View Full Version : Fine with gays but dislike flamers: wrong?

I'm completely tolerant of homosexuality, and I have no problem at all if a guy just happens to be attracted to other men.
However, I've found that flamers annoy me. If you're gay, there's no reason you have to make a big deal out of it and be a limp-wristed fruitcake who talks in a high-pitched voice. I mean, homosexuality doesn't vanquish your testicles, so your voice should still be deep, right?
Most gay men are ordinary people who go to work, wear a suit, and don't make a thing of it, and that's totally cool. These fucking queens, though, really put me off; I thought of this because I met the flaming friend of a female friend of mine on the bus Thursday night.
Now, is this wrong of me? I always treat people with politeness and respect, and I would never make my irritation known, but I can't help but inwardly roll my eyes. Am I a bigot, or do I just prefer it when gay men act normal? I'm kind of confused here.

I agree completely with you. I have no problem with people being gay, but I do have a problem with flaming queers who make sure without a doubt that you know there gay. People who force you to acknowledge their faggotry and then call you intolerent when you tell them to chill out, are just as bad as the christians who are trying to force their beliefs on everyone else. Gays are always going on about choice, how what they do isnt anyone elses business, but the fact that we are forced to put up with their antics and are even punished by society for calling them out, is just another way of censoring us and not allowing people to say what they truly feel.

i agree.... completly i have no problem with the fact that gay people like other men but when they need to go above and beyond to show that there gay and all that stuff you described then yea it annoys me a little i dont care who you are or what gender you like but if u act like that then i wont like you
Exactly, man. At first I felt horrible because I thought that maybe I didn't like the guy because he was gay and that I was an intolerant pisshead...
But then I thought...guys like that aren't true gay guys...I mean, they obviously are, but it's like you know how a true stoner just smokes weed because he likes it and doesn't feel like he has to conform to any kind of act...that's what I'm talking about.

Yep i know what you mean theres nothing wrong with people being gay and everyone knowing but.. why advertise it??
Why talk in a womanly voice and walk and act like one??
Maybe its because so many of them feel like theyre a woman trapped in a mans body?

I don't buy that. The body you have is the one you were born with and the one you are destined to have: the universe doesn't make mistakes, I don't think.

There are guys, who aren't gay, that have the same problem. "Why does everyone think I'm gay just because I walk around like a flaming homo-?"

..I hope this doesn't turn into a debate with any spiritual crap. But I must say that being born male or female is pure chance and mistakes are made all the time. Hell that's how evolution works, reproduction isn't perfect and mistakes occur a creature with a hindering mistake would die out and be less likely to reproduce, the mistake/mutation that helps them survive better makes that creature a success and they pass it on to their offspring.
There are people born hermaphrodites, people born at birth with both genitalia, often times the parents will choose a gender at birth and they will surgically correct the problem. However the choice they made might not be a right one and when that child grows up they might realize it should have been another one.
It makes perfect sense to me that if nature could create a blunder at the halfway point, it's fairly likely nature could make a complete mistake and have a female be born a male or vice versa.
I agree with the topic to a point, I think some gays are trying too hard to be gay instead of just being who they really are. Though I don't think all "flaming" gays do it on purpose. There is other factors, such as who they were raised by, who their friends were as children. I mean if you have a gay man that didn't have any father figures raised by his mother and only had girl friends. He is going to be very "female". Hell even straight guys with a similar background are very "female".

Whatever. I'm not insecure about gays, flaming or otherwise.
Who cares if they're flamboyant?
Why are they any different from make up caked bimbos in high heels?
They have the right to express their personalities any way they want.
Seriously, I'm way more annoyed by beer guzzling Nascar fans and football hooligans than by gays, no matter how flaming.

I had a drag queen friend once, and he disliked prissy guys too. When he was "he" he was just one of the guys, but when he was "she" she was an outgoing girl unless you knew better. He had a lot of stress from not knowing who he wanted to be.
Just so you know the other side.
On Topic; I was kind of intimidated being around Kiki La Rouge, his drag name, and am also uncomfortable around most drag queens. I dislike "fairies" and avoid them, though I don't really care how they choose to live.

i am kinda weird when it comes to homosexuality.
if we're talking about homosexuality in political terms, then i fully believe that a man has the right to marry a man (and the same for two women) and i think that whatever two men do in the privacy of their own home is their own fucking business and that the government should fuck off and never tell a homosexual person what to do
if we're talking about homosexuality in mental terms, i think that most homosexuals really don't have control over it, that they don't "choose" to be gay, just that the other sex doesn't "put it up" for them
but if we're talking about what if a gay person is standing right next to me, then i have to admit that i'd be creeped the fuck out. on a personal level, i find gay men to be utterly repulsive. i'm not open or vocal about it, but i definitely think it's not natural and i disagree with it.

Yeah, maybe they can't help it, but whatever the reasoning, the bottom line is that I can't help that it annoys the shit out of me. If you're gay, that's cool, but if you prance around I just think "man, that's not how a man's supposed to be..."

Don't fear gay people. they are just like us. Cannabis users can learn a lot from the gay community.

I don't HATE them...I'm sure a great many people irritate you without you outright hating them, which I think is a very strong word. And, however preachy some pretentious dude gets about how everyone's the same, everyone just has to face the fact that some people are just annoying.
And yes, I don't think a gay man should act feminine. If all gay men just acted normal, there wouldn't be these negative stereotypes of them; the queens ruin it for the normal guys. I have a friend who's gay but doesn't flaunt it, and he gets irritated by this, too.

lmao I dont give a shit either way. The only thing that will make me dislike a person is ignorance. I dont care if they look like Mr. Universe and act like Fran Dreshner, as long as they can communicate without being an ignorant tool, were good to go. I might even give em a reach-around while I plug em in the ass if they ask nicely enough :p lol but in all seriousness it doesnt bother me. I do start to get uncomfortable when a gay dude keeps hitting on me after I told him to stop, but it doesnt happen very often.

I think it has more to do with not liking a certain personality type than anything else. I'm all for gay people, but I do dislike most "flamey" personalities. I say most because there are 2 people I know that have that personality that I actually like, and one of them is straight. I'd say I've met about 5 people in total with flaming personalities, and 3 of them I just couldn't stand.
So I wouldn't be too worried about how people perceive you, I hate people being too politically correct. The fact that you ask is quite telling that you're trying to look politically correct, but yeah, I wouldn't worry :D

I don't think there's anything abnormal with you finding some gay men to be a pain in the ass. *snicker* I'm annoyed by certain people in minority groups all the time, not because they're in minority groups but because they're annoying.
You're wrong though, about the universe making mistakes. They happen all the time, and I'm sure you'd feel a lot different if the universe fucked you over.

I don't mind queenies, but they can be kinda funny hehe, its their lifestyle choice that they wish to lead which keeps them happy, its not mine and I have no right to do anything about it.
The only thing that does bother me, is the stereotyping of Homosexuals. No we are not all Queens, No we are not all emo. Im gay and everyone thought i was strait because as they put it "Well you don't SEEM gay / queeny". My best friend is strait as hell, but has a bit of a flamey personality, hehe, its really kinda cute.:o
As long as a homosexual man never tries anything with me, whatever..
Just because someone is gay, doesn't mean that they will forcibly try to "Make a move" on you. Thats just silly and immature. Then again, you might have been giving off a "gay" vibe in which you provoked the approach of the *DUN DUN DUNNN!!!!* "gay man"... All you have to say is "I'm sorry, but i'm strait." in a calm respecting way.
Damn, I just don't understand homophobes. If your strait, then you have nothing to worry about, were not some kind of sexual beasts that will ravage you when your not looking... Maybe a hug, but thats all. :)

as most people have stated sometimes a persons masculinity/feminity is not something they can controll. i generally shy away from queenie people(actually only the obnoxious ones), but have met some both gay and straight that i like alot. example: im sure there are smokers out there that i would not be associated with if you had the best pot in the world.

well I agree with you, but have you met those really camp guys that actually seem as straight as a masculine man? I guess it's the opposite of what you said....

because they aren't just gay, they want to be a woman... for people like that it's a little deeper then sexual attraction.... probably has something to do with hormones/estrogen...
i don't really got a problem with either... but don't get mad at me if i laugh at you... sometimes the feminine acting people (gay or not) make me laugh... even in stand up comedies when some guy is imitiating a female (like john leguizamo) it's just... 'strange' and i laugh at strange things..

What sexual preference somebody has doesn't bother me. As for "flamers" they don't bother me in general. If a "flamer" comes off as annoying then I would avoid him just like any other annoying person. Some people who act like that make me laugh, everyone has their uniqe personalities.

I honestly couldnt care less about who fucks who. But the overly flamboyent gay men annoy me. Having a flamyboyent personality is one thing, but to base your personality and everything you say and do on the fact you are gay is just silly. Some throw it in your face so abrasively. I was bowling and there was a gay couple literally rubbing each others cocks through there pants a couple lanes over from me, and when asked to leave they went on a crazy rant about everybody being homophobic. I would have been just as uncomfortable had it been a man and a woman, and im sure most of the people there at the time would agree.

i felt like adding another point. I dont mind the guys that feel they should have been born a woman, and act very feminine and flamboyant, but there are some people that try a little too hard to be something they arent, and whether they are gay, or they are from the suburbs trying to be ghetto... whenever I see somebody striving to be something they arent and can not be I feel bad for them, but not really annoyed. It usually doesnt apply towards gay people though for some reason. And I guess Im not sure why I posted this. Maybe for the hell of it. Maybe because I have 20 seconds left to type something and this is what I wanted to type... oops times up...

The only problem I have left with homosexuality alltogether, is the guys that will literally harrass me. I just feel as though, as a man liking women, I would not pursue a woman after denial. However, I have met over a dozen homosexual men, who actually get away with "harrassing" other men, IMO, simply because society has been,...almost afraid of being misinterpreted as a hater.(Something I hope doesnt happen to ME because of this post) Does that make sense to anyone? gays are the same as anybody, if you feel they are harassing you sexually then tell them where to get off. those are called trolls in the gay neck of the woods. even in a leather bar full of hot naked sweaty men, it is not ok too persist where you are not wanted. this happened once and all i had to do was tell the bartender about the troll in the bathroom, and he was escorted out the door. serious. there is a line between funning around and being obnoxious. lol, we try to keep our atmosphere as clean as possible too. it is not anti gay to say that you do not want to get somebody off! we will protect each other.
