I was upset to see MJ used as a symbol of "Drugs" by the tv media in association with a story of a drug bust of 6 out of state gangsters. So, I sent of this e-mail to the news anchor/producer.

Marselis,
I enjoy watching WCAX news, morning and evening. You have a great staff and I really like all the reporters, anchors and producers. Good Work.
However, I do have a comment. On last evening's news a segment opened with the image of a cannabis leaf and the title "Drug Bust". The following story showed a number of out of state gangsters being arrested for selling and distributing powder and crack cocaine. Without getting into the recent medical marijuana law changes in this state or the marijuana decriminalization or legalization issues, I do not like to see cannabis shown by the media as a "drug" especially in the same class as cocaine, heroin or other true "drugs". I would rather see images of needles or crack pipes headline such a story. Yes, I am in favor of legalizing cannabis use for adults over the age of 18.

Thank you and best regards,

Good for you Shov! You da man
If more people had the nerve to do that, things would change faster. If everyone who visited this site took a stand, I think our numbers would be heard. But we are used to just flying under the rada, so it is scary for some to speak out.

I'd love to hear what the response is! I sent an email to Steve Lynch (D- Mass) about his recent vote against an amendment for med mj and big surprise haven't heard a peep back..not even a dumb form letter. Lazy fellow!

he replied, twice.
first he agreed. Then his producer said that the representation was accurate because one of the gangsters was also busted for pot. wtf???

I think that they appreciated my message though.

I agree Shovelhandle, our reps are very good, and our state is getting closer and closer to legalizing mj, it'll be a happy day when it is.
But then you'll be walking down Church st. in a haze calm baking. :rastasmoke:
And the school kid's will be smoking pot (more than they are now!!) but a few studies have shown that it doesn't negatively effect brain development in adolescent's.
The day mj is full legalized I can image plane's flying overhead seeing clouds of weed smoke.

thanks for your reply.
many people like to keep things from kids by making them not available to anyone. that is just bullshit. not all adult things are suitable for kids. movies, books, medicines, alcohol, and many many more. but, the answer is protect the kids, watch the kids, teach the kids. there are many things in this world that's not suitable for them. makes no sense at all to me to have everything G rated.

respectfully,

Earlier this week WCAX showed a segment where they paid an out of state polling service to find out if Vermonters were in favor of reducing marijuana penalties. The result was 39% against lower penaties and 55% in favor of lighter penaties.

The results are like that because that majority of vermont smokes weed! Seriously.... Almost everyone in vt smokes because of how easy it is to get decent stuff from canada.

You sent him a message in a very respectful, yet informative manner. I really wish more people presented themselves like this.
