Lima beans wasn't on the list so I put peas, even though I regularly eat peas. I just think that Lima beans and peas cooked wrong taste exactly like chalk.
And okra cooked wrong tastes like boogers. Not that I know what boogers taste like :wtf:

out of the list, cabbage... it stinks, it's disgusting.. but when iw as locked up i did eat it... you can't really afford to pass up food in there.. you never know when ther'es gonna be something so horrible you just can't eat it, or something so small it does nothing for you.. (i.e. a single small slice of meat loaf and mashed potatoes) so even if i hated the shit i'd just eat it faster..

but squash.. omg yuck, i can't stand that shit.. i'd rather eat 5 heads of cabbage then eat one small squash....

other then that i love pretty much all vegetables... never actually tried brussel sprouts.. and believe it or not, broccoli and okra are my two fav vegetables... i could eat both all die and be happy... (although <.< i doubt the wife would be very happy when the gas starts hititng me)

that reminds me... cucumbers are pretty nasty too... well not nasty... they don't have alot of flavor but i hate the flavor they do have.. and even when they're cooked they still feel half raw....

i'm really big on flavor and texture... more texture then flavor tho... some textures just make me wanna gag... lol like ever get a burger and stick it in the fridge and warm it up later... the texture of mayonaise/mustard/ketchup (w/e is on your burger) drenched hot lettuce makes me wanna gag alot...

Brussels Sprouts probably. Never could try something that smells like a fart when you cook it. Everything else on the list is great. Off the list, I'd say okra, lima beans and black eyed peas. Corn really sucks when it gets into yer teeth though.

I simply cannot...I repeat....CANNOT stand collie flower. I don't know why, but even seeing it makes me gag and choke on my tongue.

On an unrelated note, border collies don't bother me at all. I was a Lassie fan after all.

Brussels sprouts are, to me, the worst. I also don't like peas. And I don't really care if I never eat another green bean in my lifetime. I think they're utterly boring and go out of my way to avoid them.

I like broccoli, salads, spinach, asparagus, okra, cabbage, zucchini and pretty much everything else. Oh! Except for beets. Those go on the no-no list, too. When it comes to several veggies, particularly broccoli, carrots and cauliflower, I prefer them raw to cooked.

You've never had okra, Jim?

Okra - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okra)

It's good, but a lot of people hate it because it's sorta slimy when you cook it. It's good cooked plain, or sliced and fried up in cornmeal, or sliced and cooked with tomatoes and onions. We Southerners eat a lot of okra.

Jim M
06-29-2007, 01:36 AM
cool, gotta try that soon... maybe its just an Irish thing but I never even heard of it before.... Guess you learn somethin new everyday, huh? :)

birdgirl73
06-29-2007, 01:41 AM
Oh heavens, you're Irish. No wonder you don't know what okra is. It tends to be a temperate vegetable. But as diverse as Ireland is getting nowadays, I suspect you can find some in one of the many Indian or Middle-Eastern restaurants--or one of their groceries--in the big cities.

We Southerners eat a lot of okra.

one of the many reasons i tread lightly when passing through the south.

yes we do and fried it's one of my favorite side dishes... i'd rather have it over french fries.... in soups/stews it's unbeatable... :p and i absolutely love chewing up the seeds really well... i love the taste... it's kinda weird... it's kinda bitter but at teh same time it has this cotton mouth effect... but i just love it..

and i hate cotton mouth and hate bitterness.. dunno what it is.

i wouldn't... i mena it don't take a genious to prepare it... but if someone doesn't know how, it can be rather disgusting.. it's kinda of hairy (never notice it when it's cooked right, or cooked at all) and it does tend to get kinda slimey (think tomatoe innards but alot more sticky) and it's very easy to over cook (again, like a tomatoe, it's very delicate)

=/ i wouldn't want someone to get turned off it.. if you plan to get it and try it.. get it at a resturant or something :p don't do it yourself... i mean again, it's my 2nd favorite side dish, but there is only like 2 people that i know that can actually cook it right, and a couple resturants... but then again i probably have high standards since it's one of my top favorite foods... the only people ever been able to do it right are my wife, and my mom... (i was never really around her either, so it's not me growing up on hers and only liking hers)

I like fried okra better than French fries, too, Slip!

Jim, if you get okra in an Indian or Middle-Eastern restaurant, it's going to be a spicy dish with lots of seasonings that may taste unfamiliar.

If you fix it yourself, here's what I recommend. Wash it well and trim both ends. Slice it up in about 1/3-inch cross-section slices (don't slice it lengthwise). Saute some chopped onions in butter or olive oil (or a mix) and then add some drained, diced canned tomatoes. Then add in the sliced okra and cook that all together till the okra is soft and tender. It's very good--and it's very good as a side dish with rice and/or fish, chicken, or ham. Plain cooked okra is usually done whole, but you really need to know you're an okra fan before you eat it that way. That's why I recommend okra and tomatoes for a first-timer. Of course, if you like Indian and Middle Eastern seasonings and spices, especilly very hot, spicy dishes, try it at one of their restaurants. It's in season now.

asparagus is terrible. peas i hate i never have a spoon to eat them with and they dont sit right on a fork. also they taste like crap except when done right in pasta or something. cauliflower is the closest i think we get to actually eating a fart. brussel sprouts are bad too but i am almost never in any situation where theyll end up on my plate.

And olives. How could I have forgotten olives? Green or black olives are absolutely my most hated vegetable by a long shot. I hate olives with passion. The nastiest thing to ever grow on this planet. Far worse than okra, and okra practically gags me. How do people stand olives? So disgusting. They even leave the taste behind when I pick them off my pizza. Olive oil is one of my favorite things to cook with. But the olive itself is freakin' nasty. I can't help but to grimace just thinking about the way olives taste. Blech. We need a vomit smiley.
