I like unusual floor plans, like multi-level, or houses with a sunken room, or with a loft. I grew up in a house with a loft- they are really common in places where winters are very cold and wood heat is used a lot- the sleeping area is built to take advantage of the fact that heat rises.
My house now is a traditional 3 story Victorian, and my grow is on the 3rd floor... hahaha lots of carrying things up and down the stairs!
But my dream house is a chalet-style log home with a big deck, a giant stone fireplace, and of course the upstairs set up as a loft, leaving the living room open up to the roof.

Surrounded by thick forest with one drive way leading out to the road.. oh man i can't wait.. they are flying up next weekend to make the plans.. oh yeah did i mention 10 mins to the beach !!!!

Mine's got stories, and even what would be considered an in-between-level den/living area, and frankly, it's a hassle. Going up and down stairs. Vacuuming them. Chasing little animals around. Hauling laundry up and down. Trying to get others in the upper distant end of the house to hear you. I'd much prefer a one-story house, and my next one is going to be that way.
It's been my experience that multi-story homes always sound better than they live. The one big advantage is that most of the bedrooms are upstairs, which means the downstairs stays more clean and presentable.

The more the better lol, well i live in a two story myself and its better especially if you live with other people and you just need some space to be free and get away from them.

I like the fun ness of a 2 story with the ease of a 1 story, and I kinda got both- We have stairs that lead to a converted attic room, that is my hobby & smoke room. But all the laundry etc stays down stairs so the only real hassle is vacuuming the stairs and about once a year vacuuming the room. Thats all it need! Ashes rub in good ;)

I grew up in a ranch-style house(one story- real long), so I have always been fascinated with multiple story homes. I would love one! There is one single-family home in my town thats 4 stories, plus a basement. My dream house! Its gorgeous! I dont know about heating or cooling it, though. That could get expensive.

I wrote a pretty long post but then accidentally pressed the back button so this one will be very brief.
I like the open feel you can have with a two story home where the up stairs hall way is open to the downstairs. Thats how my parents home is. It makes the house feel bigger and it allows you to call up to someone who may be upstairs and they'll be able to hear you. I think laundry facilities should be on the same floor as the bedrooms.
My parents are going to build a log home for their retirement home. My dad told me they were going to go look at land soon. It's exciting to be able to design your own house.
