One of my youngsters has some strange stuff going on with the leaves. After reading about lockout and roootbound, i will be transplanting today, howver I don't think that is the problem.

Can anyone shed some light for me?

They are 5 weeks old, MG potting soil, RO water only no nutes, 18/6 germed from seed.

And while we are at it, can I set to 12/12 now to sex and then return to 18/6 without too much stress?

Thanks.

I'd also switch to tap water fro the Calcium in it. The leaves that are already dead look to me like they had been Ca deficient, among other things.
You are ready to start feeding.
I see what looks like a potassium deficiency too, but it could be scarring from previous insect damage. Looks more like K def though. The brown spots. Plus N def- the splotchy paleness around them.
A feeding with fish emulsion should take care of both the N def and the Ca problem btw.

your problem isn't being 'root-bound' ... I consistently grew 5-footers in 8-inch clay pots, with never a hint of 'rootbound' symtoms ... I did switch to the big #5 pots, though, when I learned pot-size is related to buds-size, and yield ... :smokin:

Ya know, I had leaves just like the one your holding and no matter what symptom solution I looked up, nothing had a picture of exactly what it was.
Based on suggestions I recieved, I picked up some fert that had alot of Mirco nutrients in it and that seemed to help alot... well, that and the plant turned out to be male, but it was starting to be healthy before I killed it! :)

I can't remember the exact name of the fert, but it was for Orchids and from Lowes.

Good luck! Misc symptoms can be a PITA.

Oh! I bet I know what it was, the Jack's Classic Orchid formula.
I have used that before and find it to be a pretty darn good product for the price.

I wouldn't do the 12/12 then back to 18/6 thing either.

Ehh... I don't think it was, but I will find out!

I couldn't find a more detailed link to it, but its from Better-Gro.

Better Gro Orchid Plus Orchid Fertilizer 20-14-13 on eBay Plants, Seeds, Bulbs, Gardening Plants, Home Garden (http://cgi.ebay.com/Better-Gro-Orchid-Plus-Orchid-Fertilizer-20-14-13_W0QQitemZ170046395671QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item17 0046395671&_trksid=p3286.c6.m20.l1116)

Cool, it has micros- that's the most important thing to see when you are trying to treat a weird deficiency.

It's a little on the strong side so about 50% of the suggested dilution strength will be a little safer until you know how your plants will like it.

Dizzy your av always makes me giggle. I would expect a nun to have a far more shocked expression when confronted with a bud equivalent to 75% of her body weight! :D

Notes on Fertilizer use (http://www.ladyslipper.com/fert.htm)

About 3/4 of the way down is the ingredients for the Better-Gro product I use.

@ Stinky, LOL. :)
Not to mention the nun is wearing sex-a leggings. Perhaps she's in the "bend over my knee and take a spanking for what I found in your closet", pose. ;)

Yup, I'm burnin for that one.

Doesn't the MG soil have time-release ferts already in it?

Miracle-Gro potting soil has the nitrogen time-release additives, that supposedly are used up after the first few weeks, I'm not sure if it includes any time-release P & K, or not ... :smokin:

whatever works for ya  ... personally, hydro looks more like WORK than FUN ... I have places to go, people to do, etc., ... can't be hanging around to check my PPM and TDS and pH, and all that other old crap ... I'm OLD, life's running out, gotta go play, do shit while I still can ! ,,, :S2:

stinky, i think that is a fairly good call. from what i read and my plants suffered it does look like a calcium deff. (i almost wrote clam, lol) too much potassium and lockout(low ph) can cause that, weather there is enough calcium or too much. i did a little treatment(3 dailys) of foliar wormcastings and sea bird guano(0-12-1) that really seamed to help(by the third day they were looking better). plus a multi vitamin, but im not sure about that. now they are in the woods, lol but i will let you know when i check them again. i thought i had a little mg deff. too so it did look slightly different.

20-20-20 is a pretty strong formula, I would stick with the weaker organics, or dilute what you have quite a bit ... I used Fox Farm's 'Grow Big' this time around, and it's a 6-4-4, still easily managed a little bit of 'burn' :D ... I don't fertilize for a week, before and after transplanting, but that's just me ... someone told me that a long time ago, and it's worked good so far ... :smokin:

sounds fair enough to me...

I am going to give it a week before starting any fert at all.

Thanks for the input..I'm in advertising not botany...

Transplanted last night into a mix of 1 10kg bag of potting soil .9-0-0 mixed with 1/3 small bag of vermiculite and same amount of perlite.

Water tomorrow, and will start some nutes three days later. The orchid formula is something I will try as it is readily available.

The little ladies took well to transplant and I thank you all for validating my thoughts and giving me your input.

Stinky, I read about 100 of your posts and you share some really valuable information. Thanks for your contribution.

Since I had 20-20-20 i used it at 1/4 strength and will continue to do so for the next two weeks. (till I get paid and can afford all the rest of the stuff I need)

Going to 12/12 today cause I gotta have sex....
