Thought I might share this in case someone thinks it's a good idea. It seems to be to me. Due to summer temps going through the roof (literally), I had to downsize to a 250W HPS. That seems much too little for 8 plants, so I trained each main cola directly under the lamp, thusly. I just thought of it, but it looks great. All the other branches are less obstructed by the main stem too:
