Do you ever catch yourself saying things like "oh my god" or "lord knows" or "thank god"?

of course. quite a few of the exclamations we use every day contain religious references. i've also been known to use the term "son of a bitch" when referring to people whose parentage i know nothing about and i sometimes call particularly offensive people assholes even though they only vaguely resemble that particular part of the anatomy. such exclamations are not meant to provide information, but to provide emphasis.
i also eat french fries and i am under no circumstances deluded enough to believe that either the potatoes or the lard they are cooked in have anything to do with france.

i'm one of those people.. bless you fine, god bless you? meh, just feels like yet another person trying to force their religion on me, that's my viewpoint on that...
yes i use those phrases... but it's just to express emotion.... oh my god = unbelievable, jesus christ = incredible, unbelievable... thank god = relief
mostly i use jesus christ and thank god in video games tho.... i get my ass handed to me by some NPC monster in a game, i say jesus christ for example... or i see what all i'm about to have to do and it's like a crapload of enemies or alot of jumping/manuvers that require near perfection, again i say jesus christ...
something seems impossible, like literally impossible i say oh my god... as in oh my god i'm never goign ot get passed this...
when i finally beat that certain part and i've just barely made it by the hair on my nuts i say thank god...
i use oh my god with my wife alot too... if she gets mad at me over nothing i'll say it, or if she says soemthing completely ridiculous OR twists my words around i'll say it..
Oh My High

Holy shit do I think "oh my god" more often than theists, my god down here in the Bible Belt where it's considered some cardinal sin to mention the "Lord's" name in vein, Jesus Christ people are too literal. Anyone want a hot dog or hamburger?â??I'm going to hell. :D

I find that I often go out of my way to use them just because I'm not religous...I'm not sure if that makes a bad person. I'm probably going to hell for it though.
Oh my celestial being - Oh my god - OMG - this seems to eb the most commonly used form, I think it's in the top 10 most used phrases on the internet thanks to chatrooms and message boards.
I grew up in an extremely religous household and it just never sat well with me. Of course naturally I have to hide the fact that I'm not religous and pretend I am or I'd probably be excommunicated (is that what it's called/how it's spelled?) which is bothersome...kind of went off on a tangent. the end.
Yes; 'Jesus-fucking-christ' is a big one for me, so is 'god dammit'.

I like to expand it out to "Jesus-Titty-Fucking-Christ"

I say God fuckin damnit more than anything, but I say those others too. I also tell people that I AM God, and that I bless them in the name of me and my son and my holy spirit... Aaaaa-ME.
Oh and Im also Satan, and I own hell. Its a wonderful piece of real estate! Supply stays the same but the demand keeps on growing!

Yes, they're just phrases (I don't say lord btw). Many revolve around religious. My theory is that geez came from Jesus, but people not wanting to say his name in vain perhaps, and that turned into gee (maybe, but who cares?).

lol i just remembered, in times of extreme anger AND dismay where i don't really know what to say.. iv'e been known to say things like 'god help me if you don't get the fuck outta here now....'
it's never failed either... hey....
if it ain't broke, don't fix it... gets people outta my face that's what i wanted... why fuck with a working equasion...
cuz aparently alot of people take "i'm going to kill you if you're not outta my face in 3 seconds" to mean "hey sit down in that chair, i like you, ask me 10 times over why"

no, what i said was that such exclamations are used for emphasis. by using the word god in such a situation, we are actually signifying that the concept of "god" is of little or no importance and that it can be cast off as an idle remark.
God is Imaginary - 50 simple proofs (http://www.godisimaginary.com)
Read it. Don't be afraid to read it... it might open you up to new views. I know most christians, catholics, etc, would be afraid to read such a thing. And even if they did, they always rationalize that the website is Satan's doing, or something. Read it anyway! Open yourself up to new views - Christianity might not be the only answer.
