... and she's getting rid of her nasty carpets... finally!
Oh man they were so fucking nasty.
Ugly doesn't even begin to describe the 40+ year old harvest gold textured short shag carpet in my living room.
It's been wee'd on by GENERATIONS of pets- the house has been a rental property since c. 1950- no evidence of EVER having been steam cleaned, and when I ripped it up I found that there's the equivalent of several boxes of carpet fresh powder underneath... and what looks unnervingly like asbestos tile. Because that shit sho' ain't vinyl!
So here are some pictures of what Stinky has been doing all weekend. Enjoy... I didn't!

Oh duh I am such a spazz! I forgot to say, I am replacing the carpeting with parquet. That's hardwood in a basketweave pattern for those of you who haven't seen it. I actually do NOT like carpets, at all, yuck. Dusty, hard to get REALLY clean, no matter what color they are you ALWAYS end up going..."uh... shit. That's NEVER gonna match the sofa.. it looked different at Home Depot".... I'd rather do wood floors and oriental rugs.

sounds very nice ^_^..I've always been a fan of hardwood floors...but you'll never catch anything other than nice Dark thick carpet in my bedroom...I dunno...In my old old house the floor in my room was tile and it was just so damn cold winter mornings...
did you find anything of interest under the carpet?..lol..small advanced civilizations?

Actually under the attic carpet when I tore that out last year, I found that they had used newspapers as carpet padding... I saved them... they are OLD! Seems that my town has ALWAYS been duller than a box of blocks; this isn't a recent development.

Several years ago I was having health problems. I was always coughing, my throat was raw, and I could hardly breath.
At one point, I asked my landlord to replace the carpet in my place (it had been there since I moved in, almost ten years).
When they came to remove the carpet, there were beautiful wood floors underneath. I told the landlord to skip the new carpet, and I'd keep the wood floors. He said no, because they were damaged and he didn't want to pay to have them sanded and polished.
I told him I didn't care and didn't want the carpet, and that he could do whatever he wants after I move. He agreed, and I got the wood floors.
In less than a week, my lungs were clear and I could breathe again.
It was the carpet that was making me sick!

funny, because since i've had my house, every year in late march ive gotten sick- this year i had bronchitis for almost a month. i definitely think the damp in the air, combined with old nasty carpet, and my mold allergies, weren't helping things a bit.
