View Full Version : can there still be a test?

So I'm starting an internship at a company on the 18th, and I'm not sure if there is going to be a drug test. There was no mention of drug testing on the application for employment, and after being accepted there was no mention of drug testing on the follow-up paperwork (W4 form, direct deposit, etc.)

So my question is, is there still a chance of a drug test? My "start date" is Monday the 18th, so I'm assuming that I'm good to go, but this is still bothering me.

Has anyone out there been required to take a urine test even after they have been hired? Or do they always take care of that before the start date?

My main fear is that I will walk in and they will ask me to go to a clinic to get a drug test before continuing. Am I just tripping excess balls?

Thanks. :hippy:

P.S. I have a bottle of ready clean detox and I'm not going to blaze this upcoming weekend (along with drinking tons of water), just in case.

I would say that you're fears are definitely founded. I was in a similar position. I had procured an internship and was hired by this company. I had recieved my first schedule and EVERYTHING. And just as they are giving me my new passwords to access the systems ... turns out I can't get them without a DRUG SCREEN. I think that you've got the right idea. Don't smoke until you know for sure. And if you do have to test, SUBSTITUTE -- there's nothing worse than getting a job and then having it taken away because you're test results deem you as a pothead. Totally sucks. Good luck!

Assume the worst, hope for the best. If you can't get your hands on an employee handbook then look around for the words "Drug Free Workplace" on the application, website, things on the wall etc. This usually means drug test.
