I myself just got done watching a documentary about the collider that I got off a torrent site. The documentary is called BBC - Horizon - The Six Billion Dollar Experiment.

This machine was going to be up and running by November but due to an equipment failures that require reenforcement before it's started up, now in 2008.

Large Hadron Collider - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Hadron_Collider)

It's a particle smasher that sends particles crashing into eachother and records the results. This test is used to help look for various particles, this Collider being the largest ever is carrying the hopes of scientists that it will reveal the mysterious particle that's involved with the very creation of matter, what gives matter mass in the first place. Been dubbed in many circles the "God Particle"

There is some theoretical worries about the machine. Being on such a scale that we as humans have ever experimented with, there are worries that the machine could create "micro black holes" and other such dangers. Though scientists in favor of the machine believe that any micro black holes created will almost immediately die out.

Very, very interesting to say the least. If you are interested download the torrent.

i'm very excited to think of the discoveries we'll make with this machine not to mention the very small possibility of destroying earth :). maybe they'll find the higgs boson aka the "god particle".

haha yeah I hope we know enough of these particles to produce em on the planet
