I use them for cooking but you need to use TONS....about 3 times as much to come close to decent bud. You'd probably have to smoke the same amount to get anywhere and the high wouldn't be worth it really.

Some males have resin, but it's not much, and anyway it's pretty rare. Resinated males are named, loved, treated like a member of the family, kept with great care as breeders... google "Space Dude" sometime...
There's NO point in trying to smoke males.
Males make pollen.
Females have calyxes meant to receive pollen. That's where most of the resin is, on the surface of the calyx, and clusters of these things make up a 'nugget' or bud.
Most people will never see a fully flowered male. here's a bunch!

foxy breeds, and keeps these fellas alive for thier pollen.

...but with no luck so far.
I gave up and keep them locked in a closet until it is time to perform.

Yes you can! Back in the days before our weed - our ancestors used to smoke strictly the male plants. They didnt know about polenation and budds. Nowadays people are much more educated about pot and know to seperate males from females. Even outdoors a male can polenate a female from many yards away. Males are good for many things, 1. Oils, 2. Baking etc.. But not my first choice of smoke. You can help sex the plants by additives and growing procedures. Ive heard that giving the plants 24hrs of light for a long time will help produce more females, but Im not 100% sure.

Wait..
Is it inherently a male or female plant, or does clipping off the males as they bloom determine it's sex?
Now I be confused.

OK, lots of mis-information floating around on this seed/sex issue ... a seed is genetically pre-disposed to one sex or the other ... additives, grow procedures, etc., do NOT determine the sex (I can feel some of you reaching for your keyboards, be patient a few seconds :D) ... the seed will sex as it was pre-determined, BUT, bad growing conditions can STRESS the plant, and nature will attempt to protect it, by reversing its sex to male ... reason being, the male plant is hardier, more able to withstand the abuse ... males normally do NOT reverse to female, although there are possible, RARE exceptions (in 40+ years, I have never seen a male sprout female flowers, but, I mighta been stoned, and missed it ) ... simple as that, all the SuperThrive, and other 'wonder tonics' etc., will NOT make your plants female ...
in my opinion, 'feminized' seeds should be avoided ... just grow out your seeds, select a healthy female and clone it ... most, if not all, 'feminized' techniques introduce hermaphrodites (both sexes) into the gene pool ... BAD ... and, it's a 'BAD' that spreads from generation to generation ... "protect the future, destroy all hermies!" ... :smokin:
