View Full Version : Will you donate your organs when you die?

Personally I'll donate anything they can take from my body, anything to help out many fellow human beings. I mean think of all the death and suffering you can prevent simply by having a donor card! Yet for some sad reason, I just saw a news report that said something like only 18% of people are organ donors. That just seems really sad to me when organs are in such demand.
When I was in grade 12 my english class had a discussion about it. There were about 30 students in the class, and when we voted who would donate their organs only me and about 6 other people put up their hands. The only reason others gave for not donating was "I just don't like the idea, ya know. I wanna be whole when the burry me". I mean JEBUS FRICKIN CHRIST, how selfish can you get? Condemning several people to death or shortened lives because "I don't like the idea, I wanna be burred whole". If you have religious or other relevant reasons, that's cool, but I would hope at least my stoner friends here would be more concious about the subject.
So any opinions on the matter? Who's donating what?

Sure, why not sort of keep living vicariously through someone else?

I'd donate my organs probably, but not sure yet. I want to be straight up burried in the ground I think. Give life to some plants.....

I will absolutely donate whatever they need, if I haven't ruined them ( I'm pretty sure my lungs are out!) When my mom passed away, we donated all her organs. I found out that also meant her skin! I guess they use it for burn victims and stuff, but that creeped me out a little bit. Kind of weird to think I could walk next to someone or meet someone with my moms skin on! Oh, well!

Obviously nobody here will be giving their lungs... :bonghit:... but I do wish to donate my body to science. I might be up for organ transplant but I would more prefer donating myself for research purposes, like for instance I wouldn't mind donating stem cells (which can be extracted from cadavers up to three days after death).

personally, im not sure. i mean on one hand. the person JUST died, wouldnt you think their organs are old and worn out? but if its something like a shooting or an accident, and a 20 year old is dead, then why not use whats good? could make some families really happy.
You don't have to worry about it, the professionals can figure out what's good for use and what's not. Even if the organs can't be transplanted, I'm sure they could use it for research of harvest stemcells or something.

Do you believe you pass on to the next world retaining your physical form? I'm not going to argue, believe whatever you want, I'm just curious.

no one knows where you go or what happens but I was raised to belive that when you die you will leave to the next world as yourself
im not really sure why but in my family it was always considered a terrible thing to remove anything from the body after death

i would definetely let them take my organs, its not like im going to need them! anyway there are lots of people out there who really need organs. just remember when your lying in a hospital bed and you need a new liver or something its going to come from an unselfish person who didnt want to let you die because they "want to be buried whole" so if your not donating organs:chainsaw:. now im going to :smokebong: and :giggity:.

i think it great that people donate to help others, when i'm gone they can take what they like it wont be any good to me and maybe they will give a discount when they cremate me 1/2 the body half price.

i don't get how it wouldn't be acceptable for religious purposes, i mean, if there was a god, do you think your judgment would be weighed more heavily towards how many of your organs are intact, or that you let your last fleshly remnants be donated to another person, prolongating their life to carry out god's will? i suppose it depends on your religious beliefs, but i think that no deity would punish someone for lack of organs if he donated them to save another human life.
i'm not religious or anything, i voted that they can take whatever organs they find useful.
i'm a little baked right now, sorry for rambling :p

i seriously doubt there will be anything worth using. this body has seen far too much hard use. i'm an alcoholic (not a drink for the last few years, but....) chain-smoker who has done everything to excess and i'm still looking for new ways to abuse this poor old shell. i'm rather surprised i haven't popped a major gasket yet.

When they find THC in your system, you can forget the fantasy that you'll be giving some kid your heart, or anything close to that. But don't feel sad. They'll definitely use your body for obscene experiments, that they save for cadavers that don't pass a drug test, and therefore, have no other use.
I don't mind, though. I'm fucking dead. What do I care?
P.S.
The ultimate for me, would be for me to become a stand up skeleton display, at some university, like in a biology class. I'd get to chill with the class everyday. People would decorate me for whatever holiday was going on, (I'd be fun at Halloween time. :D ) All kinds of good times.

i'm a heavy drinking, heavy drug user (or atleast was) and a heavy smoker.... doubt they'll find anything worthwhile :p but i'm one of the few who doesn't care what happens to their body upon death...
shit, a bunch of prisoners could use my body as a toilet :D i don't care.

Yes most likely.
Saving other lives is more important than my organs rotting in my dead body.

everything but my eyes. Those are the only things that I dont like the idea of someone else having. Yes that does make me selfish.
I think organ donation is very important. My dad donated a kidney to someone he worked with this past winter. This guys family was so grateful that I dont understand how anyone could not do the same.

Hell no, I hate the human race. I think the majority of people are pieces of shit who don't deserve to live. The thought that one of my organs could save the lives of one of these people...well thats whats stopping me from being a donor.
If I was in need of organs I hope no one would donate them to me, just let me die.

They can take any and every organ or individual part they need. Even for your hard-drinking, -drugging, heavy-smoking types, you'd be surprised what they can use. Bones, bone marrow, corneas, skin, heart valves (maybe). They can use more of your internal organs when you die young and healthy, say from a quick ruptured aneurysm or a motorcycle accident head-injury, than when you die of ripe old age.
I don't plan to donate my entire body to medical science. I have no illusions about that, although I appreciate the folks who supplied themselves as cadavers for my first-year anatomy/physiology class in med school this year. The "research" that's done is crude dissection and examination by a bunch of medical noobs. Those donated bodies don't enhance hopes for a cure for cancer or other diseases. They let first-year med students look at musculo-skeletal systems, livers, lungs, hearts, blood vessels, and pancreases, among other things. It's a necessary thing, but it's not very dignified.

hell no i wont donate anything then if you ever get in a serious injury and they see your an organ doner they'll just pull the plug on you so someone rich can get the organ...its just another way they make money
Oh come on, that's one of the oldest myths in the book! Doctors, paramedics, and nurses are trained and take an oath to do everything in their power to save you. Some paramedic doesn't care who gets your organs, they just care about doing the job at hand. They'll put hours of effort into savings meth-addicted hobo's, serial killers, rapists, it doesn't matter. I'm sure donors aren't number 1 on the death list ;)

There's always something healthy they can pick out, or use it for research man. Let the doctors decide what's valuable!

Nope, but I dont think I could anyway. I mean, I dont know if the chemo and radiation and all that other stuff affected any of my organs.

Although I plan on donating what I can, it kinda bugs me how it works out. I mean, it's like donating your car to a deal, they get it for free but they sell it for bank. I wish their was a contract that you could sign that would make sure my organs were give without charge of product. . .
