OK lets go slow.....

Back in 2005 I was working on developing a grow light.

All the lights in the stores were rated on Kelvin.

This meant little to me as Kelvin is not really a color though more of an average color.

I began to look for a code to convert Kelvin to nanometers.

After much looking I found it.

To convert K into nanometers (if in the visable light spectrum of 360 - 720) you do as follows

3,000,000 divided by the degrees Kelvin and you get the nanometers.

Now at the same time I was studying Fung Sui which is an ancient form of math in Asia.

It had to do with balance. With this on my mind I began playing around with the formula to see what its balance was.

After some healthy bowls this is what I came up with...

1. 3(100,000) / 360 = 833.333 or A
2. A-2(360) = 113.333 or B
3. B/(360/10) = Ci
Ci = 3.14814814814

The number looked much like pi. Pi is achieved with over 100 calculus steps and basically is wrong.

I rewrote the formulas to be a bit easier to learn making more sense and the rest is basically proof.

Ok regarding Kelvin its like this....

You got three primary colors.

Red is 660 Nanometers
Yellow is 540 Nanometers and
Blue is 420 Nanometers

You can have 68% yellow, 22% blue and 10% red light and get and average of 526 which is green.

526 would be expressed as 5703 Kelvin.

Now you can get 5703 Kelvin with other percentages of red, yellow and green. Say you have 68% red light. The other percentages would just adjust and you would get still 5703 which is why I say it means little. It is an average of nanometers that could really be any color. It is a broad way to define a frequency really. The CRI or color rating index is better to use when defining grow bulbs how ever is tough to do in your head at the grow shop.



This is basically what the sun is and why plants are green......
