Try a bit torrent site like mininova and you can download it free.

FF7 is still the best RPG of all time, no contest.

FF7 is still the best RPG of all time, no contest.hmm.. i love all final fantasies but that comment could be mistaken just because of different tastes.
some people don't like 7's patches and holes, storyline wise.

Exactly...
For me it's not even the best Final Fantasy let alone the best RPG of all time. It just happened to be the lucky that it was the first 3D RPG . An emo filled 3D RPG released at the time when all the 80s gaming children started hitting their angst filled teen years and latched onto it. Now it's made out to be some godly game when it was merely "ok". Oh how nostalgia blinds.

If you want to play an awesome RPG, try out Knights of the Old Republic on PC or Xbox....

I was playing the snowboarding part stoned out of my mind about a month ago. :)

I don't know alot about the storyline because I never got into FF but my friend loves the series.

I play WoW and CS:S

i cant even belive you just outed ff7 and replaced it with KOTOR, great game and all but not even in the same league as any of the Final fantasys. The best part about ff7 is its amazing and original storyline along with streamlined gameplay fun characters and a comfortable combat system its got everything a rpg fan could want

now to look at KOTOR 1 (not even gonna be talking about KOTOR 2...BIG let down) mediocre storyline with the least suprising twist ever, patchy gameplay, and several usless characters, only real reason it got game of the year was that it was a new take on an old favorite and the quite innovative and original combat sysytem

and to give you perspective in the first week after being realesed in the states it sold over 500,000 copies in a place where turn-based rpgs and rpgs in general couldnt be found it opened up platform gamers to rpgs and has probably been one of the most influential games in history

You kidding me? KotoR's storyline squashes FF7 completely. FF7 tries to "pretend" it's deep but fails miserably. It goes in depth on a couple of the team members but leaves the others fairly empty and just filler. And come on what kind of villain is the emo-hermaphrodite Sephiroth? KotOR's plot twist is absolutely excellently done. It goes in depth on all the characters, some of the best defined characters in gaming. HK-47, Jolee Bindo. KotOR II isn't as good as the first one in terms of gripping storyline but it's still great and still contains some great in-depth characters.

The best storyline in gaming however isn't contained in an RPG but an action series. Legacy of Kain.

you two are comparing a U.S. RPG to a japanese RPG.
two rivals. ever since D&D and the original FF.
KOTOR is great(well because Im a closet star wars nerd) but don't compare it to FF7, it was YEARS before. and 7 wasn't much an "emo" game, it was a bad-ass game. you must have not finished it. what KOTOR enemy needed a save point and all? none. it was easy compared to FF7. even advanced players were stuck on some parts of FF7. Ruby weapon, emrerald(sp) weapon, and....i forgot the other one. but those enemies are classic final fantasy challanges. KOTOR was a really linear game. a good U.S. Rpg is oblivion, morrowind, umm.... baldur's gate(classic).

On the contrary I did finish FF7 and did in fact beat the weapons. I've played every Final Fantasy except I and II and have beat all 3D Final Fantasies except XII and X-2. One of these days I plan on setting down and extensively playing XII..too many damn games to play.

..and FF7 is far more linear than KotOR. Yeah you could roam around the world a little more, but FF7 free roaming is but an illusion there is but ultimately one path, but KotOR offered branching storyline decisions, multiple endings based on different choices you chose to make. Nearly every conversation you got into, every event in the game allows you to make a choice of what to do that effects the overall game. Depth wise I mentioned side characters like HK-47 and Jolee Bindo, these were side characters that were not really needed for the main storyline and yet they had more depth to them than the main characters of FF7. You can easily compare KotOR to FF7 because they are both story driven, fairly linear RPGs. Full fledged Western RPGs likes Oblivion and Morrowind however are not so much about the preset storyline as they are about the player making their own place in that world, you can play those games for a hundred hours and not touch the main storyline. They are the prime examples of non-linear games which is why I have not mentioned them. KotOR is more closely like japanese RPGs in terms of element priority.

I get rather tired of seeing FF7 being the flagship RPG title , when you could have easily replaced it with any other 3D RPG of that gen and it would have done just as well. I guarantee you if FF8 had come out in place of FF7, FF8 would be proclaimed the best RPG of all time. FF7 is popular for the reasons I stated before. Hell I'd say if FF7 had came out with traditional 2D graphics it would be mostly forgotten as most of the first half of the series is.

You know what was a great Playstation RPG, hell it was Square made as well and one of my favorite games. Vagrant Story. now that is a great RPG with a very well told storyline.

It's all relative. We can argue until the sun comes down but it's all a matter of opinion.
I've enjoyed every single one of the games we've mentioned. I understand what you mean by 7 being overrated. people need to let it go.
i say that now but i'll squeal like a school girl if they re-make it, PS3 style lol.

damn, you all got me wanting to play RPG's now.
