View Full Version : Question about Rep - for a mod

I've interacted in a very positive way with another user here and on one of my posts he sent me Rep along with a "thank you" for some info I gave him.
But the box next to his comment on my user control panel is black, not green.
Does black not signify negative rep?
This particular user has less than two weeks membership. Does the black box have anything to do with this?

No it means he's fairly new and his rep doesn't have as much backing as compared to someone like Skink for example

Black I think means no rep points at all because they haven't got enough posts or been here long enough or hasn't enough rep themselves. There is a thread about new members and priveldges.
From the Modfather and the new member privledges thread.
Thou shalt not give rep until 50 posts and 2 weeks account activation.

I always perceived black as disabled rep..you still receive it and can see it all in user cp, but it just remains one black bar.

Well why did I lose rep when I got a red rep mark? I lost like 10 points one time?

Also, how long does it take to spread rep to the same person again?

Adjust the color scheme on your moniter, or gently bang on the side of your computer.

Honestly, while the idea is nice in principle, it can easily be abused, much like the "warn" feautre in AIM, which eventually was axed do primarily to immaturity. I personally have my rep disabled because someone blackmarked me because of a difference in opinion. While I'm vain enough to hide the glaring red, I'm not too vain to go trolling for points with clever or witty posts/replies in every new thread just to boost it up to green. But I'm close....
