Hemp or Cannabis

I just have a question about distinguishing between hemp and cannabis. I found a plant in a public flower bed while working and dug it up and transplanted it. I figured immediately that it was marijuana but now i am having second thoughts it is probably three and a half feet tall and is already budding but it is a single stalk there are no other branches shooting off of it. the Bud(s) that are developing look very nice and appear to be developing trichomes. I was wondering if what i have is hemp or marijuana. Does hemp produce trichomes without thc in them or what? anyone with any info would be much appreciated.

Difficult.... Hemp seed could have been dropped by a bird, hemp seeds are in alot of bird food. Then again some joker might have thought it would be funny to plant one of they're seeds in a public place which means it could be good.

Yes they do. It's not the trichome amount that matters, it's what's inside of them.

I would let the plant finish, and smoke it, and see if you get high. That's how you can tell. It's definitely a sativa though, so it could very well be hemp. Do you have a picture of it, from the side-view, of it recently?

I grew up in an area of the country (central Illinois), that had wild hemp growing along lots of railroad tracks (one year, the town kids set up a 12-footer in the 'town square', and put Christmas ornaments on it, :D) ... anyway, as memory serves me, it didn't look any different than most sativas, tall and lanky ... but, smoking a pound of it wouldn't get a fly high ... in your situation, I would guess someone planted MJ there as a prank ... :smokin:

Looks kinda hempy to me. You would think if it was MJ it would branch alil bit, but maybe not.

Grow it out, hell what do you have to lose?

I heard somewhere that smoking hemp won't get you high and just boosts your tolerance to marijuana.
