Just curious if anyone has bought and used a prefabricated grow box. If so which one and from where did you buy it?
I use marijuana for medicinal purposes but really hate buying it from dealers so I want to start to grow some myself, but I want to keep it low-key so I don't have to explain myself to my kids. :hippy:

never bought one. But you could build your own cab from one of those flat white cabinets you get at target or where ever. Not all that hard and you would come out cheaper in the end. Some of the prefab cabs like the BC nothernlights one is a couple grand if iremeber right.

Deadhead, do you have access to clones?
The BloomBox is a really well made product, ideal if you have a source of clones. I haven't used one, but had a chance to inspect one... not my style, but good for what it is meant to do.
For a complete start to finish grow, I'd go for a tent such as the homebox XL and ask your local hydro shop to put together a package deal for you that includes he tent, lights, fan, ducting, filter, pots, and medial. An independent shop should be able to make a good deal for you.

I don't have access to clones. I was just going to buy some seeds and start from there. I have a huge basement and a few actual rooms and closets down there that I could start the seedlings with. That's not a problem. I just don't want it to get too big out in the open in case the kiddos start asking questions.
Are there shops like that in the Boston area? I'm actually a little north of boston. I'm kind of paranoid about asking around though just in case they get suspicious about what it's for. :wtf:

Oh wow this is exactly what I'm looking for!!! Especially since it has a lock to it! The Bloom Box (http://www.gchydro.com/DETAIL.ASP?PRODUCT_ID=BLOOMBOX)
The price is a wee bit prohibitive though. :(

Define "wee bit". LOL
A tent would be good - but you can't lock a tent. Take a look at HydroHuts - they're pretty cool.
The thing about the kids is, you need to vent your grow and that means fans and fans mean noise and once one kid hears that noise you know darn well you will get no peace until they are satisfied that they know what the noise is. So probably you should consider having a grow inside a room and just keeping the room secure.
...and maybe even a diversionary source of noise - something that you would be glad to spend hour upon boring hour explaining to the kids in excrutiatingly boring detail... you get the idea :D
Good luck!

wee bit = i'm willing to spend like $100. roflmaoooo. I did find that exact one on ebay for $500 though so all hope is not lost yet.
yeah i didn't factor in the noise. I actually have a cedar closet downstairs that is pretty big. It's a walk in closet but there is no ventiliation outside. The kids are both girls and are afraid to go down cellar because of possible insects so I think I'll be ok, but you just never know, you know? Especially once they start doing their own laundry...which won't be for a few more years I think.
I think I'll have to set something up in one of the rooms that has a window in it since sometimes the basement floods and I don't want a moisture problem going on.

So, in reality, the $3,500 price would actually be more like a tad prohibitive - as opposed to a wee bit. :D
The sad fact is that lights, fans and all the other stuff you need to grow inside costs money. $500 would actually represent a pretty low start-up cost.

Well I have a lot hanging around. I have a small fan which would do and I totally think the prior owner of my house used to grow since he has this portable light fixture on a chain down cellar that he left. A friend of mine planted a few seedlings already so there's 4 that have sprouted which she's giving me since her hubby would be ticked if he knew about them.
I have found a closet that has an electrical outlet in it so now I think I just need to buy:
1) fertilizer
2) 4 individual pots w/potting soil
3) timer for the electrical outlet.
I don't think those will add up to more than $100 but I could be wrong.
I sooo wish I could contact the guy that used to live here but I'd have egg on my face if he didn't really used to grow. When I moved in though I found rolling papers and a few playboys lying around in the basement. lol.
I'm gonna take the plants from her in about two weeks, which can't come too soon since there's a hole in one of them already. I've attached a pic. She planted them with some sunflower plants so that they wouldn't be too too obvious. lol

Take a pic of the light and post it - let's see what you've got. You should be in good shape if you already have a good light.

Trust me- they know what it's for.
Ya got a Harvest Moon in Foxboro, a Worm's Way in Sutton ( Worcester)- both chains, don't know how negotiable pricing is. Nothing I know of in/around Nashua. Good shop out in Holyoke.
See who Sunlight & Bloomington list as dealers.

Thanks! If I don't get my little closet going I'll look into those but they're kind of far from me. I'm in the Marblehead area.
so basically what you're saying is always pay cash ;)

thanks stinky. I think I'm going to just suck it up and do the drive to Sutton to Worms Way and see if they'll give me a deal. I only see the homebox light on their website though so I'll have to call up and see if they have the XS one which would fit inside my closet.
Does that store tend to give bundle deals like that or are they pretty much the type where you buy what the sticker price says it's for?
