View Full Version : First time growing concerns?

First grow ever.. Using smaller pots at first, plan on moving to something larger soon.

Don't have a camera, nor the money to afford one anytime soon. However, one of my plants, 13 days since planted, has very droopy leafs, they're not firm at all.

Is this normal, or is it a lack of hydration/over hydration?

Anyone got some advise, or should I just let nature take it's course.. As much as nature can work with a high powered light bulb.

Which, because I'm planning on growing small plants, just a few small ones to make a decent sized harvest, I'm not using a whole lot of light. Just *one* of these :

But mine is much much much brighter than that.

Should I up the light source, or could the one I have now be too much, and what's causing the leaves to limp over.

Also, in terms of total growth, after 13 total days since planting, my main plant (I planted him a day or so before the others) has two fairly large 'pot' leafs, then two medium sized ones inside, and then several smaller leafs, adding up to a total of 10. How's that for total growth; fast or slow?

Thanks in advance, everyone here on the C.com cultivation section seems to be very helpful.

Hard to tell without pics and more info. Sounds like overwatering. What kind of medium are you using. If it's one with fertilzer already mixed in in may be too much for them at 13 days old. Lights s/b fine at this stage.

Just pure potting soil, there's a good bit of.. I don't know what you'd call it.. Like.. Compost? Really old tree bark, plant stems, stuff like that. I'm guessing it's compost though.

I assume there shouldn't be any fertilizer in it though, but I'll check the bag when I buy some more.

I only sprinkle a little bit of water on them daily.. I guess it may be too much.

Sorry about not having pictures.. We had a Canon for a good bit and then it started doing this stupid error that apparently ALOT of Canons do.. Like I said, too poor to buy a new one.

With overwatering, the leaves are usually both limp and yellow. With underwatering, the leaves are usually just limp. Try sticking your finger in the soil. Is it moist?

Underwatering usually isn't a problem for first-time growers, but if you're just sprinkling a little on, that could be it. Have you watered until it starts dripping out the bottom yet?

One nice thing about underwatering is that when you do water, the plant perks up right away.
