July 30, 2007

Well kids, It??s Granny Storm Crow??s 60th birthday! That??s a pretty big milestone. I??ve out-lived my beautiful, crazy mother (59 years 11 months) and I??ve been married and toking for 40 years. So, since 60 rolls around only once, I decided to give you a gift! I though I??d share my notebook with you. It is a compilation of medical studies, news articles and information on cannabis.

In addition to the obvious use of people who are ill getting information on what might heal them, I hope that many of you will take up a challenge from me. I want this spread around- to your doctor, your politicians, ministers, and anyone who could use the info.

Information does no good if it is hoarded. If you know someone who is ill, copy and paste the part they need, or print up the article, and mail it to them (anonymously, might be a good idea in a lot of cases). Also, send a page or three of a print out of the titles and URLs and a typed message (again anonymously) leading to this post to your doctor (or for Nightwolf, City Hall! :D). Something simple, like ??Want to know more? Visit here!?and give the URL.

I??m hoping that in return for the hours I spent collecting this, you will give me a present in return- mailing this out and telling others. By spreading knowledge to help others, you give them power over their own lives! Knowledge is power! And the truth will set us free (to smoke our pot in peace!) - Granny:hippy:

Granny... I hold you in the utmost regard, and your opinion is valued to me above all others on this site. You have never, in my opinion, been wrong yet, and everything you say is worth reading at least twice.. when I saw the title of the thread I was pretty happy because I knew whatever this thread contained, it was going to be great! I cant tell you how little I saw the overwhelming amount of information coming, just as I cant tell you how inexplicably overjoyed I became scrolling down the seemingly endless lists of links.

I have been, for the past few years on and off, collecting as much information as I could about all the vast and wonderful medicinal benefits of marijuana, for the sole purpose of composing a single, microscopically in-depth essay so complete and magnanimous in scope that all who read it will have no choice but to agree that marijuana should not only be smoked, but should most definitely be legalized. Granny this is the most wonderful present I, personally, have ever received, and I can assure you I will utilize this information to the fullest, and the end to prohibition is that much closer.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Heres to the halfway point!! :D  :D :D

EDIT: I LOVE YOU TOO!!!!

Dear Granny,
Thank you for being a positive force in this community. I know in my heart that marijuana is a special medicine, and therefore the criminalization of those who benefit from it is unjust and immoral and will be ended when the collective conscienceness becomes more aware.
Your efforts will be a guidepost for the rest of us to follow as we create the world we choose to live in.

mseerob. No, I'm not asthmatic, but my hubby was/is. Hasn't had an attack for years. Smoke is bad for your lungs. Have you tried a vaporizer? You might be pleasantly surprised. The chemicals in pot are bronchodialtors (or however you spell it), but the smoke freaks your lungs out and they go into the asthma routine. Vaping allows you to get the chemicals without the harmful smoke particles. Eating pot, although slow to take effect, might be something to look into.

Just make it clear when you do, Grazil, that most of them are abstracts. Abstracts are brief, high-level summaries, and while they provide compact information, they're not the proof that's in the pudding. That's in the actual study data and/or reports, which few people will be able to access, at least through PubMed and other sites. Abstracts are called abstracts for a reason. Many of them require someone with an ability to extract scientific information and draw correct conclusions, too. Lots of folks immediately take a postiive-seemng abstract and draw the conclusion "Well, this means MJ is all good and completely harmless," which is never what they're actually saying.

Hehe well I certainly thank you for your concern, Birdgirl. Yes I am well aware of that, and years of sorting through propagandist bullshit, and writing essays in medical format has prepared me for this task. I dont simply intend on creating a hodgepodge of heresay for all to read. Rather, I am going to use all of this wonderful information to gather as many studies and references on each and every one of these sub-categories as I can. Ideally, in the future I will have received grants to conduct research of my own. I also intend to have a comprehensive rating system that will place each claimed detractory/pository effect on a varied scale of truthfullness/bullshit. The aim is to take every single claim and myth ever placed upon this plant and address them all. Viewers can then see which ones are either scientific fact, probably true with supporting evidence, probably false, or straight up bullshit. In the interest of being totally unbiassed I will include as many of the detractors as I find as well. I dont want to be accussed of being a propagandist, this must be strictly truth, fact and empirical data.

P.S. My name is Grazi not Grazil :)

That is SO COOL!!!! And yes, I know that most are just abstracts. Most folks don't have the time or education to read a whole report-the statistics can be a pain, to say the least :wtf: . I figured the abstracts would provide a good starting point for those who wanted to really "get into it", and sufficient info for most folks. Go for it, Grazi!- Granny:hippy:

You misunderstood me, GraziL (and yes, that was a deliberate L I put there. You put it there before me when you chose your member name.). That wasn't a caveat to you about being aware that they're abstracts. That was a caveat to you when presenting them to your readers on your own compilation site and/or publication. That's why I began by saying, "Just make it clear when you do. . . ". You yourself seem to be able to see the high-level nature of abstracts and distinguish summaries from supporting data, but others cannot, as you probably have already seen here numerous times.

With all your years of propaganda-filtering and writing in medical format, I'm still interested in hearing how you plan to obtain grants and do cannabis research on your own. Are you going to take some formal academic training in bio-medical research?

Lol I love ya to death birdgirl, I swear I do, youre so feisty! :p I didnt mean to come off as rude, so Im sorry if I did! My nickname is Grazi(a shortening of my last name), and I love Mary Jane thats why Grazi Loves Mary was my name of choice for cannadot. Anyway thats off topic, you can call me whatever youd like I guess!

Ahhh yes I did misunderstand the tone of your post and for that Im terribly sorry, the library is supposed to be a place of quiet study, yet I find myself distracted by small children running around like fools, and old men yawning quite obnoxiously in my peripheral vision  :p

You are absolutely correct, I most definitely do need to distinguish between empirical data and abstracts, and I plan to come up with a rather detailed system where I can assign a value to each symptom/cure that will let my readers know how much heed to pay it.

As far as grants, I would love to get grants to help fund my work, however as cannabis is illegal, Im not betting on it. Instead I am aiming to amass my own collection of wealth and fund it completely on my own.

Regarding academics, hopefully I will be able to return to college and continue to pursue my major in Nuclear Physics. I am contemplating turning my minors in biology and chemistry into separate majors and pursuing each of them to the fullest.

Granny you have no idea how thankful I am that you posted this.
My mom has suffered from severe Headaches/Migraine her entire life and has gone through numerous useless treatments for it. Last week she woke up with a migraine so bad that she wanted to kill herself and I had to call an ambulance to rush her to the hospital. Needless to say, that was the last straw and its about time she became educated.

Storm Crow

Give your mom this from me-

Hi hon, I'm Granny- I'm 60 years old and am employed in Special Education. I've used cannabis medically and for pleasure for 40 years. You could pass me on the street and you'd never think "She uses pot." Besides my job, I quilt, sculpt, paint and keep up a lively "cyberlife". The second time around in college (in my mid50s), I wrote most of my papers high and graduated with honors. I have never been arrested. I am well liked and respected and that's enough about me.

I can really sympathize with you about the migraine. I get migraines and recurrent waves of pain through my head. And it always feels like there is a hand inside my skull pressing down on my right eyeball at a 45 degree angle. I can't really remember life before the migraines. This is the result of almost being murdered as a very young child- another child took a hammer to my head in a fit of rage. I survived, but with migraines.

When I was 19, I started getting high like many American kids in the 60s and 70s. For me, there was one major difference. The migraines stopped when I had cannabis. I don't know if it will work this way for you or not. But as long as I have a daily smoke or vape, I don't get migraines or the waves (just "normal" headaches caused by stress or too much sun- we both know the difference between them and a migraine!) My migraines are due to a head trauma, so it might just be a fluke that it stops them. However, considering all the studies done on migraines being prevented or even stopped by cannabis, it would seem logical to give it a fair trial!

No one has ever died from using cannabis. The main dangers are getting arrested (which is avoidable for the most part by using only at home), and lung irritation. Both of these problems can also be addressed by the use of a vaporizer. Your child can explain its use to you. The odor of burning cannabis is very distinctive and can lead to arrest- vaporizers eliminate most of the odor, making it far easier to hide the smell.

Your child has likely shown you some studies from my "Birthday post". I want you to look at the whole thing. Cannabis is a wonder herb! Alzheimer's, ALS, Parkinson's, stroke, MS, fibromyalgia and even cancer can be treated with cannabis. If it were any other herb, it would be being hailed as a panacea, because it is one!

Hon, try a joint or pipeful. If it works- HURRAH! If it doesn't, you are no worse off than you were yesterday. It's worth a try, the doctor's remedies aren't working- maybe cannabis will work for you as well as it has for me. I hope so, no one should ever have migraines! It has been more than 3 years since my last one. - Granny:hippy:

I just don't really think a lot of this information is from "unbiased" sources. Sorry to break your bubble, but I don't honestly think it has this many beneficial effects. People saying cannabis will "save the human race" have a serious problem, unbiased studies thats are performed correctly are quite rare. Fuel?, Medicine?, building materials?!? seriously, it can replace certain minimal requirements in every one of these fields, but it will not "save" the human race.

Prairie, we are all allowed our opinions! You have yours. I have mine. :)

All I know is that I don't get the migraines that have plagued me since early childhood, as long as I use cannabis. My first "California legal" harvest was about 3 years ago. I have not had a single migraine in those 3 years. I quit cannabis for almost 3 years before I "got legal", because of my job. I wanted to see if I could survive without cannabis. It was 3 years of hell. It hurt so bad that my doctor finally had my head scanned for tumors or other abnormalities. Nothing. Got a baggie. Migraines stopped. I got my medical records and ""got legal". No more migraines since then. For me, that is the simple truth. You can have your own opinion about it, but for me, the difference in the quality of my life is quite clear.

Knickerbka- MY BAD! :o So to make up for it, you get a "sneak peek" at part of my update which I plan to let loose around New Year's! (I have over 100 new studies on various subjects)

Please don't get me wrong here, I agree cannabis has many benefits and of course many studies have been done by impartial groups and many articles exist on such sites as pubmed, or articles in the magazine nature which I do believe as quite credible. The balance of negative vs. positive effects of legalisation is definately in the positive side by a long shot. I just think your list is very exhaustive and most likely many of the ailments you state do not have very factual proof that cannabis can "cure" them or alieviate the symptoms. Do what works best by all means, but I believe you must show a little skepticism in regards to all these benefits. In my opinion cannabis will alieviate symptoms, but will not help "cure" anything, it will stop your body from feeling the symptoms though.

I have always had a knack of walking into people's lives just before the "sh*t hits the fan". I could see what was about to happen and would tell them- usually they didn't listen (at least, not the first time  ). It got me down when I was young- telling folks about the brick walls that they are about to hit. I made the best of it. I am about 1 semester away from a BA in psychology. I work in Special Education.

Folks have the wrong idea about the term "Storm Crow". The storm crow is not the cause of the storm. The crow flies before the storm- getting it's little tail feathers out of there. The crow is smart enough to see what's coming. Along the way, the crow gives warnings of what is to come- even if it is unpleasant. You listen, or you don't. You take shelter, or you don't. Your choice.

I've had crows as "pets" and I admire them. Caw was my favorite. He would steal stuff, come when called (usually), and was an all around trip with a wicked sense of humor. We lived in an area where the crows would nest in the tall yew trees. Occasionally, a crow chick would be pushed from the nest by it's siblings and survive the fall. We would adopt them and let them stay with us until they decided to be adults and free. (Crow chicks love scrambled eggs!)

As for the avatar, a kid from the boards turned me on to it. I had no idea where it came from. It was beautiful, I loved it, so I used it. Thank you for showing me where it came from.

And I still believe that cannabis is for the healing of nations, and what are nations, but people?- Granny:hippy:

The more I learn about cannabis, the more I am amazed that I can be put in jail for using it, and I emphasize "USING". The only problem with having this information here is that it's like preaching to the chior. I have a feeling that sending the contents of one of these pages to my(?) congressperson would be a waste of paper, and a stamp to boot. The only thing that gets thier attention is if they think thier job is in jepordy. The only way we could pull that off is with numbers. The only way numbers do any good is if we all act. Registered VOTERS write ALL of your government officials from the mayor to the president. To do this you need to tell them who you are, name, address, phone #. Don't be afraid, I have been doing it for quite some time, and nobody has arrested me. If you realy care about the cause register to vote, AND VOTE WHEN THE TIME COMES.

I know that posting it here is "preaching to the choir", but my little compendium has also popped up in a medical college to be shown around to future doctors, random pages are in a laundromat back east, I just sent it to a pro-cannabis veteran's group, and it's in the hands of a few "crazy activists" to be spread around. If we keep spreading it, educating people one by one,-maybe that 70 to 80% of the public who support medical cannabis, will eventually grow to 100%. Then, we will either have a change in the heart and laws of our government, or change our government!

Yeah, if ONE person sends a copy in, well, in all probability, it won't even get to the politico it's aimed at. Some little flapper (read the original Gulliver's Travels) will toss it- the first time. But what if ten, or a hundred, came in? It gets a LOT harder to ignore! It might "slip through". ;)

:D Might be a nice party/project for some bored tokers to do some snowy evening- get stoned, put together some letters, get stoned-er, call friends, turn them on to the post and get them to send it in, too. And get them to call friends! Wouldn't be THAT hard to get 100 copies all coming in within a few days! Or everyone send it in to arrive April 20th. You don't have to be out there "singin' songs and carrying signs" to be an activist. A stamp is 41 cents.

How about everyone doing ONE "Activist act" a month? There are over 20,000 ACTIVE members at C.com. So get ACTIVE! Make it a late New Year's resolution- to make up for the one(s) you have already broken! - Granny:hippy:

Marijuana Ingredient May Prevent Mad Cow Disease

Sunday, September 16 2007 @ 11:05 AM EDT
Edited by: Michael Hess

Cannabidiol May be Effective in Preventing Bovine Spongiforme Enzephalopathy (Mad Cow Disease)

BBSNews 2007-09-16 ?? (IACM) According to basic research of scientists of the National Centre for Scientific Research in Valbonne, France, cannabidiol (CBD) may prevent the development of prion diseases, the most known being BSE (bovine spongiforme enzephalopathy), which is often called mad cow disease. It is believed that the BSE may be transmitted to human beings. In humans, it is known as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

Huge Dairy Cow under blue sky.

The infectious agent in prion diseases is believed to be a specific type of misfolded protein called prion. Misfolded prion proteins carry the disease between individuals and cause deterioration of the brain. The French researchers reported that the non- psychoactive cannabis constituent CBD inhibited the accumulation of prion proteins in both mouse and sheep prion- infected cells, whereas other cannabinoids were either weak or not effective. Moreover, after infection with mouse scrapie, a prion disease, CBD limited accumulation of the prion protein in the brain and significantly increased the survival time of infected mice. CBD inhibited the nerve damaging effects of prions in a concentration-dependent manner. Researchers noted that CBD may be a promising agent for the treatment of prion diseases.

(Source: Dirikoc S, Priola SA, Marella M, Zsuerger N, Chabry J. Nonpsychoactive cannabidiol prevents prion accumulation and protects neurons against prion toxicity. J Neurosci 2007;27(36):9537-44.)

It??s an exciting development, to the best of our knowledge this is among the first substances discovered that has the potential to alter the invariably fatal course of bovine spongiforme enzephalopathy.

My little brother suffers from nervous ticks and minor turrets from what i believe leads back to my parents divorce. Give your brother the print outs. Then take him either here or to treatingyourself.com (a nice little medical site). My posts are there, too. Tell him all he needs to do is just read the titles- he'll start calling up articles all by himself long before he finishes the first post.

And as a child of divorce (a real nasty one), I want him (and you) to know this.... The trick is to remember what caused the hurt (I know I can never forget), and NEVER do that to anyone else. No one mentions the fact that MMJ controls nausea and vomiting better and safer than any other drug we have. I surf waves of nausea from Diabetic Neuropathic Gastro Paresis, which is much worse than nausea related from chemo. I live in a non MMJ state rather than the land of the free. Yet I have found that Orange Kush is most effective in controlling nausea and vomiting. Yet at $370 an oz I can't afford daily doses. Since MMJ is illegal my Dr has me on 5 mg Marinol and I top that off with good quality schwag. Not as good as real MMJ like the Orange Kush but it's more economical. Oh well, until I move to the free part of America I'm stuck with this. The USA will break up into states that allow MMJ and states that don't, if Barney Franks bill doesn't pass. Gives a whole new meaning to "Civil War." Peace...:smokin:

Marinol isn't ideal, but it's better than nothing. Does anyone know if it could be vaporized? Perhaps put the sesame/thc oil on a bit of cotton cloth? Just a thought. Look into vaporizing- way better for your health! I have a Vapor Brothers and love it.

Be sure to give your doctor the link to this post either here, or at treating yourself .com (all one word), or international cannagraphic (in case you don't want to risk being I"D"ed) It's stickied in the medical section of both sites.

Hope you make it to a sane state or yours comes to its senses soon! With the economy the way it is going, folks are having to choose between food, medication, gas, and rent. If they grew cannabis, they could possibly cut down on their expensive meds! The first two real MMJ users I knew both made exactly the same comment "I can cut my meds in half when I have pot!"

Hello all, my name is strawberry.cough, you can call me berry. I am 48 year old female from northern new england, somewhere between kittery and calais. In 1994 I was diagnosed with angranular sarcoma of the left nostril. I had surgery, chemo and radiation, and left it in the dust...or so I thought. About a month ago I notices that I was having a harder time moving air through that side of my nose, and a little trip to the doc confirmed what I thought, the sarcoma had returned and this time it is up in the sinus too.

I had surgery this morning, and I am at the airport waiting to get the first part of the flight back home. I have had to have the docs write a letter to get me on the flight. Boy have things changed a lot since 9/11. I have black eyes and a nasal tampon in, and well even I would probably scream if I looked in the mirror. I am picky and like the bulk head seats because I have long legs and hate folks rocking there seats back into me, but...I guess I will be ummm "helped" to board and my seat will be way in the back. guess we must not scare the other passangers.

I guess I am lucky, it wasn't as invasive as first thought, so I still have the majority of my septum. The bonus is it hasn't spread, still confined to just my left side. I am also a moose, so for me to just get up and walk out of the hospital after surgery is no big deal.

What is a big deal is the chemo and the radiation. I am a puker big time. I am suppose to go to my local hospital when I get back home so the oncologist can have a look at me. I have the surgeons radiologists, and pathologists reports safely with me so she will be well informed. I already started the chemo on monday, so I guess I will find out what is what fairly quickly. There may be a chance I will escape the radiation, and boy oh boy that would make my day.

Well oddly enough I have a head ache, so I will call this good. This will be the first time I have tried herbal chemo to ease the chemical chemo vomiting.

Ummm this looks good. If I get out of the radiation they will let me infuse the chemo myself at home, and umm umm ummm do I like panny cakes when my tummy is upset.

Glad to find the sight, last time was helliacious, this time I want to be a little more comfy and not so pukey.

Wow I have to applaud your research and findings, I was starting on something like this with my father, but it seems you have pretty much done it for us. I am going to be showing many many people these things. we need everyone to see the proof, and open their eyes to marijuana. if every smoker get one non smoker to see what it can do, we will be one step closer to making it legal and most importantly legal for medical use.
