I've been working on this theory for a while and i think its solid.

so i figure that if ur under 40 you'll probably live forever. well, maybe not live, but defiantly reside on some sort of digital media. able to interact, socialize, think, explore literally hundreds of thousands of times faster than our current physical constraints allow us to.

Since 1930 we have basically invented the world as we know it. with the advances in medicine alone we have drastically lengthened the expected lifespan of a human, as well as greatly improved their way of life. This will all be a thing of the past, very soon.

Taking into account the huge leaps we have recently made in the field of human-computer interconnectivity (brain connectivity) (i.e. Brain Machine Interfaces (http://www.innovationwatch.com/choiceisyours/choiceisyours.2006.11.30.htm) ) and Moore's Law ( Moore's Law, The Future - Technology & Research at Intel (http://www.intel.com/technology/mooreslaw/) ) we can show that all our thoughts are just electrical signals, the "same" electric signals a computer uses. What's stopping us from storing or more accuratly "make digital" these thoughts, experiences, and eventually personalties that make us who we are.

In my opinion, this is the holy grail, the key to invincibility, the answer to all our questions and the resolution to all our problems. global warming isn't a problem if u dont need to have an atmosphere, we're guaranteed to find life on other planets... this is just the small stuff. it will be amazing when our brain doesn't physically limit our abilities to think and create and our bodies limit where we can go and what we can do. What im saying is, it took us 70 years to build the technology we have today. when u consider we're all like 20ish, whats another 70 years. thats assuming we dont blow ourselves up first... we've come pretty close a few times over the last 70 years.

and theres the age old question. will man's self destructive tendencies get the best of him? I hope not. I truly believe in what i'm writing. I am a devout atheist and i find great comfort knowing that maybe there is a chance of living forever.

if ur interested, there was a show on nova or one of the wgbh-hd (PBS) science shows that touched on the idea. defiantly worth watching.

How do u feel?

love the idea, and not to sure of possibility in our life time but hope it happens.

i dont see that as us all being computers though, as you stated in the other thread.

I would not object myself to that. I hate technology more than the government and the media. Technology is what the government is using to control underclassed society, as well as the media. So fuck that, but it probably will happen, but definitely not to me.

Oh and they use that thought reading technology shit already, very inconspicuously. If you know more than you should, you are being watched and you don't even know it.

seriously though, why is it so unbelievable. whats stopping us? i want u to try to debunk this idea... i sure cant.

err yeah. i love technology but you're gonn ahve to count me out on that crap.... i will evolve and feel as a normal human instead of meddling with all that... holy grail to you... but to the governments it will become the holy grail of mind control... ever seen the movie Serenity? .... think of something like that... maybe not all the zombie shit, but the govt. trying to once and for all insure peace and harmony...

just like the internet is now, the gvt will struggle to keep up with and regulate the private market. this may be the end of government control as we know it. as much as i disagree with the us government, i dont think the answer is no government. I basically just said nothing. i have no point.

They're not trying to insure peace and harmony, they're trying to maintain social classes, make sure they keep the people down and stay down. That's why they invented the "gangsta" society, they make the youth and black culture believe they have to act a certain way and dress a certain way to be accepted, giving them a mentality that they have to act a certain way that is not acceptable by higher societies so they never move up in life therefore insuring a working class that will be there and stay there. And they use the media to push these ideas into impressionable minds.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there. there is a huge difference between working class and "gansta". we'll have ganstas and working class people when were all computers. Its a part of society to have workers, people who don't work but through someones (or their own) hard work and certain fortunate events, have money, and then you always have the ones who leech and in no way contribute to the greater good in any other way that just existing. these are the gangsters, bums and other derelicts who will always be part of whatever society turns into.

ps.i know saying "when were all computers." makes me sound like a crazy person. maybe i should say, "when our world is entirely digital."

right but the media feeds these ideas into our heads and the government knows this so they use that to control society.

i was talking about in serenity... everything went to shit because the govt. in control tried to make the world a more peaceful harmonious place.... they completley killled one entire planet, and turned 10% of the rest into corpse fucking, meating eating zombies... only they're not like zombies... the only real attribute they share is the fact that all they care to do is kill... if you're dead, they won't even touch you (where as the typical zombie would see a meal) instead of calming that percentage it had the exact opposite effect... making them go into pure 100% rage 100% of the time... but with reasoning skills and everything of humans...

watch the movie and you'll understand what i was getting at (it's not a bad movie either) like i said i don't think any of this would have that drastic of an effect... but changing people like that would have some negative effect one way or another....

there's a quote that goes along with this.... i still remember it to this day just not word for word...

"there is no worse illness for a soul, then the idea of perfection"

you can't acheive perfection.... and to try, usually ends badly, very badly infact...

and you can't even begin to deny if science cracked a way to reroute brain signals and what not, that the govt. wouldn't put it to use 'for the good of the people' and change what they consider 'innapropriate behaviour'.... they wouldn't just use it on those who really need it (serial killers, rapists for example) but everyone....

maybe i'm being pessimisitic, but the idea of a 'perfect society' could never be reached.. and would probably have more negative effects then good... like in the movie... the drug they mixed with the air on the planet that died... well it made everyone just stop caring... stop caring about working, stop caring about eating, stopped caring about ANYTHING... everyone just sorta gave up on life.... it didn't have the effect the govt. was going for..

i really do believe this movie is relavent to this convsation tho.... cuz the two do have alot in common...

sounds like exactly what I'm getting at with the brainwashing and all, just with a different twist. I have that movie on my computer, I'll definitely have to take the time to watch it sometime soon, it sounds really fuckin good.

Sorry guys, but i dont want to see this thread get off topic so early.

My point is this, whatever our physical embodiment is, it doesn't change society all that much. Take the keyboard and mouse out of the equation... u could still use a computer if it picked up the way your eyes moved and in turn moved a mouse on a screen. Think about how much we are hindered by a keyboard... u can think faster than u can type, just imagine when all u have to do is think and the words appear on the screen. Imagine when your brain is the screen... imagine when you become one with the computer. total bio-mechanical integration. forget about society's issues, those are seperate points.
