I myself am completely convinced that marijuana is one of the greatest things put on earth. And I am so sick of seeing it advertised the way it is, and how U.S citizens are lied to right to our faces. And we buy into every word of it.

But now onto my question, I see all these support groups and think they are doing a really amazing job and I wish the best of luck to all of them... But, do you really ever think it will happen? Do you ever think cannabis will be legal?

I mean, we show them facts and make them run... But then they come back with some bullshit lie that can back them up. Just like the "skunk" weed thats been put out there lately that is too strong and can cause brain damage or some shit.. Are we ever going to win? Or are we pretty much hopeless...

Sorry for venting... But I've been thinking about it so much lately and I don't even know where to start... I came out and told my parents I smoke and tried to convince them with facts and everything, about how it helps me sleep, etc... But they kept coming back with it's illegal. And then my mom said, "Have you seen that brain on drugs commercial."

And thats when I realized, they have everyone brainwashed... Even the parents are buying into there bullshit ads. It makes me sick to see them actually believe those lies... And to know that I can do jack shit about it, makes me want to cry...

Oh yeah.. and I didn't know that since I smoked pot, I'm a terrorist... Thanks John Walters..

It's all bullshit.
They are ramping up the bullshit because...
WE ARE WINNING!!!
almost a third of America has Medical Marijuana now.
Over 80% support legalizing it.
You CAN make a difference.
Call your legislators and speak the truth. Get your friends to do it too. If enough of us do, we'll have it legal right after the election.

I totally agree marijuana is the best thing ever!

Personally, I think that it is possible that we'll see the legalization of pot in our lifetime. Society in general tends to get more liberal as time goes on. Progress is inevitable. But the US will probably one of the last industrialized nations to legalize pot - that I can see too.

Compared to a lot of other countries in the world, the US is pretty uptight. We need to chill out and enjoy life more.

But whether or not weed actually becomes legal, I don't really care 'cause I'm still gonna smoke it.

And I'm still trying to figure out an underground "marijuana distribution" network that will put the glorious weed into everyone's hands who want it (but I won't discuss that here cause that'd be a big no-no). :-)

Yeah, I totally remember those "this is your brain on drugs" commercials, with the egg in the frying pan and shit. Hahaha those cracked me up. Sometimes I think about those when I'm toking and I just start laughing and laughing.

Well at an age of 17 I don't know if I can do much... But I will start spreading the word to my friends...

When I reach 18 I while also pledge to NORML.

A question for you though, I've been reading lately that Ron Paul is the man to be voting for in the next election for president. I've went to his site and read around, but can't find any sightings or changes for the drug war or anything of the sort. Any info on him?

100 or so years ago if you were to say, that women could vote, people would laugh at you. If you were to say that black people have the same rights and are as equal as white people, people would call you crazy.

Anythings possible if enough people get behind it, or rather, enough important leaders get behind the idea.

Prohibitionists are only delaying the inevitable, and displaying
their own incompetence. People are ignorant, but that ignorance
only travels so far, and you can't argue with logic for very long.

The only thing we really have to work on is bringing weed out of the "sub-culture" it has been in for so long and bring it mainstream. Because as long as its part of the sub-culture of society (at least in the US), then no one aside from stoners will take the issue seriously.

Medical marijuana is an important step in getting this done. I think everyone can sympathize with cancer patients, those who are terminally ill, suffer chronic pain, etc. Those people represent a cross-section of society, and if they know that marijuana can help them, then they can be loud voices for its decriminalization.

Politicians? Forget them. Republicans and democrats are all the same. They are puppets of big business and bow down to special interests. The only thing that matters in politics today is money - not good ideas or rational common sense. The US needs a BIG overhaul of the federal government to change things, so that the government really is the will of the people and represents every day people like you and I. The yahoos in office now have no intention or motivation to help with the marijuana issue.

A few democrats would think about making medical marijuana okay, but that's about the extent of it. Don't even get me started with republicans. I think Dennis Kucinich is the biggest proponent of marijuana, at least from what I've seen. Basically, we need more stoners in congress and other high federal offices.

Honestly, I've even heard a lot of conservatives (ie republicans) say that they don't think it's worth it to arrest and detain small-time marijuana users. Someone who tokes up in their house after work poses little threat to society-at-large. So decriminalizing marijuana is an idea that's starting to spread across party lines.

Like I said in my earlier post, society gets more "liberal" as time goes on. The blowhards in office now won't always be there, and the stoners (a growing segment of the population) will eventually reach the age where they can not only vote, but also run for office.

Sorry for my long post. I usually don't do this but I'm sitting at home, bored, with only a little weed left, so I want to make it last until next week and hopefully I can get some more.

Great thread though!!!

We just need to get more people elected that are pro pot.I thought when my generation got to power maybe things would change but they haven't.The most important question to ask someone your thinking about voting for."Are you pro pot"If they so no don't vote for them.

I've sometimes fantasized about the revolution (when high)....

how the twelve Stoner Lords on Earth band together to overthrow the prohibitonist laws, and I end up leading them, and securing weed to be legal on an international scale.....and then I stand up in front of a cheering crowd of millions of people and announce that weed is fully legal....

I am then presented with a huge bong filled with white widow and they give me the honour of being the first to hit the Bong of Freedom. Many years after my death, the bong's in a museum.

Wow I'm feeling that

It's horrible....It's like theres no way we could win with our commercialized society. Everybody IS in fact brainwashed. We don't yet have strong enough of a force to popularize our opinion. Not now at least. It could be popular.

i think now that more and more studies are coming out with evidence showing cannabis is beneficial and not so much bad for a person...things will start to change for the better. If they knew the things we know now in the 70's...this shit would be legal without a doubt.

One day the weed might send us crazy like they keep saying and in an unfortunate turn of events we accidently killed all non smokers. That'll be the day. Shame that'll never happen really, concidering cannabis doesnt do that whatsoever. Bloody lying cheating corrupt bastards that have our fucking money, and are brainwashing everyone, it's pathetic.

I've been feeling the same way about losing the war, both leading party leaders are going to reclassify it they say although Gordon Brown is thinking of doing it quickly while he's in power based on the "skunk" claims b ut after reading there is hope, the US despite having real dickheads for cops have alot more weed moving through their country.

Waiting for 12:01

It??s hard waiting. It??s New Year??s Eve, but my party does not start until 12:01. I sit in the half-lit room, watching the clock as a fly crawls across the face of the clock on the wall. The red second hand has never moved so slowly. It doesn??t disturb the fly as it creeps it??s way around the dial again. Will it ever be 12:01?
At 12:01, the laws change. Tomorrow, cannabis will be legal. At 12:01, I will light up a joint and step outside and smoke without fear for the very first time. Oh, I??m a medical user, but that hasn??t meant Jack. If they wanted to get you, they would. We all knew it and lived like timid little mice-- hiding in the shadows, afraid to be seen or heard. At 12:01, there will no longer be medical users??no more over-priced doctors giving you permission to treat yourself with a herb; no more shiver when a cop car goes by; no more paying a seedy dealer the same price as gold for some dried flowers. No more, never again. No more deception. I won??t need to camouflage myself in ??straight? clothes ever again. I no longer will have to pretend that don??t need this herb. I can say ?? I love this herb that has given me back my life. Maybe it can help you, too.? I can even wear my peasant blouse with the embroidered marijuana leaves to work. What can they say now? It??s just some pretty leaves, nothing illegal.
At 12:01, my world changes. Everyone??s world changes. I have rolled a perfect joint for this occation. It is a pale, translucent cylinder with the ends crimped tight. I can see tiny bits of the cannabis through the paper. It??s my finest homegrown?as it should be. I??ll be lighting up for all my friends and loved ones who didn??t make it to today? David, Richard, my Mom, all of them.
My party isn??t going to be loud or flashy, I??ll light some Japanese incense, not out of paranoia, but because the scent is pleasing to me. Quiet music will play and I will smoke while thinking of all those I??ve lost, all those who died in prison for trying to ease their pain, all those who have died in a prison of pain for lack of a simple herb. As I smoke, I will try to let go of all the fear, anger and pain prohibition has caused. I will try to forgive. I will keep a quiet vigil until dawn, smoking and reflecting. I know this is not what most folks would call a party, but it??s my party. It is a celebration of a long sought and hard fought victory. It is my freedom.
Just before sunrise, I will place my beautiful, closet-grown, secretly nurtured plants out on my patio for the first time. They will feel the kiss of real sunlight and wind on their leaves and buds. My lights will be for winter use only and won??t need to be hidden away in a back closet like some shameful secret. This is how it should be.
As the sun rises, I will bathe and get into my old ??hippie? clothes. I??ll take the bus downtown to the NORML office. We are having an ??Open House? party there in the morning. We will be handing out little boxes with labeled seeds (a big ??thank you? to our west coast and Canadian friends), two brownies and a eighth of an ounce for free and I will be one of the people handing them out. (We have been planning and working secretly on this since we got the news of the law??s change. You wouldn??t believe how much work went into this!) That will be part of my party, too. We will be freeing people from their pain and giving them the way to grow their own medicine. Knowing our crowd, we will rejoice, sing, dance and laugh our way through the day, smoking all the way. As the day goes on, old friends will be set free from jails across the nation. A few may drop in, but I expect most will be going straight home- where they should have been all along. But that??s all in the morning. Right now, I sit and watch the fly slowly walk around the face of the clock as the second hand moves one more tick ?I??m waiting? Waiting for 12:01.
