Hey guys. Just wondering if smoking and philosophy will produce a A+ on my tests and shit. I know that Weed "expands your mind", but was thinking that this' will be an actuall way that I can get some serious (lol) use out of Toking up.

You're asking me? I've never gotten an A+ in my life, with or without weed. I was a disruptive element in the classroom.

its definatly a good time in class, in high school and in college, but in my first semester at college i took a philosophy class and that shit was intense, the only problem i had was trying to remember shit when i reviewed for tests. Its different for everyone, i'de give it a shot

I shall say this, i believe that cannabis is not a detterent in one's ability to philosophize.

Most of the philosophical stuff I come up with when I'm high is absolutely ridiculous when I'm sober. I've never taken a test high though, so I can't speak as to the results.

I can say without a doubt, that getting high before a philosophy class, is a bad idea. Your teacher is not retarded, he/she knows you are high, and worse yet you will say some pretty damn retarded stuff that seems brilliant in your own head.

High philosophy is great when you are talking about just talking philosophy amoungst friends, but there is a stark difference between a philosophical discussion, and taking exams on philosophical principles/people/events/etc.

I didnt start smoking until the second half of my freshman year in college, and as a philosophy major, and my philosophy teacher flat out came up to me and had a talk because she noticed the difference. Thats not to say everyone will be the same as me...

But I was a solid B student, who could have gotten an A but just didnt care enough. I was one of the most vocal students in my classes, and regularly had after class chats with my teacher, just about whatever she had talked about that day. The fact that she noticed the difference in my thought process, and my participation, said alot to me back then, and was enough for me to stop smoking before class, because at the time I, like you, thought it would be a great idea and only help.

Most philosophy tests, outside of graduate level courses, are going to be essay and multiple choice kinds of things, based on the things you have learned during your time in class. Which means you need to either have really learned what was being taught in class, or have a damn good ability to memorize facts... pot doesnt really help much with the memorizing, although I suppose it would allow you the ability to get more into the class learning wise if it caught your interest.

As always, YMMV, and you will never really know unless you try, but from personal experience in the exact situation you are talking about, I wouldnt recommend it. Get high after class, get high any other time, but I just dont see it as a good idea to be high during class.

My mate spliffed up before all of our final physics exams, he got a first and I ended up with a Bishop Dessie :(

I'd reccomend it for science and philosophy, it expands your mind and is an endless source of revelation, this is important for study. It's down to whether you yourself think you can handle both at the same time though, if you feel you can't then better not to.

i took a psychology class last year in high school and we talked a lot about psychological effects of weed, and i'm pretty sure my teacher used to be a bit of a stoner, but he said that if you study in the same environment that you take the test in you should be good. so if you study high, take your test high. haha...studying high, yah right

Marijuana expands your mind so why not give it a try. ;)

I have meditated and philosophed while high, and I write and think nice stuff. However, that has always been kind of my personality, even sober... So I guess it depends on your actual personality

I adivise people to read up on Sartre's Existentialist philosophy, aswell as Singer's preference Utilitarianism. Fascinating stuff :stoned:

All I ever got from studying philosophy was a distinct sense of exactly how meaningless life really is. I wish I could forget it. :(

Might I inquire what specifically you were reading/learning about in philosophy?

i blazed at school just about everyday and i am an "a" student. pot does not make you smarter. however it can help you concentrate, usually cause your to sketched to laugh about all the dumb shit you usually laugh about. also it makes science particularly interesting.
