I want to be retired, maybe married or at least with a wonderful partner, living in a sailboat smoking the finally decriminalized dankity-dank.

Or, if this global warming nonsense happens before then, I want to be leading a tribe of nomads across the Canadian wasteland to eke out a living from Earth's scant remaining resources. :D

It's important to have an artistic outlet like writing, painting, or music. These things keep the mind young. When you have learned to improvise and create something, you will have the feeling of joy. This inner journey is mankind's greatest characteristic, and highest achievement. It is up to the individual to develop it in his or her lifetime, and continue to hone it for as long as nature permits.

Unfortunately, I've always thought that the reason why I don't think about the future (the being old part) that much is because I never thought I would reach past 50. I think that is kind of a pessimistic thing to think...and I think as the happier one gets in life, the more one wants to live a long time with the people they love. :D Awww...how touching... :D:D

This internet thingy has opened up a whole new world for me. It's a recent discovery for me.

..."will you still need me, will you still fed me, when I'm 64?"-Beatles

..."what a drag it is getting old"-Rolling Stones

I'm thinking a mini-farm in New England with a nice garden and a couple horses, a spoiled bulldog, and a nice man to share it all with. Simple.

stinky i think we would make great neighbors. something tells me that kayaks/canoes and fishing would occupy most of our time.

I think so too. Tell ya what, you live on the NY side, I'll live on the VT side, and we can spit watermelon seeds across the Hudson... Sound good?
Actually it would probably end up being like Grumpy Old Men. Well, Grumpy Old People anyway. I don't plan to age gracefully. hahaha!!!
