I recently received a few orders from seedboutique and the freebies were South African Durban Poison x Skunk #1. On a few other boards i have heard only bad things about this strain. Mostly everyone says they are hard to germ there was only guy if i remember correctly that actually got it going and harvested it. He said it was a really good high and taste but im just wondering should i toss them out or give it a shot, also just want to hear if anyone has had these actually work for them!

well, I definitely wouldn't 'toss them out', unless I was 'tossing' them into potting soil :D ... I have heard Durban Poison ain't that hot, but I've never had a bad Skunk ... what do ya have to lose ? ... or, give them to someone to use ...

Over the weekend i tried to germ 5 and out of the 5 one popped while i had it in some water. I then moved them into a wet paper towel and none popped from their and the one that had already popped in the water made no progress. I read on another forum that while germing these seeds they should be at a higher temp than most seeds. I dont know but my entertainment systems produces alot of heat and they still didnt pop. I'll try the other 5 with not so much heat and see if this helps.

put the 'popped' seeds directly into your soil from now on (once it emerges from the shell, it is very susceptible to 'damp-off' from being too wet, too long) ... it is not a good idea to let the taproot extend more than 1/8" or so, from the shell ... I know some growers will let that taproot grow much longer, but they are asking for trouble ... the taproot is very fragile, and doesn't like light, either ... they do like to be warm while germinating, but 80-85 degrees F, is warm enough, more is too hot ... :smokin:

2 more are cracked open but no taproot has appeared. The one that had popped in the water had a taproot appear but it is very little i was going to take a pic of it but i planted it after reading your post.
If the tap root doesnt appear on the other 2 that cracked i'll just take a pic of them! I'll be germing the other 5 tonight anyone have any methods of germing that i should try. I really would like to grow one of these out since i've only read one post of someone actually growing these out and he only had 2 to germ out of 10 and one ended up being male so he had 1 female and he likes it alot.

I "think" it was crossed with skunk#1 to reduce the flowering time as most sativas do. Durban poison has a 10 week flowering time according to the website and is sometimes crossed with skunk to get an early finisher. Gotta love thar skunk #1 though that stinks!

This is what has happened to 3 out of 5 of them! One had a taproot appear i have that one in soil right now and one never cracked at all. All of the rest did as the picture shows. When the rest crack (if they crack) should i just put them in soil even if no tap root appears.

I always advise to 'mimic nature' ... nature doesn't pre-soak, or have access to paper towels ... we do those things to give the seed a 'headstart' on absorbing moisture, nothing more ... stick 'em in the dirt where they belong ... if the taproot emerges, it will do so, regardless of whether or not, you're watching ... taproots and roots are killed by light, not a good idea to prolong its exposure ... :smokin:

Damn you lucky sob, lol! The one that i put in the soil has yet to pop through the soil so i'm guessing it wont pop. It shouldnt take a week to emerge i dont think?! I've started the papaya so i dont really have the room for the durban poison x skunk but i'll just try to germ them they probably wont pop anyway but if they do i guess i'll just have to do a guerilla grow!:pimp:

I too got the 10 freebies of Durbon Poison with my Hawaiian Snow..all were duds except for one, which is exactly what yours is doing...I waited 2 weeks for it with no results..these seeds which many have posted havent germinated all must be really old or past their prime as someone should have had some better results if not...Seedboutique could/should do better than that...Come on!!
Peace,

oh man this is sounding like a big time bummersky. i just got a freebie pack i was hoping for some dank nuggets not some problem child seeds! I'm going to soak in water (with filtered water with very trace amounts of superthrive, liquid karma and peroxide) overnight, without looking at any of them or worrying about taproots i'm going to put them in wet paper towel in a plastic bag on a germination heating pad with a layer of cardboard in between check on them till i see little roots then strait into rockwool and soil
(I know it might not be "natural" to use heating pads, paper towels, liquid karma, superthrive and shit like that but hell we're doing all this indoors, that ain't natural we might as well try to do everything without harming the organism to ensure success and health, hell i'd give them crushed up flinstones vitamins if it would help)

A couple cracked! My albino rhino's are VERY healthy and getting bigger by the day. The poison skunk is really picky. I put 10 seeds into one thing of rockwool and am hoping for at least one to crack, it would be nice if all of them did.

I killed the DP sprout along with 9 papaya seedlings because i made a frickin noob mistake of keep the top of the soil moist. All of the seedlings got damping and died only one survived and its looking good.

i´ve got some durban+skunk that i cross myself and is very good smoke, but they are very easy to overfert so just be carefull. for them to sprout i basically put the seeds in some pre-soaked cotton and when they crack i put right away in the soil, is the best thing for me.
