Re: Victory in Orange County
Friends,
Orange County, one of the most conservative and Republican counties
in America, just passed a Medical Marijuana Identification Card program.
As a former Orange County resident, I have been closely following the
progress of this battle, from my office desk here, in Mendocino,
California. While a lot of people deserve credit, two activists
worked especially long and hard to make this happen: F. Aaron Smith
and Bruce Cohen.
Aaron, with Safe Access Now, is a full time paid activist, but he
goes far above the call of duty, never stopping at just 8 hours a
day, or five days a week. He certainly was the main organizer of
this effort.
And then there is Bruce Cohen. Bruce, as always, is 100% a volunteer
in this. He's a community leader, and an dedicated figure in the
Libertarian movement.
Bruce leveraged his past efforts in working with the OC Supervisors
and their staff, on top of his efforts in working in their electoral
campaigns.
It's a credit to the open-mindedness of the Orange County Supervisors
this did pass. Supervisors Chris Norby, John Moorlach, Pat Bates and
Bill Campbell all did the right thing, even though the Sheriff and
District Attorney refused to cooperate.
I first met John Moorlach, about a year ago, at a Libertarian Party
of Orange County meeting, hosted by their Chair, Bruce Cohen. Most
OC officials of John's stature aren't willing to even consider
talking about marijuana, period. Instead, John took out his notepad,
asked me very good questions, and took notes. Next time I'm in
Orange County, I'm going to shake his hand!
Aaron and Bruce got the job done without tooting their own horns.
Other than notifying their own internal lists and groups, they did
this just for the personal satisfaction of helping real people in
medical need.
As a Medican Marijuana Patient myself, it makes my heart swell to see
such fine Americans work so hard for me and the rest of the MMJ
community.
On behalf of the patients, physicians, nurses, scientists and
dedicated members of the American Medical Marijuana Association, I
publicly commend both of them as true selfless heroes, putting
service to others above all else.
If you have a chance, please call or e-mail them to let them know how
much you appreciate their work on behalf of all patients in need, and
to keep American free!
Let freedom grow,

only begun.
