Hi
Im starting bit late here but better late than never.
My setup:
Cabinet W: 19in, H:24in D:22in
125w ESL Growlight White/Blue spectrum Lamp for plant propagation and vegetative stages 6400ºK
125w ESL Growlight Red spectrum lamp for all plant flowering stages 2700ºK
Seeds: Big Bud
I started germination with 6 seeds. 5 of them came out and one died in few days. Now I have 4 plants in bigger self watering pots.
3 plants seems to be fine but one is starting to go yellow and the growth has became slower.
Pics in the next post.

Temperature is round 80-85 wich is basicly the same as my room temperature. Yeah. its hot here in summer
I dont think theres a problem with temperature. I read that when the temp is 85-95 plants grow actually faster if theres enough CO2 available. But if temp goes over 95 the assimilation stops.
I tested my flowering lamp and with that I can keep the temp around optimal 75 for thc production if weather out aint much hotter.
I give the plants basic nutrition about once a week.

That looks like a neat little setup, master. How does that watering system work?
Good luck with your Bigbud!

Thanks.
Wateringsystem works like this:
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/9827/ggggki0.gif
Benefits are that I dont have water it too often. For now about once a week is enough. But when they get bigger I think I have to water them more often. Time will tell.
Those tubes in the pics are for CO2. I havent got any CO2 tabs or bottle yet, so I have to make it that way.

Im planning to put a scrog on my plants and I was wondering witch hole size would be optimal? Also is it too early to start bending the branches? Plants are now about 2 inches tall and 4-5inches wide.
For curiosity, has anyone any experience growing Big Bud? Plants don't seem to grow much height. I have 1 plant outside and I dont now its brand, but its grown more heigh in only 4days than my BB:s in two weeks. I know that BB is not a tall plant and thats the reason I chose it, but still Im wondering the lack og height.:wtf:

to be honest with you , the size of your grow area needs to be alot bigger than what it is. now you have 4 big bud plants in hydro, i grew 1 bb plant in hydro and bent her 2 times, 1st time was at 4ft and the 2nd was at 6ft, when she was done she was over 7ft tall. now depending on your pheno type, with 4 plants growing at least 1 will out grow a 3x4 area. good luck

The grower who I bought the seeds from, gave me a estimation for the height of this strain to be around 17-22inches. I know my grow area is small, but if the seed growers estimation is right I shouldnt have huge problems.
And I can let them grow straight in to the lamp cause it aint hot enough to burn the plants. We'll see. I hope you're not right. ;)

my main cola on my hydro bb grow was 13in long. now if you will be vegging them for 4-5 weeks your looking at 18-24 in before you start to flower. iam giving you heads up on the plant. the name says it all.

not trying to scare you but it will be better to know now than to run out of space later and kill your plants. this is my big bud hydro grow @ week 8 of 12/12 and she is a 9-10 week plant.

Mobay is right......you'll never be able to accomplish what you want in a 2 foot space. I'd check out some other peoples grow logs so you can get an idea of how much REAL space you will need. These plants grow like monsters!

Isn't big bud named for it's large size and really large yield? Google the name up and check on some of the ads for seed sales.....they will tell you how large it is supposed to get. Unfortunately, unless you are growing lowryder, you will need more space. ;)

Seed banks lie sometimes. :) If you are starting from seed, you will have problems in a 2 ft cab, like has been already stated. MAYBE if you go from clone and flower them when they are newly rooted, you can get them into that size cab, but I highly doubt from seed.
In your first pics, you have yellow straws, etc. Is that your CO2 system? You took it out. Why? I mean, I personally doubt that it will help much with yield, because I've always had my doubts about those homemade CO2 kits. I have yet to see any credible data that it works, BUT maybe it just cancel out the effects of too much heat, which is beneficial, so why'd you take it out. I think that your CO2 setup was cool-looking at least. ;)

25th day. Three of the plants is growing great but one has some problems. Its getting the same nutrients than the others, same soil etc. Don't really know whats the problem. I gave it some extra Mg now to see if it helps.

Mg really helped for that one plant wich wasnt doing so good. They are growing pretty bushy and not much height (as I hoped). Bought some Captain Acids elixir for flowering and gave the plants first pre-flowering fertilization. Going to 12/12 in few days.

You really don't need any extra co2 until the later stages of flowering... just the air you breathe when you check on them everyday is plenty... Is you're flowering light a cfl too? And what kind of soil/nutrients are you using.
forcus master
07-26-2007, 05:39 PM
Plants use co2 for assimilation in its all growing stages. Normal air co2 levels in are about 0.035-0.040%. When co2 level is raised up to 0.15% the assimilation and growth speeds up. That is what is said. Dunno if it have any special effect, but it cant harm them.
Yes I am using cfl for flowering. 125w ESL Growlight Red spectrum lamp for all plant flowering stages 2700ºK
Soil is ph.6.7 special for self watering pots.
I had basic nutrients for growth NPK 6-1-5 and marine oxhylium.
For flowering Captain Acids 2 component nutrient.
Component A NPK 0.5-8-1.3 Mg 2.6% K2O 1.6% P2O5 18.3%
Component B NPK 0-22.6-28.2 K2o 34% P2O5 52%

It won't harm them but it'll be a waste of co2... fresh air is between 300 and 450 ppm which is more than plenty for your plants. if you were growing in a completely sealed cabinet that would be one thing. I would save your co2 tabs for about 2 weeks after the initiation of flowering when they start their rapid stretch... And also have you ever considered brewing beer/alcohol as a means for co2 production? I've been using that method and have had great results... If you can monitor it raise the co2 ppm to around 800 to 1000 shortly after flowering and let the temps come up alittle bit and you'll see a huge explosion of growth.

Well I got full bottle of those tabs and I've used this far about 1/4 of one tab :)
1 tablet per 250 liters of water, so those tabs are going to last longer than me ;)
I had alcohol brewing system at the start, but I got rid off it since I got those tabs. I didnt really enjoyed the smell what it produced. At younger age we used to drink that shit...

Little update. Good news is that at least one of the plants is definetily female. Two aint showing sex yet and one seems to male. That sucks cause its the most healthiest and bushiest one. Not given up hope yet cause its really early, but the difference between that plant and the one thats def female is obvious.
No pics sorry. I have to get better camera than my phone. Cant get sharp enough pictures with it. When all plants are showing sex Im going to lend my friends cam and post pics.

I took the male plant off. When pulled it of the soil I noticed that some of the roots had actually grown in to the water space through separator. Could it be a problem if some of the roots are in soil and some in water? The roots looked really healthy. Both in the water and in the soil.

So the natures selection was 2 males and 2 females. Took the males away and smoked them. worked pretty fine
Girls are now 12th day flowering and there are lot of action already. Havent got better cam yet so here we go with the phone ones. http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/4820/picture077ga1.jpg
