Okay so it's 12:47 in the middle of the night and I have to be at the oral surgeon's office at 9:00 in the morning to have my impacted wisdom teeth extracted. Anyway I'm high as hell right now smoked about 2.5gs and finished approximated 11:45. I'm now realizing that I have to go under anaesthesia and I am really scared the weed and high will affect this badly?! What's gonna happen??

Maybe FakeBoobsRule can come reassure you if he sees this. I may tweak your title to pique his interest. This is quite literally the very medical alley he walks.

I suspect you're going to have conscious sedation, IV Valium or something like it. Tell your doctor what and how much you smoked. Be honest. He can crank back the benzodiazapine if he needs to and crank up the O2. And if he feels more comfortable doing so, he can reschedule you, which you want him to make a fully informed choice on, thus the advice about complete candor. I rather doubt that'll happen.

Tell me you've followed the non-per-os (nothing by mouth) instructions and haven't eaten a big meal or drunk a lot of after-midnight fluid, at least.

i wouldnt tell them that you smoke, my dad told a doctor he smoked many years ago, he has eplilesy(he has seizures when he doesnt take his medicine) and he was a truck driver so oviously you can drive smei when your havign seizures so he applied for disability and they found out that he smoked so theyd dint give it to him, its yuor choice whether you want to tell them or not, but just keep in mind it could come back to bite you in the ass

even when i went for surgery i still drank stuff... (couldn't not do it)

you should be fine... as far as i know, drinknig/eating would be more dangerous then smoking.. as the reason for not doing such a thing is cuz you can choke on your own puke (i'm pretty sure atleast....)

yeah the pre-op instructions said not to eat 8 hours before the appointment and mine is at 9:00. I had pizza around 8:30 and since then a nutri grain bar and a can of coke around 12:50 because 1:00 would be the 8 hour cut off..

Anyway I don't think tellin my doctor is one of my choices cause then my mom would know and I can't have that again. I just wanted a little reassurement that it wouldn't like kill me or somethin crazy cause I'm gonna die either way if I don't go through with it.. so basically how bad am I lookin at given the situation?

When I had my port surgery I had smoked the day before and I was fine....my heart fluttered but that had nothing to do with the pot. I know your high now tho so it prob doesnt help.

Skwirl, tell the doctor. Just make sure you tell him in confidence. He needs to know that. No one can give you the reassurance you need but him. Find a way to get him away from your mom and just fill him in. I'm not about to promise you you're going to be fine, and no one else ought to do that, either. The person administering anesthesia needs to be informed.

Skwirl, my friend, if you can't man up and be honest about that, then you are clearly not old enough to be using weed yet. I wish you the best of luck.

um yeah it really doesn't have anything to do with that and while I know you're pretty well respected here I think what you said about me not old enough is irresponsible

Phatty Lumpkins THANK YOU! All I wanted to hear was that someone out there had done the same thing and lived to tell about it lol. You can imagine me freakin out before I even decided to post I hit my whole phonebook up tryin to find a friend who had done the same. While most reassured me and said it didn't matter none had actually done it like you. Thank You.

Birdgirl thank you as well although I won't be takin your advice I appreciate your concern. It is 8:27 so now I'm gonna get in the shower and get this over with. I'll post back as soon as I can. Thanks all and continue discussing this cause it turned out to be a pretty interesting, however, maybe inconclusive topic.

I did it 25 years ago when I had my upper teeth removed(Rotten roots). It had no effect on the procedure but it was a waste of time for pain control prior to surgery.Man it just made my teeth god damn throb with pain. The morphine after surgery sure felt good though.

Haha yeah so it's like 1:45 in the afternoon and I made it through the surgery. The anesthesia knocked me right out just as soon as it entered my bloodstream. Glad I got high last night cause I almost decided not to in lieu of the surgery but yeah now I'm high as hell on some hydrocodone which if I understand correctly is a derivative of heroin. Gonna go put on some nirvana and 'nod' out haha. Thanks all! Stay high.

Well, they are both opiates. They are markedly different though. Hydrocodone might make you lightheaded and give you a buzz in addition to the pain relief but it is quite different from heroin.

He didn't lie anyway he just left out a couple facts.lol

The risks of using pot and going under anesthesia are pretty minimal anyway. There is a higly paid anesthesiologists in the room that has only one job to do and that is to monitor all your vital statistics and make sure you are getting the right dosage.
