I think we should have the ability to close our own threads and delete our own posts and take off what ever pictures we don't want uploaded anymore. Some times people make mistakes and upload things they realize later on they don't want on the internet, like a few pictures of my face that can still be found. If admins don't feel like deleting them I sure would if I had the ability to.

Well, to be fair, if you knowingly post a picture of your face, we assume you know the risks (if any for some) of doing so. It's a "no take backs" kinda thing. We can't have a bunch of indian posters running around here....

You can't just post something then want to take it back..lol it doesn't work like that. You don't want pics of yourself on here, it's simple: don't post them. When you post here, as discussed in the past, it becomes property of the site....it's not yours.

As for closing your own threads...well, you can always request that a mod close your thread if nothing more needs to be said. I'm sure any one of us would be more than happy to do so if we see fit ya know, and it HAS been done in the past. For future reference, if you're unsure about posting something, lol, just don't do it!

I don't seem to understand why we can't. It's not that I don't mind the rule, and you can't change history after all, but I always wondered why it's the way it is.

Also that could easily be avoided, for example when you click delete thread you would have to confirm it or something.

anyway i didn't expect or i really wasnt bothered if it happened or not i was just wondering what most people think.

to an extent yes... i think maybe a certain limit would be in order...

but it'd save mods alot fo work.... regaurdless of what we post, there are people/threads eventually someone comes along and needs it closed...

i only say yes cuz it'd save mods alot of work... but a high limit between, would definately make people think twice about what threads to edit (btw, if this was instigated, and for it to work it'd also mean a person couldn't ask a mod ot close a thread for them...)

i dunno, just my thoughts.

This other site I am on, when the mods close threads they give notice, like this thread is going to close at midnight tonight or something, so if there is something pressing you want to add you still have time to say it.

TheGreenFog

Closing your own thread...I think I would agree with. Deleting it...well, I guess I have come to understand that that would ruin the continuity of the information. There would be so many gaps in the info around here. Pics, at least grow ones, etc are up there for everyone's info, and if they are deleted, how will others learn to grow? ;)

Plus, people would be complaining that their post count was not correct because people kept deleting threads with their posts in them, rep...etc.

Guess you just gotta be careful, eh? My picture is in my profile. LOL

It would be nice to be able to give notice BUT there are times when you can feel the intelligence just draining out of your system by having the damn thing left open. For the sake of the community.......CLOSE THAT THREAD!

just thought i would weigh in...

i dont think it is a good idea, because people could just run the boards then...imagine how many people would post and delete and then all the ones who would abuse this....

frankly, the idea of members being able to moderate themselves is scary...i know not all would abuse this, but some would, and in this case, one bad apple would spoil the whole bunch.....

meh....im sorry....

Princess i never said delete i just said close, therefor no one would lose any posts or rep at all.

Also I dont see why people would abuse it.. Why would a bunch of people start threads and then close them unless their noobs but they can easily abuse the site by spamming and starting threads so why not closing them it just makes it better really.

We should be able to close a thread but only for a fee, say $2500 per thread, payable to me!

Coelho
07-03-2007, 11:21 PM
Well... i think after somebody else posts in a thread started by you, the thread is not more only "your", because it haves the opinions/comments of another person too.
As i think nobody haves a "greater" opinion than anybody, if there is a thread with, lets say, 20 replies, then all the 20 persons that posted in that thread are "owners", in a certain way, of it. Or, lets say, have the same "weight" in that thread.
Thats why i think nobody (even the thread starter) should be able to close threads. Only if it were with agreement of everybody that posted, what would be difficult.

cannabis campbell
07-03-2007, 11:59 PM
Yeah thats why i said CLOSE and not DELETE

It's not fair to delete the posts that others have contributed to the site just because the thread starter wants to. We all have to realize that when we post on a website, it gets on the internet. No going back. Think before you post.
I would like to change my screen name but it appears that I can't. Same principle. We have to deal with it.

On the other hand, you moderators need to have the same mentality. I posted a joke that implied that jews were cheap and it got deleted from the thread. Give me a break. How many jokes are there about jews being cheap? Did that joke really need to be removed from the thread? Let me get this straight, this website is about growing what we're not supposed to by law, but you want to ban my joke? That is even funnier than the joke itself. :D

I hear what your saying but our thing is to try to keep the place mellow for everyone. It's really to bad that some can't take a joke for a joke but you KNOW someone is going to be offended. If there are jokes about jews then what about blacks, asian, homosexuals, etc.....

Each one of us just tries to use our best judgement on things of this order and kind of watch for car crashes in the making. Something like a joke of this order brings on posts by people feeling insulted or hate Rep which then splashes on the forum. Sooner or later we eventually have to clean up the mess.

I appreciate you coming to the forefront. Was the joke that offensive to you?

First off I tracked your history back to Dec. and gave up on the search. LOL...you must have a memory like an elephant!

Next, coming from you probably not because I know your not some racist. To me it's not really the joke but who's telling it. Was it meant in fun or just to be an asshole? How could we judge it?

That's one of the reasons why we just have to draw the line. I recall a member getting a bit racial regarding blacks in here and I gave an infraction for it. I then received and e-mail from that member stating that he was black so the comment should be cool and left alone.....I sure can't tell what race a person is from this side of the monitor and I'm sure many others can't also but one things for sure; somebody would have had a HUGE issue with the comment.

You were in a movie with him??

Which movie?

I was in the movie that he received his big (only) award. The scene was filmed in NYC. By the way, I'm not saying that I had anything to do with his award winning performance. Ironically enough, I was cast for another one with him, but showed up to the set late and was left out of the scene I was cast for (under a bridge in Harlem). At least they let me hit the buffet table. :D

Physco4Bud,
How can I forget? It's my only infraction. The few times I've visited my profile page, I've been reminded of it. Jokes are jokes. Personally, I don't have a problem with Jews. After all, I follow one.

Is it true that elephants have good memory? Even the ones that smoke pot?

definitely no. it too much resembles treating the site like a personal hard drive. But mostly, the internet is meant to be an unregulated frontier, in which information is free and not manipulated to accomodate preference. If not, it wouldn't be as diverse and unbiased. We have too much arbitrary influence on mainstream media, it's a rare and singular thing to have something like the internet where truth can be told from all sides from all points of view. Being able to revise info once submitted is not in this same spirit, and could lead to more overt manipulation.

no, the question wasnt should you be able to close others threads. that should never happen with the pissing contest and things like that that happen sometimes. i think however that you should be in charge of your own threads, like most any other site. and yes there should still be moderators to keep things under controll when they need to be. jmho

no if u think about it, like with me when i found this site i knew nothing about the site or weed for that matter. and i liked all the info i found on here, but when i started posting it's because i had ?? on how to do this or that not that i really wanted to post. not like "it's a plant" was saying well u knew the risk and all that. i really had no choice but to if i wanted to know the answers.

so it 's set up, to kindda put u on the spot of do i chance it and post or not? i don't think it has to be that way. there has to be a way around it like a temp post forum were people know the info can come and go, and more set up and geared to where the people that are just lookin for that lil bit of info can go post find the answer then delete it. i think it would help out alot not the whole website, but just 1 open forum like "temp posting forum, or something or atleast be able to delete ur pics thats the main thing, if the open forum is to much to do. cause sometimes people can't really help with out the pics to see whats going on, but it's not like u want to post them u know. and the whole well u knew better, is not all that fair to say as somepeople and places it's perfectly legal to have/ grow whatever. and then there the other places like most of the usa is illegal to do any of it, so thats my thoughts on it.cause most people come here for knowledge and end up risking themself in order to get all the knowledge they are looking for. and i don't think it has to be that way.

and im not sure how it all works, as getting caught on here i would go i think that it would'nt be hard for fbi/cia or whatever to hack into this site and get the info they were looking for, but i don't see that happening unless they were trying to find out info on a certain person, they were lookin at but i don't know so....
