Ya know, these new drugs really scare me...
New Drug Deletes Bad Memories - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20070703/sc_livescience/newdrugdeletesbadmemories)
This brings the movie Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind into reality...
On the radio a man was talking about a drug that 'stimilates the mind and body'(similarly to red bull?) and enables you to do things you never knew you could do. You shoot it up in a fucking syringe and they're giving tons of it away at radio stations... Their has to be side effects to these kinds of things but it was never announced, and I didn't catch the name of it otherwise I'd do my research on it...
These things seem almost unreal...

sounds like another one of those drugs that goes under the category of "creates more problems than it resolves"

I agree that these drugs sound like horrible ideas, humans cant seem to avoid dabbling in areas better left alone.
However... do you seriously believe science should be forsaken because of this??? I sure as hell hope not. What should take its place.. Religion? LMMFAO!!!! Wouldnt that be a bleak future!!!

This drug would be a godsend for many, I'm sure. People that have had physical or emotional trauma could benefit from it - it may cut down on other drug dependencies or self-destructive behaviors.
Anybody that is against medical help for people having pain and suffering, mental and/or physical, obviously hasn't been through very much, although I'm sure that they will insist that they have.

No science is important towards understanding life and because of it people have their painkillers so they can sit on cloud 9 and forget about their life. I just filled in the blank because honestly, I didn't want to name it "New Drugs" because it may get deleted.
I'm saying it's things like these that keep me up at night. That theirs a bunch of dumbshits somewhere thinking this is such a great idea! Let's delete peoples memories so they won't have to worry about anything! Now that this kind of thing is out there people will get a hold of it and use it for evil!

I think you've misunderstood the purpose of those drugs, Punk. They're not for the eternal-sunshine-spotless effect; they can be of real value to people who have serious post-traumatic stress disorder and find it disabling. Don't close your mind against that or against science.
They did a piece on "60 Minutes" a couple of weeks ago about a drug that's already widely used, propranolol, which is a beta-blocker that is used to tread high blood pressure. They have found that it has some of those same memory-blocking abilities when used in a specific way. And although it's not being allowed to be prescribed for PTSD right now, in testing it was an absolute God-send to people who'd been victims of rapes, traumatic crimes, and other horrors. Try and realize that there are people who have trouble going through day-to-day life because of PTSD. Certainly they deserve medical help if it's available, just like people with, say, diabetes or heart disease do.

Yes bird I understand this. You can't beleive what's on the big screen and I don't think that is going to become reality.
I'm just worried about those that are going to be negatively effected by these. People shouldn't get used to the idea that when something bad happens all you have to do is get it erased.
I beleive that whatever these people were selling on the radio is a scam to get people to buy shit that they don't need at jacked up prices and in order to get them hooked they're giving it away free. This is no medication type of drug, it's a money making drug.

well that would be true if the drug works like they say it supposed and right now it looks like they are just in the early stages of development and even if it is considered "safe" can we really trust that it is. the fda lies just as much as bush if not more.

Hey who cares about prescriptions.. who cares about problems.. who cares about ANYTHING.. nothing matters or means anything anymore because we can just take a friendly pill at the end of the day and completely forget everything...
Damn! I just saw heard the football results on the radio.. I was recording the game to watch later at home... shit. *Lightbulb above head* Aha.. no worries, ill just take a smiley pill so I can forget those results... I might wake up in three weeks time up a fucking tree in Oregon with a condom stuck up my ass.. but at least i'll be able to appreciate that football game :)

Near as I can tell from having actually read the article, this drug doesn't eliminate memories- it allieves autonomic stress symptoms associated with these memories. In other words, you still remember the bad thing that happened, you just don't throw up when you think about it.
Sounds like a lifesaver for someone with PSTD. And for their loved ones.
