When the plants are small put them around 3 inches away from the stem, remember you want the drip to trickle down to the root mass. Which in the beginning is small but by the time you flower it won't matter where they are because you should have a big ball of roots.

yeah dont have it dripping actually on the stem!
its always nice to find your dripper rolled over like a dog and is dousing your baby
