Hey,
Ran across this story and thought it would be of interest to peeps on here. Criminals of any type can have their online activities tracked and stored by the feds.
"FBI agents trying to track the source of e-mailed bomb threats against a Washington high school last month sent the suspect a secret surveillance program designed to surreptitiously monitor him and report back to a government server, according to an FBI affidavit obtained by Wired News.
The court filing offers the first public glimpse into the bureau's long-suspected spyware capability, in which the FBI adopts techniques more common to online criminals."

The tech to do this has been around for decades. Carnivore and Echelon are antiquated versions of it. Servers sitting somewhere in Virginia searching for keywords in communications. With digital communications it's as easy as scanning data for a specific sequence of 1's and 0's. Voice, email, forum postings... They tap the trunk lines and and have access to everything. More reading on the subject:
NSA call database - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSA_call_database)
Torpark, and now Xerobank have been available for a while and offer a good amount of obscurity. You can read more about the project here:
XeroBank Browser - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torpark)
And to answer your question. It can be used to ID any criminal e.g. peeps participating on here if growing is outlawed in your country/state.
Not selling anything either, knowledge should be shared not only available to those who can afford it :p.

if I was busted because they spied on me for growing, I'd put up one hell of a 4th amendment battle in court, that's for sure...

OK, cool!
My next Q would be how effective are the 'disclaimers' that everyone uses?
(not to jack the thread)

great, we either all knew that or sort of expected it. keep everyone in check by fear if nothing else. what? who cares if they can do it?(i do) they cant do it legally. the kid admitted to it, whether he was caught or not right? what do you think terrorism is? i think ill google it, lol!

Well, bit of advice. Their are helicopters that can detect super hot lights inside houses by flying over them. That's how they find where the growers are... True story.

The disclaimers are BS.
If they think you are worth investigating, the disclaimer isn't going to protect you.
And I've seen disclaimers attached to grows that are like, a plant in a computer box, that the FBI is not exactly going to waste time on.
You generally need to attract LOCAL attention to be in danger. If your grow is big enough to attract attention just by posting pics on the web, you should not be posting them.
Use your brain here. If you have say a couple hundred plants, you probably DON'T want to post pics that show all of them at once. Dig?

the United States' Supreme Court ruled (a few years ago) that LEO can't use fly-over heat detection and infra-red surveillance, etc... they stopped doing that, almost before they got started (one simple reason: the cost $$$$) ... and, 'disclaimers' are a waste of time, absolutely NO legal loophole there ... :smokin:

I wanted to warn all you on this site that post links to there myspace page. ITS DANGEROUS!!!. Dont do it!!! Cops use myspace to bust drug users, growers, suppliers, and kids that talk about small crimes they have committed. I have seen that some of you have links to myspace. Think about it. It shows here, pics of your grow, then links to myspace that tells the judge where your growing it. Then with the added pics of your face here, and all over myspace, the judge can and WILL issue a warrant to enter your home for growing. And if thats not enough, your putting your friends on your friends list in danger. They could be brought up on charges of marijuana conspiracy if convicted of helping you in any way. Take you myspace links off NOW!!! For example, rebgirl (not trying to pick on you) If i was a cop, I could go through your network of friends and slowly become friends with some of them, eventually arrange meetings to hang out, chill, the norm. After gathering enough evidence, on them and you, I could bring them in and get confessions based on threats of jail time and aiding a criminal. This is the tactics the cops use to get the warrants they need and the info they need to do it. DOnt be stupid, protect your freedom at all cost. Freedom is really free at all. laterz..

sounds like you may do that anyway just to be a creep??
who cares...if the cops feel that I'm enough of a threat to anyone whatsoever...let them do something to me, otherwise they need to pay no mind to me and what I do in my own house.

Im not a creep, Im smart. This is how they get you if your stupid. If you are one of those, lets make war on the government types, then sure go ahead and not give a shit about my warning. But for those who are smart enough to look up what marijuana conspiracy is, then you know now that its something that can get you and your friends in jail for a 10 yr sentence. Go a head and look up "pot busts" and marijuana conspiracy and see what comes up. Tons of people have been busted by using myspace, and various other non-pot related forums and web sites. They go through your profiles, your friends profiles, and gather info. Once a cop has enough info he can then take it to the judge and get a warrant for search and entry to your home, and your friends homes. Do you really want to go to jail or get busted just to make a statement that your not going to let the government take away YOUR rights. I research any thing im going to be doing before i do it. And growing is something ive been doing for a long time now. Staying safe is important to some of us, and my family cannot afford me going to jail because I am either careless of what im doing, or because i just flat out am to stubborn to take precautionary measures. Again, dont be stupid enough to dry your laundry out where every one can see it, if you now what i mean. My exaple of going through some one profile was just to show you how easy it is for a regular person, if I was a cop and had more power it would be that much easier. Be smart my friends, knowledge is power.
