Hey everyone, my name's Grant and I've been smoking for about 3 years... God that sounds like the first sentence of an AA introduction. Unfortunately I do kinda feel like that at the moment. Sorry this is so long, thought I should include the whole story.

I've been having these weird chest pains recently, which I'm pretty much certain now is my heart. I really don't know how large an influence smoking pot has on this, but I know that there's definitely some correlation.

It started off that I'd get this very very slight pain in my chest, not so much pain but just discomfort, or sensitivity around the left side of my chest, it was fairly intermittent so I didn't think too much of it (I think this was some time late last year) It seemed to be triggered by a range of things; eating fatty foods, drinking, smoking but as it was very slight I didn't really think much of it.

Anyway this year I had a new flatmate who also smoked and my once or twice a week habit stepped up to every day. Incidentally smoking with him was a shitload of fun, we'd get up to all breeds of mischief. Towards the end of the four months he was with us the chest pain thing became really annoying, sitting, lying or staying still felt uncomfortable. Which made me move around a lot where I didn't notice my fast beating heart and sore chest as much. So it made getting stoned less fun but still fun. Then about a month ago I had a massive bong hit with a butane lighter and just had a shit shit stone. My heart was beating fast and REALLY HARD, kinda felt like i was going to explode or perhaps more realistically have a heart attack. Sitting and lying felt uncomfortable as usual, but this time even moving around didn't mask the feeling. I had to wait a couple of hours just standing there shivering in my room for the stone to pass before i felt comfortable lying down and going to bed.

So that sucked. I didn't smoke weed for a while after that, and felt a bit better, although noticed feeling short of breath sometimes, and still noticing my heart occasionally especially lying down. I did get to a point however where I thought I'd try smoking again. That was the weekend just gone. Got stoned and drunk both Friday and Saturday night. It wasn't too bad, perhaps because both nights I was drinking as well which tends to decrease my sensitivity to most everything... Through Sunday I was getting the whole uncomfortable chest thing, progressively through the day it got worse, by the time i got home I actually did think I might have a heart attack. I didn't really want to bed for fear of exploding in my sleep. So I didn't. The really scary part about this for me is the fact that I'm sober and it hurts..Not the kind of pinch hurt, a bit like how your arm feels after someone's punched it.. it's uncomfortable. I'm going to see a doctor today before I get some sleep.

So yea that's my story. I can't really see myself coming back to weed for a while if ever after this which really depresses me. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this...? Thanks for reading. I'd really appreciate any thoughts, advice, similar experience etc.

I've had minor irritation in the lung, sort of a sharp discomfort. And it seems to be a fairly common complaint in the health forum. I originally thought it was my heart since it exists in my family, but after deliberately relaxing and dismissing it as paranoia and working out and eating healthy, I don't get it anymore.

IT could be a simple irritation in the pleural lining of the lung, which is exacerbated by stress and paranoia when stoned. Or it could be anxiety, but definitely get a doctor's opinion.
