In my opinion, anyway. Whenever I try to listen to music that came out after the '70s were over, or, more specifically, from a band that was formed after the '70s were over (Pink Floyd, for example, released some good shit in the 80s/90s...), I just can't stand it.

This is pretty weird, and no, I'm not a 50-year-old who can't accomodate new styles...I'm 16 years old.

Not hating on your style of music or anything, but I seem to have the opposite opinion. I just love underground hip-hop, and rock. Not to mention bands like sublime were post 70's and many people consider them one of the best bands of all time. It just depends on a mixture of what kind of instruments you liked topped with what style of lyrics.

For example: for me, I have no problem listening to a song if its just for fun, just a party song, talking about smoking and having a good time with buddies.

I know a lot of people however who hate music like that, and they prefer more lyrical depth or different styles of music, it just depends.

I agree. 1980 was the last year that had both great movies and great music. The world has been downhill ever since.

The 90s were pretty kicking and somewhat made up for the 80s, but as far as rock music in the 2000s goes.... well.... rock has seen better days. i do enjoy hip-hop, however. :D

I hear that, man. I'm not saying anything post-'70s is devoid of merit, I'm just saying that I am unable to appreciate it; my taste cannot accomodate it somehow.

I think you really have to listen to more music if you think everything past the 80s suck.

I think some amazing bands are coming out with amazing stuff these days.

You guys are crazy if you think no good music or movies have come after the 80's. You need to broaden your perspectives.

There was plenty of crappy music before 1980 too.
Sonny & Cher?
Donny Osmond?
Meatloaf?
Pat Boone?
John Denver?

theres a lot of good shit being released today and was a lot of bad shit being released back then. mainstream now is worse than it was then, you have to a look a little harder for the good stuff. do a little research before saying something like that again, because it makes you sound like a music snob. not even that really, more of a guy who wants to be but really doesnt have any frame of reference.

Guys, guys....I'm not saying it sucks.

I'm saying I can't appreciate it. I'm stuck in the 60s-70s.

Wtf? I know a ton of people who don't like anything from before the 90s and I don't bash them for their opinion. Music snob my ass.

And yeah, like someone's really going to do research on post-1980 critically acclaimed music...either you like it or you don't.
