I am doing a science project for my college and i need to conduct a survey.

The question is do you know anyone who has developed schizophrenia as a result of smoking cannabis?

Pleas answer truthfully, i am not in any way trying to change your view on smoking cannabis.

Personally I don't know anyone with schizophrenia (my mom is a little loony tho haha) and most of the people i hang around every day smoke weed. I do have a friend with tourettes syndrome, hes really awesome and one of my best friends.. in my opinion, weed helps him, but I dont know about schizophrenia.

You can't get schizophrenia from smoking marijuana. You can have the disease already in a latent form that could become active from pot, I suppose, but you wouldn't develop it.

I have disorganized schizophrenia, and it developed BEFORE I began smoking pot. For the most part, without medication and smoking pot, it remains relatively stable, I might have occasional "flare-ups" but they don't last very long. For the most part, pot actually seems to help reduce the stress that triggers the flare-ups, which is kind of funny.

no, pot can not cause a mental illness, it can only worsen existing ones

There is no such thing as mental illness.
There are states of mind.
What you call paranoid schizophrenia I see a closer view of reality.

But hey, some of us are insane and the others... politicians.

Using cannabis seemed to help. Don't know if they were that way before they started toking or not. Got a little bit of info for you to help with the paper (I'm a teacher's aide/ tutor and like to help).

Increased cannabinoid receptor density in the posterior cingulate cortex in schizophrenia. (http://www.medscape.com/medline/abstract/16710682)

UKCIA forum :: Research :: Symptoms of schizotypy precede cannabis use. (http://www.ukcia.org/forum/read.php?7,7543,7579)
Clinical Studies and Case Reports (http://www.cannabis-med.org/studies/ww_en_db_study_show.php?s_id=171)

They're all on schizophrenia and cannabis. One is titled "Symptoms of schizotypy precede cannabis use" - sounds like it is right down your alley! (Hope the URLs work OK- they were copied into another document and then cut and pasted to here- I'm a bit of a computer dummy, but I try! lol) Good luck on the paper, Zak!- Granny:hippy:

Not from cannabis no. But my friend did LSD and shrooms and it screwed him up. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia. He smokes weed and it helps him... thats what he told me out of the blue.

Just remember the effect he gets from marijuana is only temporary

Ive heard voices when high....but that was after a gram of shrooms. I have never heard of anyone devoleping it sfter smoking just marijuana. Harder drugs....maybe.

To those of you on the board getting schizophrenia and multiple personality disoreder mixed up- don't. Because they are definately NOT the same thing.

I have infrequent and minor auditory hallucinations; they're very clear and sound exactly like what I think I'm hearing, 4-5 times a day, like I think my phone is ringing or a stereo is playing or someone is calling my name, but I DO NOT (nor do 99% of other schizophrenics) have another split personality.

Just wanted to clarify.

Sorry dude, I know schizophrenia doesn't mean multiple personalities, but it was just meant to be a joke. Sorry if I've misinformed anybody there.

as you can see, the experiments shown here are neither complete nor concrete, but evidence is beginning to point towards heavy cannabis use before the brain is developed fully as an additional risk factor of causing schizophrenia
