View Full Version : 120 volts or 240

I understand that using 240 volts for lighting will draw less amps, but I was also told it would be cheaper on the bill. Is that right? It seems that since it is still using the same amount of watts the cost would be the same, since they charge by the KW/h. Am I just stoned and missing something?:smokin:

I've been looking into this situation for a while now and here's what I found
The short answer is that the 240 will save you some money on the bill but it will be marginal as far as power consumption if any
The real benefit is that the 240 converts less to heat so the ratio of electricity vs useable plant light output is significantly better than the 120
That being said if you go with a 240 digital compared to a 120 digital you will only save a few pennies on the bill but you will get more growth with the money you spend for the electricity but all in all I'd doubt it's even 10%
So as long as you can do the wiring yourself for the 240 go with it especially if you have heat issues...but if ya gotta get an electrician the cost would probably outway the benefits.
Hope this helped.
PS I'd say the lumatek digital 600 or 1k regardless of 240/120 is your best bet

Thats what I figured, not worth the $ to run 240 to the room just for 1 600 watt light. Thanks.
