View Full Version : No Sleep Experiment 07'

Okay guys...so this summer I've had many an all-nighter, most of which being induced from the consumption of multiple energy drinks and the ability to play 8-man gears of war with the guys on a multiple TV's and a projector (which is amazingly chill by the way, esp. after a good toke).
But that isn't important. What is important is that me and some of my friends have decided to undergo a no sleep experiment. Moreover a contest. Now, I know that a lack of proper sleep can #$% you up, so don't give me that. We're going into our senior year in high school and it's summer, so I can make up for this later....
It is 4:30 AM in my time (EAST COAST) and I have absolutely no plans of going to sleep tonight.
However if you are intersted in joining my us in our campaign, feel more than obliged to.
So far my no sleep count is a mere 14 hours, but we all recently woke up (after going to sleep past sunrise.)
Because this is the natural downtime in the cicadian rhythm, I am a little drowsy, but not that bad. I will keep you posted!!
... again FEEL FREE TO JOIN IN!

Also forgot to mention, feel free to post any previous all-nighter/no sleep experiences if you'd like, or share your techniques for defeating sleep.

Last April in NYC. I didn't sleep for 72 hours. My friends told me I was so out of it. I don't really remember much from it.
Oh and I did it without caffeine.

this past april, i went through a hell-week during the semester - several long-ass papers due, a few tests, and tons of homework, all during that week. i woke up on monday for class, and didn't go to sleep until thursday evening, except for the time where i dozed off for 5 mins while studying for a test. this was a bad idea though, because i also didn't eat much during this time because i was so stressed out, and by the time i finally went to bed thursday evening i was shaking pretty badly and i really can't remember much of monday - thursday. it all seems like it went by in a haze (and no that wasn't from smoking lol i think i only toked up once or twice because i was so fucking busy). thankfully i was able to get up for class on friday, but after class i went back to bed and didn't wake up until saturday afternoon. also, i don't really drink much sodas or coffee or anything, i mainly drink water. i didnt drink any energy drinks, i stayed up that long running off of my own energy. and i hope i don't ever have to stay up that long again, because it sucked.

In my opinion, going without sleep for a long time is almost like a drug-like experience.
Good luck man, keep us updated.

lol the first time i pulled an all-nighter was in 9th grade (i think...)to do some stupid project, and the next day at school i remember feeling really floaty, and not being able to properly comprehend things, etc. etc. so it was almost a drug-like experience haha :)

sleep deprivation has been used by north american indian shamans to induce altered states of conciousness. have fun and remember to eat well, take vitamins and drink plenty of water.
i used to do it back in the day. my cousin was always the one who wanted to stay up all night. my cousin was always the first one to pass out though.

I used to have to stay up all night for work.
So Friday all day I would load up trucks from 9am-6 pm or so.
Then at 3 in the morning I would have to go back to the farm, grab one of the trucks and drive down to Detroit to sell our loads of Flowers/Vegtables and shit.
And then unload the fucking things at 4 in the morning to about 6, then sell our shit from 6 in the morning to about 4 that day.
And that Friday night id stay up. And one time i played beer pong and smoke alotta weed.
By the end of Saturday with 2 Energy Drinks in me, coffee and a mountain dew along with tiredness I felt awsome but really weird.
I liked it.

Last time I went with no sleep was 3days of which I spent most of them smoking up and drinking. After walking home from some guys houseparty I decided to grab a bath then sleep. Great bath...but when I was drying my hair I thought I heard like a tank or something driving into the house...Freaked me out a lot so I collapsed into bed, never again will I stay up that long.....welll...

Dude probably already fell asleep. :p
I like staying up late, but never days on end. I, personally, enjoy a little sleep here and there.

going without sleep leads to psychosis, and combined with marijuana its not very pleasant. Caffeine is not good for you either and energy drinks contain sodium benzoate or some form of benzene which is basically the most carcinogenic substance mankind has ever known. Sodium benzoate is not carcinogenic, which is why they are allowed to use it as a preservative (also found in just about ever soda, mouthwash, packaged condiment and tons of other stuff).
The clincher is that when mixed with simple vitamin C (ascorbic acid) it breaks down into plain benzene which will in turn liquefy your insides (dramatization but the chance of getting cancer after exposure to any amount of benzene is about 10 millionfold of what it is normally)
So your best bet is instead of energy drinks (which help because they contain b vitamins and other nutrients and caffeine) is to get a strong multi vitamin. and some caffeine pills.
It's much healthier and you'll feel better and get better results too!
besides cutting down on benzoate or benzoic acid containing products there isn't much you can to to eliminate all exposure to it because benzene is found in car exhaust......meaning you're breathing it in right now.
I guess its a little comforting to know that either way you're going to die sooner rather than later ;)
most i stayed up for was 48 hours straight, i had to work for 17 hours with only a 1 hour break too, which was unpleasant.
I tried to smoke a cigarette and i passed out from it, it gave me the nastiest head rush and then i blacked out on the sidewalk in front of where i was working, they found me sleeping there about 15 or 20 min later...
No bueno!

we pulled an all nighter the last night of glasto when our coach was at 6 in the morning. The tiredness wasn't the problem but it was soooo fucking cold and rainy, we had to drink coffee just before our coach cause we were soo cold and tired

Its not really one of those things you plan on, and unless you have reasons and things to do all night when no one else is up youll just say fuck it and crash

LOl well when i used to play this game called runescape i would stay up for aaages lol, its really addictive!
I would wake up in the morning gou out come home at bout 7 start playing have sumfing to eat keep playing drink sugery drinks (your sugar level drops when your tired so try n top it up) Then the morning would come i would stop playing and then go out, if you stay in your gona end up falling asleep!
So yer go out for the day or just go round someone elses house (where you cant fall asleep) and then go home at about 9, try and eat as much as you can and drink allot, then just keep yourself occupied trying to achieve summing. So if its gears of war just try n get your gamerscore up or summing.
i used to be really good at staying up for ages but now i dont see the point lol, sleep is one of my favourite things in life :)

last summer i went a week and a day without sleep. i had stress induced insomnia. i would sit on the computer or watch tv until about 5 in the morning, make a big ass breakfast because if you dont sleep you get constant hunger and its near impossible to get rid of. then id just get a shower and go about doing what i would normally do, only my energy came from caffeine.
eventually i got prescribed 2 weeks worth of sleeping pills, after the second day i found out if you dont try to go to sleep in the half hour after u take it u get a really happy floaty stoned. and then it just knocks you out. good stuff.

hallucinations start around 40-60 hrs of deprivation. After that parts of your brain start taking "micro-sleeps" I have a book about sleep and there are some scarry stories. A trucker fell asleep in the desert drove off the road and drove 60 miles on salt flats before he realized he needed some sleep because he couldnt find the road.
