I was kind of a fan of Linkin Park when they first came out with One Step Closer before the album launched, I thought it sounded kind of like KoRn which was obviously one of their prime influences (and another reason why KoRn keeps changing their sound), but their shit got old quick. And that half ass white rapping set it over the edge. It was too emo for me back then AND I was in the fuckin crazy house at the time. Jay-Z made their shit sound better, and Im not even the biggest Jay-Z fan. And hot damn does Chester look out of place in that band... when I look at him I definitely dont think "wow hes the personification of Rock star."
But they got their shit didnt they? Selling out makes money after all.

the best album they did is the remix/reinterpretation album they did that featured all the real hip hop artists and such... and the version of one step closer actually featuring jon davis is pretty sweet

theres lots of good bands that dont sell out... you just have to look a lil harder to find them, cause they dont get the marketing and promotions more commercial-freindly music does... the best music out there is not on the radio

I really liked LP when they first came out [Hybrid Theory]...I liked their sound...they infused a few different genres into one. I also liked what they did with Jay, that was pretty creative. I haven't really heard anything newer by them though.
Anyway, some people would describe 'selling out' being in the public eye with music videos on MTV and all that. Well, if that's the case, they have been 'selling out' since their first album lol. But, who cares, the music was good.
But, I think Slip is talking about selling out the 'sound' which I don't know, haven't heard it.
I have a question though...many would say real hip-hop is dying fast [which, I understand...but Nas and the new Wu-Tang coming out soon pumps life back in]...but what about real rock and roll? It seems to have died a long time ago, which may be the reason a lot of people are living in the past as far as their choice of music goes?

this is true... i've rarely found ANYTHING decent post oh... say.. 1997-ish... i mean new bands of course.... most rock that's came out that time forward has either been too emo-ish or too mainstream boybandish sounding.. (maroon 5 comes to mind... hoobastank too)

Sad stuff really, I had a lot of respect for them when they first came out. I felt they were rather unique and more out there to do their own thing and what they think is cool. Not they're trash.

A few months ago when they released "What I've done" before the album dropped they had the big premiere on the radio and I when it was over I was like WTF, Chester's not angry and yelling his ass off no sampling, no rap this sucks. Everyone called in and was like I can't wait to get the album this is so great blah blah blah. I thought the song sucked as it was too commercial but I gave it a chance and I grew to like it. When the album came out I tried and tried to get into it but there is only about 3 good songs on it.
Meteora was their best album and I waited for Minutes to Midnight to be like that. LP pulled a Metallica with that St. Anger crap. I hope LP comes to their senses and goes back to their old style. Metallica knows that last album sucked and have said they are returning to their old style so hopefully LP will realize the same.

Just because they are changing their style with the scene doesn't mean they are selling out. It means they are making money. If they are happy then so be it. If they hate themselves for the music they make then burn them down. I personally don't mind their new stuff.

Well I can't speak for everyone but when I use the term sell out in reference to music or I hear the term I associate it with a band that "tones down" (anything from a metal band playing less hard music or writing less controversial lyrics, etc) their music so it can get more mainstream radio airtime or the music sounds almost like a commerical jingle that everyone can sing along to. The chorus in "What I've done" fits this perfectly. The song is basically two big chorus in fact. I never liked U2 but they are some of the biggest sell outs. That song Vertigo fits the commerical jingle pattern perfectly.
Linkin Park is now on regular rotation on stations that play things like soft rock and top 40.
It doesn't bother me so much that Linkin Park made some songs that are more mainstream and get more airtime but what does bother me is that the songs suck.

Yeah Linkin Park is an embarrassment. And FakeBoobsRule has a bit of a more accurate definition of selling out. Selling out really occurs when the band lets the producer tell them to stop trying to do their own thing and do this.. this will sell better.. go more pop with this album, theyll love it... here tweak this,, nah take that out nobody will understand, you want the people to understand you... shit like that. When the band actually does that shit.. THATS selling out. And it all ends up sounding poppy, mainstream, gay.. pretty much the same as everything else because thats what the mainstream brainwashed MTV crowd wants to hear. Something that sounds "different but the same." Lmao I really do hate MTV.. I blame alot of shit on them. Sure many artists have been able to progress and do phenomenol things due to MTV coverage, but at the same time that allows MTV to control mainstream musical opinion, and shape and form it to its own desires. And as far as Linkin Park's "rapping" goes... lmao... I dont even want to speak about it, I was embarrassed just listening to it, as if I might somehow be affiliated with that pathetic drivel-bound bullshit.
To Scream, who said this: "Just because they are changing their style with the scene doesn't mean they are selling out. It means they are making money. If they are happy then so be it. If they hate themselves for the music they make then burn them down. I personally don't mind their new stuff." I dont wanna laugh at you but I had to chuckle, man. That is pretty much exactly what selling out means. Forming their music to fit what everybody else wants in order to make more money. Musicians who are in it for the money only, as opposed to the love of music and the desire to change peoples lives somehow, are transparent and obvious. And they are the people that make some mainstream hit that sells out, then they drop back into nothingness because they have their money, but no real musical inspiration. Why do you think 3 of Linkin Parks middle albums were remixes and live albums and other shit and this and that... they dont know what the fuck to do next. Other than release another pathetic album full of new pathetic songs for MTV America to pretend to understand and like. Sorry to the people that like LP.. not trying to stereotype or criticize you guys AT ALL, I totally respect peoples opinions. Its just that they are a joke to me.
Smashing Pumpkins havent put a good album out since Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness. They stopped a concert because people were moshing. Like WHAT THE FUCK!? ITS A CONCERT! Another example of a sellout band.
I hate to say it but Greenday has absolutely sold out. I still even like some of their new shit but that doesnt take away from the fact that they have, in fact, sold out.
Good Charlotte.. they came from Waldorf, Maryland which is in my neck of the woods, and they sold out before they were even mainstream. I have so many friends that know them and grew up with them its not even funny. The only song of theirs I like is "Hold On."
KoRn will never sell out.. they will just continue to evolve their music, running away from the endless supply of imitators, until it is nearly unrecognizeable. Either that or until they lose everything they have, and that raw emotion pops back up to the surface. But with Brian gone.. I dunno. Jon is still the shit though.. hes producing some good shit.. he still cant sing like Maynard can, but hes gotten better. And musically, he is a production genius. For those that didnt know, he produced the entire soundtrack to Queen of the Damned. Including producing and conducting the symphonic and orchestral parts. That shit was beast. Long live KoRn. Whatever the fuck they do, is A-OK with me.
Lets see... who else sold out... Cant think of anything.
This next part is directed mainly at SlipknotPsycho, and possibly anybody else who might be able to comprehend the music Im about to introduce you to...
Have you ever heard of a band called Unexpect? It is an 11 person Supergroup, and the most musically fantastic and enlightening experience I have ever gone through. The bassist uses a fuckin 9 string.. theres all sorts of instruments.. but heres the thing: Every note they hit is so perfectly precise and on time you wouldnt believe it. And every aspect of it is so perfectly choreographed and orchestrated, it is just mind-blowing. To just about the entire population of people who listen to metal/rock/hell any music, it will be too much.. an orgy overload of symphonic orchestrated madness. But to the few who posses the mind to comprehend it.. it is life changing. Its a secret band for the most part, the world isnt quite ready for them yet, but in time it will be. Check them out on Myspace or projectplaylist.com.. The album, called "Un A Flesh Aquarium" Is a complete experience. If I remember correctly, its basically like a soundtrack for some crazy vision of somebody that went under for surgery and woke up in this crazy reality.. its absolutely insane. The vocals are done by a male and a female, and the female is so operatic, its like a female Maynard James Keenan, only with a more defined opera background. There are so many different musical inspirations that can be heard, that really all you can say is that it is a conglomerate of musical genres. It is its own genre. Check that shit out Slip, and any other musicians or music lovers that think they can handle it.

Its definitely an extreme band, but for those who are willing to try and distinguish all the different elements blended so expertly its worth it. It sounds like you are openminded enough to handle it ghosty, check em out! I wish I could send you the album because to truly experience it you have to listen to it in order from front to back.
NOTE: I have noticed a number of people who seem to think my name is Grazil... its Grazi :P The "L" is the beginning of the next word "Loves" lol (followed subsequently by the word Mary)
