I have had my tongue pierced twice and i am a girl. i do not play with it, and it is only for pleasure. I now only have one because two that was just way to much metal inn my mouth... i did change it to soon but it has healed since then and my tongue is back to normal. i wasnt to scared because its next to impossible to get an infection in your mouth.

i take very good care of my mouth lol. numerous people told me that its hard to get an infection and not to over do it with mouthwash and shit while it was healing but your probably right.

I changed my lip ring a little too soon and got a slight infection, which luckily cleared up on its own with normal cleaning. I was also cleaning it TOO much..not giving it time to heal. The difference between my lip and your tongue is that your tongue is a muscle and an infection in your tongue is going to travel a LOT quicker to your blood and such then my lip..

Your mouth is EXTREMELY dirty..think of all the germs you're breathing in, everything your putting in your mouth..cigarettes? weed smoke, drinks, food, sticking your tongue out, ect..ya dig?

oh and do NOT use mouth wash with alcohol. Do not rinse with peroxide or anything like that..it'll kill the "good" germs that help it heal..

I had mine done, a few minutes after getting it done i went to the pub and was drinking Guinness through a straw, had a few whiskeys and spliffs then had a vindaloo later that night, it hurt like fuck for months because i did pretty much the same thing everyday and did pretty much everything else your not supposed to with it. then when i was smoking a few dubies it would feel like the bottom of my tounge was tearing open and it kept on happening every time i got high and i got high pretty much everyday it was horrible then when i was on the bus i bit it and the ball came out and i tried still a jellybaby in it to keep it open, that was 2 months ago and my tounge is still fucked up! I'd say don't get a lounge piercing if you are going to do what i did! being in pain because your getting high is no fun!

I love my tongue peircing, and so do all my lady friends.

I havent heard anyone say anything about me having it at all, so thats a first. Id tell those who are ragging on you about it to kiss your ass.

The peircing itself hurt less then my labret, but the swelling and lack of use made it more annoying then the labret, at least then my lip was just slightly swollen.

Right now I am waiting to replace the peircing itself... thing is too damn long, but it makes it fun to play with if nothing else.

I used to have my eyebrow pierced in 2 places. After I got them pierced I cleaned them every other day like recommended, both piercings got infected. Not badly though.

I'm a guy as well and I was actually of the opinion that a dude with a tongue ring loves to give blowjobs, but then I asked a female friend about it and she said that back home she knew tons of guys with tongue piercings (one guy had three!) and it was perfectly normal - and made for a good conversation piece. She also has her tongue pierced and she said that after the first week it wasn't a problem, as long as you kept it clean and stayed away from acidic fruits and Coke.

After we talked about it I got to thinking. It's something to play with, something to talk about, not very visible, and has a rather obvious sex appeal. Therefore, as soon as I can get to a piercer I'm getting my tongue and nipples done. I'm not worried about the piercings themselves, but the week after that I'll probably be in a world of pain. I just got my tongue and nipples done about four hours ago. No swelling yet, which is wierd to me, because apparently it's supposed to swell up right away... of course, I did take Ibuprofen beforehand. It was a great experience - the woman who did it and her apprentice were really friendly and fun to talk to, and the place was a lot less "hardcore" than a lot of other shops we'd visited. I was the only person getting a piercing done so it was nice and relaxing. And yes, nipples hurt like a son of a bitch, but almost all the pain goes away in a few seconds. Now I just need to make sure that I remember to do maintenance and not smoke for a few weeks, and I should be fine.

I've been diligently doing maintenance and keeping it clean all week. Any tips on what to do or eat or take to get rid of the swelling faster?

Eat ice...I had the same problem, but the ice helped the swelling go down. I've had mine for five years now, so I can take it out for monthes, and put it back in with no problem. I have one that looks like a pill sitting on my tongue...it's cool. My hubby jokes all the time about how we're gonna get pulled over and the cop is gonna think that I'm trying to swallow pills or something and put me in a choke-hold...lol. That wouldn't be good:)

Do NOT rinse with listerine, or any mouthwash.

Normally they will give you some solvent for use in keeping your peircing clean, but ever peircing place that I know of tells you not to use Listerine when you get your lip, or mouth peirced. I used bactine for my lip because they were out of the H2Ocean, which I used when I got my tongue peirced.

The ibuprofen really does help though.

And stay away from noodles, and trying to pick stuff out of your teeth with your tongue for awhile.

Aye, all my research says that Listerine is a nono - I didn't know about the dairy though. And I'm on so much Ibuprofen lately. The swelling seems to be finally receding, and now I'm realizing that I have a lot of metal in my mouth. Good thing I'm getting the barbell swapped this weekend (if the piercer okays it).
