I think its a series of stories written either to controll, or for people to base their life off of. I dont think there is a god behind it, and it is not divine at all. Its a story book.

Good question! I just checked it out and it seems the holy spirit is a spiritual entity that lives in all of us. This entity gives us a sense of faith and desire to follow god. It acts as a "councilor" for the conscience, guiding your actions by instilling a sense of morality congruent with God's wishes.

The holy ghost is the manifestation of the christian faith residing in you. You must accept the holy ghost into you to have the holy ghost. It isn't in everyone. The only people who can speak in tongues is said to be those with the holy ghost in them. Some believe the holy ghost is what leads us to heaven when we die.

Thanks. While I disagree with the Bible, the Bible is not a sentient being (as far as i know). How can a Bible do any harm? Bible's don't kill people, People kill people.

Just like guns, the Bible can't do anything on it's own. But apply it in the wrong way and bad shit happens.

Anyway, here's why the Bible and most other religions are most likely bullshit (except The Cannabis Grow Bible - there is irrefutable evidence that cannabis does exist)

Now, I am going to see what I can do about changing this thread title. It is COMPLETELY disrespectful, whether you believe the Bible to be truth, instructions, stories, or a complete fabrication. That was a REALLY inappropriate thread title.

true, but on something like this, you'd think if it were true it would be able to be proven true without a shadow of a doubt....

atleast to me if you have to question something of this magnitude, it's just more fuel to disbelieve it.

The Bible holds the teachings of the ages.......learn it, live it and be one with Mother Nature.

No, the bible contains select teachings from a very select crowd actually. Ever heard of the Council of Nicea? While I like your pantheistic take on the bible, it doesn't really correlate well with established gospel. 'Subjugating the land, conqueroring the animals..' and all that...
And honestly, the concept of female spirituality is a more modern trend with christians rather than foundations of whatever bible they ascribe to.

Ephesians 5:22-24
"Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything."

Deuteronomy 22:20-1

"If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girlā??s virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her fatherā??s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her fatherā??s house."

Yeah, lot of respect and reverence for the fairer sex back then :(

I think there is a 'Great Mother' of sorts, maybe something akin to Carlin's The Great Electron, but whatever it is it cares nothing for the temporal politics and sensitives of mankind. When we insist on viewing everything through an anthropomorphic lense, we only pander to our own egos and sense of self-importance while depriving ourselves of real knowledge.

The cosmos cares nothing for our collective need to place easy-to-comprehend answers to every aspect of life. Apart from attempting to inspire proactive social behavior, religious texts like the bible are just methods to reassure people that everything's gonna be alright (provided you conduct yourself in an endorsed fashion).

The bible is a rich literary tradition worthy of study, and having said that it needs to stay the hell out of our classrooms and government offices. There's already a great repository for that subject - they call it church! ;)

Now that the title has been changed to something I actually understand, here's my take on it from a non-interested perspective (Although I'm a Christian so actually I think it's true.. but bear with me). Imagine there is a book about a man's life, set in 1820s New York. The adventures and scrapes he gets into demonstrate certain moral, legal, and philosophical principles. Almost 100% of the events depicted are possible in the context of a man living in 1820s New York (Yeah, I know what some are thinking. But the stuff in the Bible is possible in the context of an omnipotent being). Some old people say their grampa knew the guy personally, and when the book was written in 1856 some newspaper articles have quotes from people claiming to know the guy from the book.
However, no one has ever found any living descendants, or dug up his grave or found any papers or effects that actually belonged to him. Now ask: Is the book a biography or a novel? Well, it's really a very moot point to everyone except the ones who believe that he WAS a real guy and their grampa REALLY DID know the guy. It may give them a sense of comfort to believe their grampa wasn't just yanking their chain all that time. And if the guy killed someone for whistling an irritating tune, and the book says that everyone who whistles irritating tunes should be killed, and someone reading it kills someone else after reading that, it's not the fault of believing it was a true book.

You have a body soul and spirit. You are one. Father/Son/Holy Ghost are ONE person.

"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."

Did you read the scripture I shared with the comment? Jesus is claiming to be present when people that believe in his name gather together. How can jesus the "son" be present if he's not physically there with the believers that are gathered?
Jesus is claiming that he is present with them in Spirit cause he is the Holy Spirit.

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost".....

"I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you."

I mean what if someone were to ramble on nowadays and say they were the son of god.....how many people would believe them? It was alot more believable back in 20AD, so sure he gained a bunch of followers who then taught it to their kids, and so on, and so on until u get the plague we have today.

The message I was bringing across was that people in biblical times didn't have the same understanding of the world that we have today. Just like we understand thing like the world revolves around the sun and not the other way around, or that the world is round and not flat. That there are other planets out there and ours is not the center of the universe. People back then needed to believe in something to "explain" existence, and unfortunately the same is true today. Can't we just exist for no reason. How come there has to be a fucking reason for everything.

I think some of the stories in the Bible are certainly derived from events that did happen. However, not the mystical religiousy God-related stuff. I think religion, in all its forms, is just a mental crutch some people need to avoid dealing with the concept that the lives we are given are all we ever get. Christianity is just one version of that crutch. Someday we'll grow up enough that people won't need that crutch anymore. I'm not holding my breath on that happening in my lifetime though.

Can't we just exist for no reason. How come there has to be a fucking reason for everything.

why do you think religion is still so popular? it plays to the conceit of man. without the concept of the magical man in the sky, we would have to realize that mankind is nothing but another animal. but if you believe that there is some cosmic entity looking over us and judging our every action, then the human race becomes much more important in the grand scheme of things.

most forms of religion and spirituality give us the illusion that we exist outside of the flesh. without the idea of a spiritual existence we would have to admit that at some point we will just cease to exist, no better than a cockroach under your heel. once we created gods to give our existence meaning, we became superior to all other life. with this "god given superiority" our rush for dominion over the rest of the planet seems almost justifiable. without it we are just another greedy little species, grubbing after an illusion of power.

The original title of this thread was, "Is the Bible bullshit".

We do not allow cusswords in ANY thread title; those are changed on a regualr basis- in ALL forums!!!

It's nothing having to do with the content of the thread, and last time I checked bullshit and fabricated do in fact imply the same thing, but one is more polite... IF you have a hard time expressing yourself without cursing, perhaps you should consider working on your writing skills.

I'm not even going to get into the problem with the title... offensive, for sure; by putting the question in those terms, you are BEGGING for the argument to get rude. And then I end up with a boxful of reported posts from people who are upset about that.

And we don't have all day to moderate this forum. There's a lot of other content on this website... I'd rather spend my time answering grow questions... really!!!

Because, it's the inverse of an already flawed argument! doodoo = oopoop spin that around and it's a turd either way! ;) Besides, I just busted a hump for a week to negate an accidental -rep I put on you.. :P ;) :stoned:I appreciate it, but I already told you that it wasn't necessary. I was just informing you so you didn't do it again by accident to anyone else, I think I went down by 2-3 points, nothing to worry about at all :) . But again, the effort is greatly appreciated.

i think the bible is a good idea but ppl put way to much faith in it and the churches are now way to powerful, they have special privlages like no taxes for ex and yet they are still a buissness i say if u like the bible dont take it word for word but as more metaphors learn from it not obey it, just be a nice person no one can argue with that
