Hey I just joined today and wanted to share my experiences.

I have OCD. It affects my everyday activity. Quite frankly, it's a problem.
OCD has ruined a number of my relationships with friends and halts me from doing many things with them. Everytime I smoke, my compulsions are gone. I find all of my normal rituals completely unneccessary, not for only the time I am high but for most of the day! Recently, I have been smoking alot and my OCD symptoms are mild all the time. Yet there are still people (Idiots) out there who think it cant be used as medicine.

Im really in a tough place right now because my school is starting to drug test randomly. I dont know if I should stop smoking all together or smoke once a month... or continue smoking alot. So, I have two choices...
A.) Stop smoking and not take the chance of getting caught and expelled
B.) Continue smoking and have my OCD in a mild state, rather than a disabilitating one.

play ryan, i too have OCD, i know where you are comming from, and now im sorry but i gotta tell you something you wont like

weed does NOT help OCD, it makes it a hell of alot worse, sure when ure high the compulsions go (well most of mine did, except for handwashing and locking doors) but your obsessions (if you have any) get much much worse whilst on the ganj, not only that but once youve come down, your compulsions come back and they get alot harder to break, weed will not help it will just make things worse

a mate of mine, who is a doc, told me once that maybe 70% of people can smoke weed daily with no ill effect, unfortunately we are in the 30% who can get wide variety of psychological issues from smoking, OCD is just the start, prolonged use can even lead to psychosis

now i will tell you what will help, therapy, if your not seeing someone about your ocd you should, i went to see a great therapist for a few months, stopped smoking weed, worked hard on myself and whilst i still have the compulsions and occaisionally will double check the doors are locked or use a little too much soap when washing my hands, for the most part i have the compulsions under control (as far as the obsessions, theyre still there but i can choose to ignore them mostly),

now that im in a good place with my ocd i choose to continue smoking, this is a choice that only you can make, but just know everytime you light up you are making your ocd worse

oh also, most shrinks will give you anti depressants, i got perscribed fluvoxamine, they arent too bad, i took them for a while, found myself cleaning and organizing my room, paying more attention to my studies and at work, got along great with my parents, problem was i felt very robot like and after a while it took the tingle outta my dingle, so to speak, so i stopped takin em, in your sitch id recommend giving em a shot, if they work for you great, if not throw em away, any other questions lemme know id be glad to help ya out.,...

Thank you very much for that. So far nothing has gotten worse.
Everything is better and I've been doing it for a while.

The only reason Im not going to a therapist is that Im worried about taking anti-depresants. What do ya think?

well look, ive been smoking since i was 12, which is probably one of the reasons i have ocd, if it hasnt made anything worse, chances are it will soon, however you could be one of the lucky 70% and your ocd could come from somewhere else.

as far as anti depressants go, they are not good, i tried them i didnt like them, i never plan to go near them again, however therapy is good, im not sure if theres a diff between yank law and aussie law, but over here a shrink cannot force you to take your pills, in fact no one can, if you go to therapy and they recommend anti depressants, and you do not want them, simply tell them no, tell them you want to be treated with therapy and not drugs, you could also try them out, see if they help, if you dont like them its very easy to stop (depending on what they give you though)

what my therapist did was sit with me and we took a look at my compulsions and found why i was repeatedly washing my hands, or checking the doors were locked, knowing why you do the things you do helps ya stop doing them, and that is why i recommend therapy

I have OCD as well - a disorder called TTM. It's where, out of anxiety, you pull out your hair, strand by strand, obsessively, when you're feeling a certain feeling. It's pretty much involuntary, I never notice I'm doing it. I've had it for about seven years now, and no amount of therapy has ever been able to do anything about it.

My last behaviorist told me smoking pot would make it worse because I'd zone out and pull more, but that's not the case at all. It definitely relaxes me, and when I'm high I don't feel the urge to pull nearly as much.

I know it's a scary prospect, thinking about getting caught, but everyone here has wonderful advice about stealth smoking in just about any situation. You're not a bad kid. Marijuana is a legitimate answer to your problem.

Don't feel guilty, smoke smart, and chill

I have OCD too, and I certainly agree with you..I'd smoke anyways, and once caught (if you did) provide legitimate information regarding the use of cannabis to treat OCD, and tell them to fuck themselves..

luckily at my school they can only do testing if you're in extra curricular activities...I quit everything...I take it your school is testing any and everybody they wish to??

lotsa taxpaying dollars goes to schools for drug testing...oh wait, Marijuana testing I mean..

Thank you guys for all of the help. I really appreciate it.

And, yes my school is testing everybody randomly. They pull you right out of class and bring you to test...
So... I'm fucked...

Do you feel you will continue to excel if smoking and suffer academically and socially if you don't ? Do you find this to be justified without having spoken to a therapist? Try speaking to a councilor about your OCD and slowly work in your method of treatment to maybe gain some ground if the day were to come where you were caught. In the meantime just be smart and do what works for you. I too have some OCD tendencies and they are not fun. :)
