In the fall i will be attending a university and i think i wanna live at the dorms so i dont have to drive a lot and i just wanna live at the college get that college feel and what not...

but i have some questions bout them for everyone who has had that experience (assuming others have)...

well first one,
do you advise getting a room mate?? or just having your own... cuz right now im thinkin id like to have a room mate....

second..
how easy is it to have weed in the dorms/smoke in them.... like do they have people that will come around and search your room if they suspect it or anything like that.... cuz if thats the case i just wont smoke in the dorms and just have my stash hidden and shit....

uhh thats all the questions i can think of right now... and i gotta go to work, but ill check this when i get back or if i more questions...

thanks in advance for the people who respond with that dorm experience and shit....

I wouldnt smoke in your room until you've talked with other people who have lived in the dorms at the school you're going to go to. Some schools are stricter than others, and its good to figure it out through someone elses experiences rather than your own.

I'd invest in a safe, regardless of if you get a room mate or not. No one can look in something thats locked.

I dont know about the room mate situation. Mine kind of sucked. Some people form life long friendships because of them. Its a gamble.

Good luck with it. Next year will be my first year living off campus.

Like napolitana said, all schools are different and roommates can be a gamble. My university can go into your room and search your shit whenever they want, but never did. Occasionally they will have a fire safety check (so don't leave anything out). I was fine leaving my stuff in my drawer and my roommate had his bubbler between his TV and his wall, without any problems. I don't recommend a bong or blunt or anything that makes a lot of smoke, and set up a fan by the window and blow through a cardboard tube with a dryer sheet over one end (to kill the weed smell). All this is if you don't have a smoke detector in your room. I only had a sprinkler, so i was good but next year I'll have a detector so I got a vaporizer. I lived above and next to R.A.'s and never got caught (almost did once cuz the R.A. below me had her window open and smelled it).

P.S. I became really good friends with my roommate (he doesn't smoke). It's the luck of the draw. You can probably switch rooms after the first semester if your roommate really sucks.

you can tape a plastic baggie over the smoke detector.

or tape dryer sheets over the air condition vents. Then when the air blows through it puts a nice smell in the room lol

Living on campus is part of the whole college experience. In addition to the partys and meeting new people and having fun you will actually find it has some advantages to your studying and some disadvantages. People love to get together and study together and living on campus will help this but there are times you will want to go somewhere quiet to study. There are more points but these are some that come to mind.

Having a roommate is pretty good and sometimes bad. If you never lived with someone else you will find there are times the two of you will get along great other times you just wish they would leave, unless you hate each other from the jump. If you know someone going to the same school you may want to room together instead of getting on chosen for you.

If you live in a dorm you give up a lot of rights. Most can just come in and search your dorm room at any time so you have to be very cool with your habit. You will learn what you can and can't get away with. It will also depend a lot on the RA on that floor or wing or area. In general a resident advisor is a student just like you but gets his place for free or reduced to be like the hall monitor/assistant super. They deal with all kinds of problems from plumbing to noise to dueling residents. Some are cool, some are hardcore.

i agree with a lot of the above advice, but i want to add one thing -

be careful about keeping your smoking stuff in your dorm room - if you do, never leave anything out, if your door is open and an RA or someone in authority walks by and you have a bong in plain view, you can get busted. also, my school just started sending drug dogs through the halls - this is random, i think it happened 3 or 4 times this past year in each dorm (i didnt live on campus). but i've heard if you keep your stuff in the fridge, they can't smell it. i dunno, i never tried it - it might not work at all.

i never liked any of my roommates. i had three in two different schools. dorm life is what you make of it. sometimes its cool and you meet great friends, other times it sucks balls and you can't stand any of the people on your floor. the dorms are what you make of it though. get a fridge, and get a decent sized one, not one of the shoebox sized ones. also a coffee table is a good thing. i hope you're tolerant of all kinds of music, cause theres always some jerk-off blasting his rap music at full volume thinking everyone loves it as much as he does.

bottom line, the dorms are defenitely a gamble, you might have a blast in them and meet some cool ass people. or you might not know any of them and spend as little time as possible in them.

My experience:
I lived on campus with 7 roommates in a suite (2 people /room, 4 rooms, living room, 2 bathrooms) and I knew none of them when I went into college. I got to be pretty good friends with them all within the first week or two. It was a totally new experience for me because I was the only white guy, and only person that didn't know everyone else in the suite.

The thing about room searches is, the people that are searching your rooms are going to be RA's and campus security. RA's have been in your spot and know where to look. That being said get one of the stealth stash boxes for your stuff.
My trick was to become good friends with some of the RA's, smoke with some of the RA's, and party with most of the RA's. When some of the RA's were on duty a lot of the time they would hang out in my room with their walkie talkies so we always knew what was going on. I always knew when "surprise" room checks were going to happen, and whenever we had a party in my room as long as I answered the door we wouldn't even get a noise violation.

My advice for you is to find the RA's that are cool and become their friend. Be safe and try not to smoke in your room too much. Use a doobie tube. Only have 1 or 2 small bowls, bongs and vaps are just to dangerous unless you want to have a fairly bulky safe.

My weed dealer on campus would deliver to my room whenever he wasn't in class, he slept when I slept for the most part, and was good friends with me and my roommates so he was in my room fairly often anyway. He normally just had shwag, but if I asked for nug he would get it.

Bottom line is be as careful as you possibly can be.

My two suitemates/roommates who I smoked with all the time got caught winter quarter last year and almost got booted out of housing, but they were real obvious about it. They would leave their doors wide open with their hookah on the ground and pipes on the table, etc.

I smoked in my room all the time too but never got caught and i lived in the same suite. I lucked out with having roommates who toked too, so never had to deal with that stuff. Just be careful about leaving shit out, and use a doob tube - they are a gift from god

my roommate my freshman year sucked. she was nice at first, but grew bitchier and bitchier as the year went on. she was majorly into church, youth groups, christian music, worship, all that, and there's nothing wrong with that stuff, but it's just not for me. it didn't bother me at first, but the real problem started when she started pushing her beliefs on me. she would ask me to church twice on sundays, and once on wednesdays. at first i gave her excuses, but they kept getting stupider or just really obvious that they were excuses, and finally i was just like "i'm not going to go to church with you, it's just not my thing". she would always look at me weird if i came in late and she would be like "i'm praying for you". whenever she was listening to music, i would listen to mine with headphones on - i was always very courteous, but whenever i was listening to music and she came into the room, she would start blaring her christian stuff over my music. which is just rude. she would always try to get me to read the bible with her. i was never disrepectful of her, ever. i respected her and her beliefs, but it just pissed me off when she tried to push them onto me, and her rudeness was another factor.

random roommates are always a gamble

sharing a room is one of those character building experiences that no matter if the roommate is good or bad, it is good for you. if your roommate turns out to be a total weirdo or creep or whatever, you can change roommates (at least at my school you could).
smoking in your room depends on the school. i went to a fairly strict school that was trying to crackdown on the whole party scene so i never smoked in my room. i got paranoid enough just being in the dorms high cause i coulda gotten in trouble just for that, thankfully i didnt.
i wouldnt recommend having a bong or a vape or anything big and/or nice because they are harder to hide and would be a bigger disappointment and $ loss if they got confiscated. bubblers are perfect, i had one a pocket size i kept all year rolled in socks in my sock door.walked by dickhead RA's with it too so it worked out fine.

Actually, my first year in the dorms...I roomed with my friend from high-school, so it wasn't so bad [at first...but we kind of got at each other towards the end lol]. Also, another friend from high-school was around the corner...and the 'wing' I was in was 5 other dorms of people with 'requested roommates', so it was easy for most of us to meet and get along since we all already knew another person from HS.

So, I'm probably not much help with the whole roommate thing. Some people I knew got along great with their roommates, some didn't...but for the ones that didn't know each other [basically everyone except my wing]...they took a 'survey' before hand...so the school tried to match them up based on that, but it's still such a toss-up.

As for the smoking thing, it's going to vary on many things. For the first semester at my school, we were paranoid...so we would walk to the back of all the buildings to a path and smoke there. LOL, then as the year went on, we started less and less to give a fuck. We started smoking in the rooms...sometimes just me and my roommate, sometimes with others too. A fan in the window was key here...also Frebreeze and anything like that helps a shitload. Also, a glass pipe is a necessity...other ways of smoking don't work very well...although, we did smoke blunts a few times, but it wasn't easy haha.

It actually got to the point where we were getting very lucky sometimes that an RA didn't smell it [yeah, we got cocky], because sometimes our neighbors would let us know that 'the hallway reeks' lol, but then again, there were a few others smoking as well.

But yeah, after it all, never go in trouble for smoking...got written up for alcohol a few times, but it happens. We were lucky that we had a broken fire escape [that you're not supposed to use...if you got caught it was like 2 write-ups lol] to bring up booze.

Any more questions/concerns...ask away, but you'll have a good time...don't worry about that LOL!

PS: H4H...I was the one blaring the rap music...so my bad haha.
