Today I had to go to the grocery store and to the hydroponic supply store. So I went to the grocery store but I did'nt buy anything that I needed to take home immediately. So my plan was to just continue to the grow shop from the supermarket. However, when I got to the road near my house, I decided that since I had not smoked in about 30-45 minutes, I needed to swing by real quick and get high (don't drive around with the stuff if 'ya don't have to).

Anyway, I went inside the house and was washing out my bong when this dog started yelping at the top of his lungs outside. I could hear it over my computer tunes that were turned up really loud. So I looked outside through my window and I saw this kid standing there with a leash in his hand. I could not see the other end (the dog end) of the leash, but I knew, of course, that it was the dog yelping there. I have seen this kid around before and he is retarded, I would say severely; but he is standing there crying for someone to help him, saying, in that voice we all know, "someone please help my doggy, oh, oh, oh"! So I grabbed my cel phone and ran down to him.

About this time another neighbor ran out and was saying that she had just seen a white pick-up hit the dog, but the driver just kept going. Now the dog was on a leash when struck because the dog was still on the leash. How this happened, I have no idea. Can you hit a dog that is being walked on a leash - in a 15 m.p.h. condominum residential zone and not know it? It was laying there bleeding and defacating, and this kid was coming unglued - and it was just awful!

Okay, so the dog and this kid are freaking out and I had to do something! So I took my shirt and began to wrap the dog up. The dog immediately stopped moving and rolled over, as if to have it's belly rubbed, before it realized it needed to lay differently to mitigate the pain; and from that point on just laid there looking at me and still shaking, but collected. When that happened, this kid started crying his eyes out and saying, "Thank you, Mister, for helping me"! Thanking me in that voice - that slanted and twisted, yet blankly innocent and oh, so sweet voice.

So I put the dog and the kid in my neighbors car and the neighbor whisked them away to the vet. The dog will be fine. The kid will be fine. I don't know if they will find the driver.

I'm just thankful that I could be utilized as a human being at a time when I was only thinking of my selfish habits! THAT, is how we are used down here! ;) rock on, stonerz....
