View Full Version : Exercise & Diet Section

I was wondering if we could get a section dedicated to exercise and diet.

People could ask questions about what exercises/workouts would work best for specific things like say losing wieght, or building upper body strength. People could come to get info from other users on where to get started etc. It could be general questions.

Diet is a very important part of exercise, they kind of go hand in hand. What types of food to eat, things to drink, supplements/vitamins depending upon what you're trying to do.

I don't know, I'm trying to explain it the best I can, but it seems pretty self-explanitory. So yeah. So admins please tell me what you think on it and let me know if there's anything you need from me. If you don't think we should have one, no worries.

I think this is something that can be very productive and beneficial to users on this forum. If anyone agrees with me and wants this section, please voice your support, I would appreciate it.

Easily one of the best ideas I've ever seen proposed on this site. There is a Medical/Health, so maybe it could be a sub of that?

This is actually a productive and beneficial suggestion like you said, unlike most on here.

Not saying smoking trees is very unhealthy, but it can and does lead to unhealthy practices in a lot of people...not eating right, being lazy, unactive...basically proving some stereotypes to be true. Not putting this up wouldn't be the end of the world for me personally, but I think it can be a good thing.

It can be a great thing. There is so much garbage in the media about how people should diet, and exercise. It'll be cool for people to share knowledge about diets and exercise, the possibilities are endless and you learn something new everytime.

I'm excited about the possibility this forum is going up. Yeah I'm an exerciseaholic and it sounds like I need a crack fix, but put this shit up!

This is a very good idea, especially as us "lazy unmotivated stoners" eat so much with the munchies.

I'd be crazy to disagree with such a proposal. Like the many before me, I really like this idea. It would mesh perfectly with the Medical/Health section; a sub-forum would be ideal. Members could share their stories, routines, habits, get suggestions, ask questions, etc.

I'm all for this.

See with that section up, I could tell you how to use munchies to your advantage. Rather than making you fat, it'll make you strong.

Well, i have an almost balanced diet, it's only the munchies that are putting on the lbs, i mean, im 15 stone, and most of that is my arms and legs [i've got alot of muscle, used to cycle alot and did alot of weight lifting and such] so im thinking, if i do a bit more excersise and cut out the munchies i'll be alright. I mean, i dont need the munchies, i just choose to eat. So for the last 2 days i havnt been eaten when i get stoned, just at lunch and dinner.
3 stone is easy to loose though.

I think 60 press ups with my back is impressive - i would do sit ups but that's out of the question, tried one last night and nearly snapped in half.

Well one this one ab exercise, it won't be so strenous on your back.

Lie down, put your hands under your lower back for support. Raise your legs with a 90 degree bend at the knee. And slowly lower one leg, and bring it back up. Repeat with the other.

Lovely! I'll give that ago tonight. Cheers mate!

I remember when i used to be pretty fit - i used to be the example in school.

I supose i just gave up with everything since i did my back in, i assumed the push ups would be the only thing i could do without being in pain, so that's all i did do.

I supose 10+ pints of beer a day doesnt help - it's not me getting drunk, i just have a beer with most of my joints, i drink it like water.

Anyway, cheers for the advice man, maybe one day i'll be brave enough to post a pic on here somewhere.

Yup beer is killer for your gut, but if that's what you enjoy, hey =)

But there's alot of things you can do, even with a limited back. Don't really have the time right now cuz I gotta head to work, but when I go to the gym, I'll try to remember some exercises you can do with an injured back and try them out to see how strenous each one is. Then I'll post about them and you can try and see how well you can perform them!

All right, I got a couple of exercises for you.

1. Calf raises. Stand half-way on the balls of your feet on some steps and raise your heels so you are on your tip-toes. Slow raise them up, and lower them. Repeat.

2. I don't know how bad your back, so don't do it unless you are comfortable enough to do this one.

Lie down on your stomach. Raise one arm and the opposite leg as much as you can, and lower, and switch. It'll help a weak back, but it could aggravate your pain further.

3. Partial Plank. Lie face down on mat resting on the forearms, palms flat on the floor. Push off the floor, raising up onto your knees and resting on the elbows. Keep your back flat, and tilt your pelvis and contract your abs. You don't want your ass to stick in the air.

Try these 3 first, and let me know the level of pain on your back, and if you can do these, I'll suggest more.

Can I vote "hell yeah" for it twice? I'm all about a diet and exercise forum. I love cooking and would like to have a motivational source for exercise. It'd be excellent to get some healthy recipes for munchies that don't include magic brownies and stoner spaghetti. And if a bunch of other stoners start talking about exercising, I might actually do it. So yeah, I believe it would be a hit. I'll post there if you make it. Hope to see it soon.

I tried them all, and i can do the 3rd for the longest amount of time. I can do them all, but the others make my back twinge after a little while. But it's doing something LOL, that's for sure.

I've already lost like 2 lbs in a couple of days just from not eating when im stoned.

But thanks for the ideas man, i'll keep up the healthyness - hopefully it'll pay off and i wont come out the other end crippled LOL.

Thanks for the support everyone  Glad to see we already have a few actually discussing some exercises.

Right now I'm just running for exercise, but I've kind of been falling out of that. I have been helping people move recently, that in itself is a workout (especially in the middle of summer). But I need to get back into a strict running routine and I want to start working out my arms.

Do you guys know any simple exercises with/without dumbells that I can just start to work on my arms (biceps & forearms). I just want something to get me started a little before I really get serious about it. Thanks.

And Admin(s) (or mods, I don't know what say you would have in the creation of it...), I would like to hear what you all would have to say to it? Can we get some input from you guys? It would be appreciated, thanks.

I have the classic Homer Simpson build, but with hair.
I eat a balanced and moderate diet.
My problem is pain.
My back is so screwed up, that some days I can barely walk, let alone exercise.
I know from experience, and my doctors agree, that if I had regular chiropractic, massage, and physical therapy, I could lose weight, and live a more pain free life.
But my insurance won't pay anymore.
No more physical therapy, no matter how many times my doctor refers me.
No Chiropractic either.
Massage? HAHAHAHAHA! No.
So I keep slowly gaining weight, and the pain gets worse.
Thank God for medical marijuana. Otherwise I'd be passed out on pills all the time.

^^ AR15, pushups and chinups are great for building upper arms. I picked up a piece of conduit yeasterday to make a chinup bar. If you have a couple pieces of heavy furniture close together, you can also do dips. For forearms, try doing pushups on your fingertips. Or get one of those squeeze thingys. There's also isometric exercise. Try pressing your hands flat together in front of your chest and try pushing both ways. Also clasp your fingers and try to pull them apart. This helps your chest and back as well. There's all kinds of stuff like that you can do.

Hey thanks 420, good advice. I don't have a place to do chin ups, but I definately can do push ups. I think I'll just start doing sets every other day. Leave the off day for my muscles to rebuild. How does 5 sets of 20 sound to start?

It sucks, I used to have a boxing bag I could use but atm there's too much stuff around it. I'll try the push ups on the finger tips, but I'm probably gonna have to start with my arms a little far apart. Hopefully I can move it in closer later.

I think I'm gonna go see if I can find some cheap dumbells. Keyword is cheap because I'm tight on cash, bah, whatever though, I'll see what I can do.

Anyways, thanks for the help, much appreciated 4twentiE :jointsmile:

*another bump*

yeh, anything going on with this? since skink left, we need some thread space for food talk. i also recently started regularly cooking again, and working out occasionally further stoking my interest in this exercise and diet section idea.

^ and yeah, no prob AR15. they say do upper body one day and lower the next. that way you're not letting your body really get lazy or whatever. you keep up your stamina and let your body rest all at the same time.

if you can start a routine at 100 pushups a day, you're doing pretty good. most people i know couldn't dream of doing 20 without learning to do one first. when in jail, we'd just make a point to do 100 pushups throughout the day, no matter how many at a time. the next day or two, 150 pushups. the closer your sets are to each other, the more stamina you get out of it though.

oh how i wish i had a punching bag. great exercise and fun. yeah, don't break your fingers trying to jump into the fingertip pushups all at once. Bruce Lee could do them on his thumbs only, but i'm sure he worked up to it.

if you find any creative exercises with those dumbbells, lemme know. i can only think of a few to do with mine without a bench.

peace
