So lately ive been having some wicked nightmares. Night terrors actually and ive noticed that ive had them mostly after I smoke. Which is weird b/c ive never had this problem before. But ive actually been sort of afraid to sleep b/c there so intense and awful. Anyone else have this problem?

I dont really get nightmares. I have had a few in my life and they feel so real. I feel bad that you get them frequently. What happens if you havnt smoked for a couple of days and then sleep? Do you still get them. I know that most dreams occur during REM sleep, which is a lighter stage of sleeping but dont know if nightmares occur in this same stage. Weed should put you in a deeper stage of sleep causing you to dream less. If nightmares do occur in a deeper stage of sleep it could be a problem.
The only advise I give you is try to make sure you are in a good place mentally before you go to sleep. Listen to some chilled music and try not to think about anything that worries you. I usually find if I am thinking about something before bed, a lot of the time if features in my dream.

I agree^, listening to radio always gives me way better dreams than if I have the TV on or something.
EDIT: Sweet, just got post 1'666. :rasta:

yeah.... i'm literally plauged by nightmares...
about my brother, about my wife leaving me mostly... those two make up about 80% of my dreams (not nightmares... 80% of the time i dream of one of those two)

I'm in a similar situation to yourself. Lately I have had nightmares nearly every night for the past week or so. As Slip has said, they tend to be about possible real life situations. I have had one unrealistic nightmare though, it was about zombies.

I get nightmares when I'm sick and when I'm stressed out. If I fall asleep high, I never get nightmares.

Reb, have you altered dosages or added in any new medications to your line-up, by any chance? You're on a combination of meds that can aggravate sleep disturbances like night terrors. I happened to catch those a few days ago in the medical area, I believe it was. That's very common, in fact. Next time you check in with your prescribing physician, let him/her know.

as much as i hate scary things i really enjoy nightmares AFTER ive had them. not during them.
like one time i had a dream that there were spikes coming out of the ground, and everything was black or red and it was hot and lava was everywhere. and there were cottonballs stuck on the spikes! screeped me out in my dream for some reason but i think its a pretty funny thing when i look back on it.

I never sleep:stoned:
really?
how or why?
I get nightmares when I don't smoke or at least they're more memorable when I wake. Pretty vivid and actually relevant to reality, which makes them twice as frightening. Maybe it's a calling of some sort, reb?

that really sucks reb, i totally know that feeling where you don't want to sleep b/c of your dreams. i don't dream often, but when i do it's usually crazy nightmares which in recent years have been increasingly more realistic. i've smoked before going to bed though and i haven't noticed any kind of dream afterward. usually dreams are a product of what are going on in your waking life. is everything okay?

Ever since i was like five, every once in a long while i would have this really wierd freaky ass recurring dream. Everything is white and i shift my view and see a parking meter and next to it leaning on the meter is this tiny little yellow bird thats all poofy and round and its flipping a coin like two face from batman does. ANd the bird is whistling a happy tune. Then outta nowhere this horrible gigantic thing which i cant describe explodes out of nowhere and makes the most horrible noise in the world and basically eats the universe. It is really freaky and i know the feeling of not wanting to go to sleep. I have insomnia sometimes after i have a series of nightmares. I just want so badly not to experience it again. Big time terror.

when i smoke i get really vivid dreams. you could call them nightmares but they are more like epic adventures where i am trying to survive or something and i really enjoy them for some reason. Also, when i smoke, sometimes i have a dream where i get in a fight and i punch like a pussy.

maybe playing peaceful or cheerful, music that you like, at a whisper volume and on the repeat setting, will help you sleep more peacefully.

I first got stoned in Germany a few years ago, and everytime i fall asleep high i wake up the next morning with a vague "feeling" that i had in germany. You know, by feeling i mean, you know when you have different times in your life and certain things remind you of those old times, and you just get this feeling like your nostalgic and miss those times, no matter if they were good times or bad.

Funny, I find that if I go to bed high in any way, I don't get dreams. Either that or it causes me to never remember them  But I really think it just brings less dreaming overall.
However, when I've either been highly stressed or really depressed, my dreams become very intense, happy, and numerous, which I enjoy. Unless I smoke before bed, of course.

Thanks everyone. Yeah birdgirl my meds havent changed but if this continues I might have to tell my psychiatrist about it. The dreams are usually about me dumping John and then missing him so badly I go insane. Like Im trying to call him (and lately in the dream in always pregnant....why? I dunno I know im not tho) and hes not there or he is and theres a new girl there. Which is insane cuz' we've never been better. We don't argue and he cant wit to get married. I think the more I fall in love with him the scarier the thought is of us being teared apart. OR sometimes its really insane dreams like zombies and horrible jurrasic park dreams or diseases like the plauge......crazy I know but at the time its intense! Oh well....I guess im gonna see how much longer this happens and then ill tell my psychiatrist on my next appointment when I get refills. THANKS EVERYONE!

reb... you should contact me on AIM, I know a lot about dreams and such. I had to battle a reoccuring night terror for many years of my childhood and early teens. Usually reoccuring nightmares/night terrors are a result of some unresolved subconcious anxiety, if you look into the symbols and themes within the dream you may realize deeper meanings of the dream, once the meaning is figured out and the issue is resolved, or at least faced by your concious, the nightmares go away 90% of the time... If you want to contact me to explain further details of the dream I'd be more than happy to help you, as i find dreams fascinating also
I'd reccomend looking into a dream interpretation book or a dream symbols dictionary... I have a very good one that has helped me understand lots of my dreams.

i'll be sure to keep AIM online whenever im on the boards... teeth falling out is a common symbol, although i forget what exactly it means right now
"3) Losing teeth may symbolize a feeling or fear of getting old or losing sexual attractiveness. Or they may represent a retreat to infancy, hence a refusal to face reality. It may also symbolize a new phase in your life."... im sure theres more meaning to the dream then that though, as i imagine thats only one deatail.

depends on what food you're turning into and the manner in which you become the food...
lucid dreams, are actually very easy to resolve and recognize the meaning of once you recognize symbols within it, the fact that it its lucid to allows you to do some subconcious resolving while sleeping too, lucid dreaming is easier to do in reoccuring dreams, as it is easier to notice dream triggers (reoccuring sequnces in dreams that alert the concious that the person is sleeping), and therefore easier to take control of the course of the dream

Yeah I started getting this dream when O strted losing alot of weight and finally getting hot (I used to be a chubby goth chick). So maybe its the fact that im so afraid fo going back to that. And now this is a new phase of my life.

heheh i know a lot about dreams, ironicly i've recently developed insomnia...
did you know studies have noticed hand movements during sleep of many deaf and hard of hearing people, scientists say these movements resemble sign language and are a form of sleeptalking
studies have shown that congenitally blind people still have dreams in which they hear, feel and smell things

"Nightmares may be a response to real life trauma and situations. These type of nightmares fall under a special category called Post-traumatic Stress Nightmare (PSN). Nightmares may also occur because we have ignored or refused to accept a particular life situation. Research shows that most people who have regular nightmares have had a family history of psychiatric problems, bad drug experiences, people who have contemplated suicide, and/or rocky relationships. Nightmares are an indication of a fear that needs to be acknowledged and confronted. It is a way for our subconscious make up to take notice. "Pay attention!""
I used to get nightmares when I was younger... people chasing me and whatnot. Since I've matured, my bad dreams arenā??t as common, but when I do have them, most of the time the bad dreams seem to refer to real life situationsā?¦ being rejected by former girlfriends, loosing lifelong friends, forgetting crucial pieces of information in times of need, not being able to complete a task, the occasional fight/being in a time of war, trying to help old friends but being unable to provide support. Stuff of that nature. Reoccuring bad dreams can make it difficult to sleep, and good sleep is the most important thing for a healthy life. The most important thing is trying to decipher why they are happening and what can you do to confront them. I hope things get better for you Rebgirl. Good Luck.

I had a recurring nightmare as a child, of opening the back door in the night to see a huge blue monster there, on the other side of the screen door, glaring at me. I got a real start a while back at a friend's house when I saw his kid's huge stuffed "Sulley" from "Monsters, Inc." I hadn't seen the movie. It was the same monster.

I had a night mare to no zombies but I was being chased, its funny how even in my dreams I breath hard and hold my breath under water. My hart was pounding outta my damn chest and I bet whil I was sleepin I was holdin my breath. Its soo real Then I kept waking up like every 2 hours and pick up where I left off in the dream. At one point I was in H2H combat and I woke up growling and flipping around
