just tell me what you think you'd do.... think of yourself as either my mom (who this is really about) or a really good friend (same equivelant more or less)
first i did spend alot of my settlement on a car... we've done very responsibile things with the money, but of course we 'wasted' some on random BS....
anyways, it came about how much i payed for my dog (600) and she started freaking out on me.... for literally 30 minutes she was bitching at me about how i spent my money... i was actually getting to a point to where iw as about to tell her to stfu.... (trust me, i'm not gonna go into details but she has no room to talk about 'wasting money')
anyways... what would you have done if your son or best friend told you he spent 600 dollars on a dog (keeping in mind he'd just gotten over 6k, and spent alot of it 'responsibiliy') would you have freaked out for half an hour... would have said i could of spent it on better things and left it alone, or would you have not said anything or not even cared?
i actualy do want honest answers tho... don't 'spare' the honesty cuz you may think we're cool or w/e <.< that won't be affected... i just want to know if my mom over reacted or not (she actualy hit my wife so my wife would hit me....)

I don't know what's the nature of your settlement and I don't know how old you are, but how you choose to spend money is between your wife and yourself.

i'm 22, the settlement was psychological damage the lawyers got from my wife getting hit by a car (she got money too btw o.0 which was totally unexpected)
i'm just curious, cuz i'm not exagerating.... the only thing otu of my mom's mouth was 'i was so proud yal spent yals money in a respnosible manner and got a car... but <myname> a 600 FUCKING DOLLAR DOG?! I FEEL LIKE SLAPPING THE SHIT OUT OF YOU....' 3 seconds go by... '600 DOLLARS FOR A DOG?!'...
i'm sure you can fill in the rest of the half hour as it just went like that...

personally, i think it's a waste to spend that much on a dog, unless it was to save a dog from being put to sleep or something like that, but hey, if you've got the money for that kindof stuff, go for it

can you really afford the sort of luxury that will keep on costing you for years to come. though i know little of your financial situation, i would question the necessity of spending a tenth of your windfall on a dog when there are so many pups in need of homes at your local pound.
of course, i really have no room to talk. i once spent the same amount on a snake and lost my job a few months later.

i spent that much cuz i couldn't find a dog anywhere that fit my needs/wants except at the pet store where they're all registered, which of course upped the price greatly....
dellusion we're certainly not so broke we can't afford to raise him... i haven't put us in any jeapordy.... and if any dog was to eat us outta home it certainly won't be him.. he's only a chiuahuah.... his food expenses are going to be about as cheap as any breed of dog out there...
btw i have no problem adopting dogs from the pound, my last dog that i loved more than anything came from there.... he was a chow/doberman mix... but i wanted a puppy, and i HAD to get something really small... we don't have a fenced yard so it had to live in the house, mostly my room... my options were tight...

Yup, sounds like my mom. She obviously wanted you to be her lap dog and is upset you have a mind of your own.

lol funny you should say that... i go over there and take my son now that we have a car... and she basicly begs and grovels for me and my wife to stay the night there... and then when we say no...starts playing the pity game with her 3 year old son!
"tell them they're mean!" "tell them they don't love us!" etc etc... this carries on for 10 minutes...

When I got a settlement, I spent it on a guitar and a car. At least you bought a dog. Your mother should be happy for you, and she probably is, deep down.

I haven't read any answers, but from the Slip I've seen from this site, I think that dog is the best thing that you've ever invested in. I think that dog is the best thing for you.

well.. he has made me quite happy ^^ he's so cute... and i love him so much...
=/ i dunno i just had to ask to make sure this isn't somewhere where my mom is right and holds merit... she's never happy with ANYTHING i do... shit i used to go over there and clean her house while she worked (something neithe brother would ever think of doing) but she still takes out everything on me...
i guess i was/am just looking for people to back me that it's not AS BAD as she's made it out to be.... i mean she acted like she literally wanted to beat me senseless cuz i did it...

i would kinda think it was a wierd choice because to me a dog is a dog, yea theres some sweet dogs that i would prob spend more on than another but i dunno it just seems like a large amount for a pet.
but i would prom make a decision like that in my life so, so i really wouldnt tell you your stupid or even freak out, its not that big of a deal its just money

well to me, he was worth every cent... and he makes me happy... since i have depression problems you'd think that'd be enough for her.... ~sigh~ i dunno...
she also went off on my wife for like 10 minutes for a tattoo she got... (the dragon one)

No offense to your mom, but it sounds like she has held on too long. My mom was the same way, always complaing about my decisions because, "She didnt want me to end up like her." And, yeah, I understand, but you just gotta let go. Let your kids make their on decisions, let em fuck up, and when they do, sit down and have a real conversation.
Trust me, I've gone through a very similar thing. But, I learned a little saying, thats helped me through life. My wrestling coach told me this when i was like 9 or 10. "When someone starts to piss you off, just let it go in one ear and out the other."
EDIT: Btw, long hair, or short hair. My grandma had 3 long hair when I was a kid. Grimmie, Mia, and Katie, damn lil piss machines.

it isn't her business what you spend YOUR money on, nor is it anyone's business other than you and your wife. Well, besides whoever you bought the dog from, because it's business to him. Anyway, I'd tell her to chill out and if that doesn't work, try bitching about something she's spent money on that you think is stupid. She'll see where you're going and how much of a bitch she's being.
it isn't anyone else's business what you spend money on unless it directly affects them and that's all there is to it!

when you recieve a large sum of cash you allways waste a little, but buying a dog for $600 sounds like a good investment, if the dog is a bitch you should let it have at least one litter, (this is recommended for all bitches)this will then put you in profit, if it's a dog use as a stud.

he's a boy.. and if the chance comes around i'm definately gonna breed him... he is registered afteall and i don't plan to take him to shows, so that's about all registered is good for...
as for pointing out soemthign stupid my mom's wasted money on.... well i wasn't gonna 'go there' but in the past few years her WEEKLY bar tab has easily hit 600... that's not including alll the money she's put in to putting beer in the fridge at home and such..

shouldve gotten 2 dogs. make the other one a huskie. <3 huskies.
slipknotpsycho

i'd LOVE to own a huskie... but i don't have the accomodations to keep him... no fenced yard.... =/ and keeping a dog on a 15 foot 'leash' their whole life is just wrong (we had a dog we had to do that too when i was younger and it killed me.... she'd literally CLIMB the fence... sticking one foot in a chainlink at a time.... i was always letting her off her chain cuz she always came back... but keeping her tied down seemed so wrong ot me)
anyways, i won't do that again... i don' thave the accomodations or that'd be one of my first choices actually...

Imo, your mom should mind her own business about you buying that dog.
Edit: after reading you spent $600 on a chiwawa or w/e i would've told you not to aswell. ONly because i can't stand those dogs though.
