I had some bud like that in Victoria a few years back. Smelled like perfume and wasn't enjoyable at all. Got me high but it took 10 minutes to get the taste out of my lungs. I figured someone was trying to cover up the smell and sprayed it with some shit. Nasty.

This is one of the reasons I'm growing my own now.

Does it smell like ammonia? It's got mold. Throw it away.

I always wondered if you can use moldy weed to make cannabutter, but I'm not willing to let my weed go moldy to test it.:D Anyone know?

Not recommended!!! VD I'm surprised you would ask- would you use moldy rosemary to make an infused oil?

never even heard of rosemary going moldy... but is mold fat or water soluable? because there may be a way to separate it...see where I'm going here?

It's not so much the mold itself as the toxins contained therein. Although of course spores are quite dangerous- you can't say that SPORES are soluble, as they are particulate.
I think rosemary has a bit of antiseptic properties actually. I'm not sure though. I was just using it as an example.

that's a tough one ... personally, I throw away bud that is questionable in any way ... your health is at stake, being irreversibly ill is no fun ... but, saying that, I suspect it MAY be OK for cooking ... and, I'm just tossing around ideas, here ... wouldn't the cooking process, whch is around 300-350 F, usually, kill any living mold organisms ??? ... I'm no authority, so don't assume I gave it the thumbs-up ... :wtf:

Roasted leg of lamb with rosemary and garlic...mmmm a thin slice of heaven:jointsmile:

stinky, I guess my origional question should have been clearer. Is there a way to extract the thc from the mold spores?

Teh mold spores don't have any thc in them- I bet you just worded your Q wrong- There are 2 things about mold that are dangerous: Spores and any toxins that variety of mold might produce. Even if you kill the spores, the toxins are a big unknown. The Yeag might know a little more about this- he's got a lot of mold remediation experience.
I don't think it's worth risking personally.
There is a thread somewhere called "Cooking with moldy bud" that gets into this question.

ive saved a jar with amonia smell before, dump it out in a paper sack and start drying again. check for mold of course. if it smells like pinesol it might be the flavor itself.

a lot of people started growing their own cannabis, to avoid situations where their herb had been tainted with additives, pesticides, etc ... I would hope most people would just 'trash their stash' :D(I just made that up,), if they just knew how dangerous smoking moldy weed is ...
