I don't know. Last few years have been lame.. And full of people who are not yet able to vote  Those there are not the ones we need to convince but the people who walk 10 blocks away to avoid hempfest are the real ones they need to target, not 13 year olds:mad:. Yes, I have an issue with MassCann and how they waist there funds on stuff that does not advance the cause.

I was gonna say..........I saw pictures of the last few years and it looked like the average age was about 17 or so. I'd definitely stick out like a sore thumb at 41. lol. Looks like fun for the college kids though. :)

Well honey I'm older than you and I want to go for exactly that reason- to support the med mj cause there need to be older solid type citizens involved. As long as the kids don't have any role models amoung older adults, they will continue to be marginalized.

Anyway, it is a good excuse to meet with friends beforehand, have a smoke and then mingle at the common. The venders have some neat things sometimes and there are speakers to listen to and petitions to sign- of course you can't safely smoke there - ITS ILLEGAL:D

So who else is up for the fun?

Well maybe I'll go then!!! I just don't know anyone to go with so I thought I'd look like the old mommy spy or something. lol.

Gawd I WISH they'd legalize pot in Mass!!! I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and weed is the ONLY thing that helps without any side effects, but unfortunately I was getting it from a friend's brother who just moved away so now I'm left bone dry. I have called up all the people I used to smoke with in HS too and what the heck everyone stopped smoking except for this one guy who I barely knew who apparently lives in Cali now. :( I really shouldn't have to stoop to begging at this point in my life you know what I mean? I mean I've even contemplated going to the streets where I KNOW they sell but for goodness sakes I'm 41 and own a house I shouldn't have to do all this for medicine to help me!!!

It's very very very frustrating. I'm in the planning stages of setting up a grow room but I mean c'mon I took home ec, not shop, so this is gonna take some TIME. :(

I agree, it is ridiculous to be adults put into such a position! You should really focus on growing a few plants for your own use. Since I decided to do that last year, I have had several fine harvests- and I no longer have to expose myself to some dealer's baloney:jointsmile: I was in the same boat as you are, and now it is smooth sailing!
If you go to Hempfest, we could meet up and chat if you'd like- wear a funny hat or something so I'll know you.

stinkyattic
08-29-2007, 05:13 PM

I'll be wearing a Sox hat.
As usual.
Just like everyone else in Boston....
Except I look damn good in mine!

Maybe we should all wear Sox hats! Wouldn't it be great if 50, 100, 387 people showed up at hempfest wearing sox hats:D

Mr D and I went to Ptown yesterday- a very fun day only slightly marred by way over-rich lobster bisque- my tummy was rumbly all day! Either that or it was the baconburger from the day before- I need to ease up on this heavy eating! My insides can't handle the abuse! So of course I brought home three kinds of fudge!!!
But we also got a great Christmas ornament- a bulldog in a leather hat and jacket with a rainbow on the side, wearing shades- so adorable!

Are we all just going to try to meet at the common or should we start elsewhere? Mr. D won't be here that weekend; he's flying to Texas, so you can stay over at my place if you want (I get a little spooked when he's gone :(
I plan to make some canna butter today- need to fly over to the recipe section-

I'd love to stay over except that I believe I will be catching a ride down with another canncommer from my area. I have to figure out how I am getting there before making any plans since my transportation is a little outta service atm. I have to send off a couple emails and figure all this out.

You know I've lived north of Boston all my life and NEVER been to Ptown!!! I've been to the cape a lot but never made it all the way down there. I have a few friends who go once/year and they say it's a hoot. lol. There's one store that sells "toys" and my gf said they hang down from the ceiling like sausages in the North End. :D:D

Yes, we went into a sex shop, and boy do they have everything - very fancy rubber penises for $85- but I couldn't help but think for that $ I could get a cute pair of boots:D
This was our first time there and I'd go back- it is a shopper's haven if you are into blown glass (no jk intended) vases and other pretty home furnishings. I also got earrings 1/2 price- since it is the end of the season, many retailers are putting things on sale, so even poor me can afford some treats!

I like to go to the Cape when it's late Sep/early Oct just 'cause all the crowds are gone.

Ok so I'm gonna ask the ex if he'll switch weekends with me so that I can go to this thing. I'll let you all know how that works out. Normally he's cool with things like that but this is the end of racing season (he has a semi-pro drag race car) so I never know when he has a big race coming up. I hope I can go 'cause it would be cool to meet some people and I'd love to get a steady hookup to hold me over until I get my plants going.

BTW people have emailed me offering to sell via the mail. What's up with that??? :wtf: I know I'm blonde but I'm not THAT much of an airhead that I'd actually give someone I don't know money to send pot through the mail so that the cops end up on my doorstep!!!! roflamoooo!!!!

You actually CAN smoke at the fest if you're careful. The general consensus is that if you are with a large group of people, in the middle of everything, they'll leave you alone. But if the fuzz sees you creeping by yourself in the woods, making a deal, or leaving the common to toke up, it's open season on your ass.

Yeah I tend to agree that encouraging people to put themselves at risk is going to be looked upon with a bit of skepticism...
Remember, this is the era of homeland security... while pre-9/11 it might have been somewhat safer, I no longer know what rules everyone is playing by... if that makes any sense. We've lost a lot of rights, and proximity to government buildings gives them an even better excuse to target you.
I have to be honest, my first hunch at reading that post was 'wow... is this dude a cop?'
So just FYI.

PopaBean

Like I said in another thread, you need to use your head. They are going to be looking for people smoking obviously.
There is a time and a place to smoke and this isn't really going to be one of them.
You want to go there and light up, be prepared for jail would be my advice.

Do what you need to do ahead of time and have fun.

Could have been far better.
The live music was oriented towards too young a crowd. Bunch of teenagers trying to get mosh pits going... meh. I was hoping that they would not be trying to preach to the damn CHOIR.
I was sorely disappointed.
If it weren't for the WHUPPIN' that the sox put down on New York, which I was lucky enough to watch from Lir right outside Fenway, in the company of a Donk and a Stealth, it would have been rather a waste of gas.

Surprised no one posted this yet:

HEMP ACTIVISTS GET THE JOINT JUMPING
by O'ryan Johnson, (Source:Boston Herald)

NORML Newsfeed
16 Sep 2007

Massachusetts
-------
Two of the nation's leading advocates for legalized marijuana were arrested on Boston Common yesterday for lighting up a joint during the Boston Freedom Rally, a pro-hemp event that promotes decriminalizing the drug.

R. Keith Stroup, 63, founder of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, and Rick Cusick, 53, an editor at High Times magazine, were charged with possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor. "We were smoking a joint behind the booth here," Stroup said. "I'm sure the police would rather be chasing real criminals. We're both productive, hard-working taxpayers."

High Times and NORML are co-sponsors of the annual rally that celebrates pot culture and traditionally results in dozens of arrests of addle-brained youths who mistakenly believe it is legal to toke up for just that day.

"A lot of them said they thought it was an amnesty," said one of the cops at the makeshift booking area where plainclothes police led the shame-faced youths who were caught smoking reefer. The 60-plus arrested found it was not only not legal for that day but would cost them a day in court.

Despite the number of arrests, while Stroup was onstage telling the crowd about his own arrest he also prompted the audience to "stand up, light up and let the world know how you feel." The advice was heeded by men who identified themselves as Anthony Martins, 22, of West Bridgewater, and Josh Hatfield, 22, of Weymouth, and passed a joint back and forth during Stroup's speech.

"No, I don't think it's legal," Martins said, when asked if he thought there was an amnesty. "It's something I'm proud of. It's not like I'm a heroin addict."

Asked why he was smoking pot, Martins said, "To fight the power."

Stroup, who was arrested once before 24 years ago, said he and Cusick were relaxing and smoking a joint in the park, an activity he said was no harm to anyone.

Both men said police treated them well and professionally during the booking process.

"I've been waiting 33 years to get arrested," said Cusick, chuckling. "When it happened I was calm, like a monk. I told them I'd call my lawyer, but he got arrested with me."

But damned that JD Drew...
HAHAHAHA Where have I heard that before?
Maaaan what a discouraging week. Best team in baseball and we aren't even gonna make the damn playoffs. Jeter can kiss my ass.

Hempfest organizers need to understand that they aren't doing anyone a favor by trying to attract a bunch of black-clad skater punks... need to lose the hardcore band and replace with something us older folks aren't going to feel the need to stuff cotton in our ears to avoid.
And those dudes getting arrested, wtf. I'd be like, Okay, I dig it, if they'd been nabbed for sparking one right up at the podium as a public act of civil disobedience, instead of sneaking around back like they momma was gon' put a whup on them for smoking in the house. They're activists, dammit, not schoolchildren!

I'm just shaking my head over all of it. Very disappointed.
