Onthexbox.com - News (http://www.onthexbox.com/news1169.html)

In its earnings statement for the quarter, Microsoft said it shipped 700,000 Xbox 360 units during the period, compared to 1.8 million in the fiscal fourth quarter of 2006 -- a fall off of 61%.

oh and then there's this couple fo tidbits...

Microsoft introduced the Xbox 360 in November 2005. It has since shipped 11.6 million of the consoles. The company is doubtless looking forward to the holiday 2007 season and hoping that new game releases like Halo 3 revive the Xbox 360's flagging fortunes. Microsoft on Thursday said overall profits in the fourth quarter increased 7% to $3 billion, while revenue increased 13% to $13.4 billion.

Worldwide PS3 sales at 4.48 million - news - play™ (http://play.tm/story/12089)

Back to the present, however, and at the end of Q1 worldwide sales of the next-gen system stand at 4.48 million units.

Meh sales of any console are going to lessen as time goes on on top of that the 360 has probably one of the best holiday line ups of game releases in the history of gaming this year. I think many people are saving up/waiting until the holidays and I'm sure 360 is going to sell immensely well in a few months.

PS3 already lost when it had to make the price cut, just so they could get some consoles sold

If rumors of a $100 360 price cut across the board come true (which they should) PS3 will never catch up. Seriously if you can get a core 360 for $200 and a premium for $300 why bother with a PS3?

Everyone has ignored the fact the PS3 has been given a price drop... which is actually one of the earliest price drops for a system relative to the initial release...

I meant it as a bad thing for Sony, actually.

Any console that has had a price cut this early, despite the rise in sales, is still doing bad.

I'm very interested in these things, and from a neutral perspective, using the data provided here (NPD: US game sales up 22 percent in June - PlayStation 2 News at GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6175522.html)), this is what I came out to have Sony's profits be with/without the sale increase and the price cut.

Assuming that 98,500 (100k to round) units would have been sold this month, and that each unit originally was 600$ (500 w/ cut)....

Price Cut Only: $50,000,000
Sales Increase Only (135%): $81,000,000
Both: $67,500,000
Neither: $60,000,000

Well you can obviously just ignore the first two numbers. It looks like they will make 7,500,000 more using my numbers, amazing what $100 can do on a grand scale...

Granted through all of this, though, Sony is still losing money per console sold.

do you really want to talk about ignoring stuff?

cuz yal seem to ignore a 30-33% failure rate within 360....

that ain't happening with ps3...

Failure Rate: Xbox 360 High As 33% - Sony PS3 & Nintendo Wii Less Than 1% | ripten (http://www.ripten.com/?p=374)

Failure Rate: Xbox 360 High As 33% - Sony PS3 & Nintendo Wii Less Than 1%

i guess we're just gonna have to wait yet again.... when ps3 sales TOP 360 however... you can either choose to say fine i'm beat or i'll instantly ignore you... fair enough you say right now anything can happen, but after ps3 has been released a year later and surpassed 360 (which i honestly believe will happen) i've proved my point...

Wii strap breakage can kill your 3k TV, setting you back 12 Wii's.

Can't say anything for the PS3 though, aside from the fact that it needs more solid games.

the ps3 is going to blow the 360 out of the water once publishers and developers tap into it's potential. that's my opinion
I'll wait to buy one cause it's just too much money to put down for a gaming console.
microsoft will have to make an upgrade or a new system to compare with ps3's raw power. again, this is just my opinion.

EA: Games Use 20 Percent of PS3's Power - Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/gaming/ps3/ea-games-use-20-percent-of-ps3s-power-221137.php)

can't find the site i read about 360... i know for a fact i remember reading it was using somewhere between 50%-90% of it's power

oh i've also tried to find a non-biased breakdown of both systems... but that's pretty much non-existant.... and i've been looking for one for a while now... since before i even had my ps3...

but one site will say one thing, then another will say something diffrent, i can't just simply find a flat out, honest, non biased report...

It's catching up fast, we'll see who prevails in the end, we can only speculate for now and enjoy the games :D

Hmm I love the sarcastic and cynical tone there pal.

Unless 360 has something up it's sleeve, what else can they do?
They have a year old system which, presently, puts out the same graphics as a brand-new system with brand-new technology......
PS3 disks can even hold more data cause of Blu-Ray. So that means their games can be bigger, better and longer.
it's just a matter of time before everything goes HD and IF and when that happends Blu-ray will have a head start cause their disks hold more data.
and you think companies arent trying their hardest with that machine?
the gaming industry is not just going to stop, it's going to evolve...and i see it evolving on the PS3..
And I don't think microsoft isn't testing the ps3 as well...it's a war.. they have intelligence and counter-intelligence.
like ps3 did, i think microsoft is waiting for the right time to come out with their "upgrade".

but look, what do i know?.. i'm just the joe shmoe waiting for the chance to buy one.

PS3 disks can even hold more data cause of Blu-Ray. So that means their games can be bigger, better and longer.

-It doesn't cost much to have multiple disc so bigger and longer is not really true if it's needed they will just go multiple discs or download content.
-Just because PS3 discs can hold more data doesn't mean its games are "better"
-PS3 has some great specs in certain areas, but then they are bottlenecked in other areas. Besides the advantages of space on the disc (which is counter balanced by the SLOW disc reading speed) you aren't going to see much difference EVER between PS3 and 360 games. There is nothing on the PS3 as of yet that the 360 couldn't handle and I doubt there will ever be.
-In fact the best currently released game out there is Gears of War for 360 (not PS3)
-I and milions of others are still perfectly happy with DVD9 as standard media format for movies and games. Until HDTVs and such become really cheap I see it staying that way.

perhaps sles have increased but the 360 has ps3 and wii beat due due to its incredible 3rd party support mixed with an incredible 1st party lineup

Haze is going to kill that game, just for the record :p

but it'll be on both systems.

I read Haze was a PS3 exclusive.

http://www.gamestop.com/search.asp?Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&Ntt=haze&N=0

nope... it actually comes out on 360 a couple months earlier then ps3 or pc.

and like I have said in the past as soon as PS3 gets in gear about 1-2 years after release PS will be back on top. I got all platforms but PS is the only one worth playing as far as online and good games go. their are a few like 2 comp. games that are sick but those games will be on PS3 eventuly like a 1 or so

actually i'm not so sure about that anymore.... now it seems it is exclusive... it was slated for 360... but seems like now ubisoft is pulling it from 360? and pc as well...

The 360 has been out for quite a while now, of course sales aren't going to be at the top anymore. I don't know what you're trying to prove? Everyone already knows that the ps3 is going to catch up to the 360.
