so much more than a gas staion....they have food in there..and man is it good! next time you see one go in and grab a bite to eat.....they have touch screen menus and the food is really good, and its pretty cheap as well. you can get a lot of different subs for 1.99-2.99

The term "sub" is short for submarine sandwich, and is not used much in New York City, or northern New Jersey. The word used here is Hero, as in "Gimme a veal parmigian hero".
The best places in New York are the many ethnic delicatessens, and especially Italian food restaurants, and pizza places that feature heros. There are Blimpies', Subways, and Quiznos, but the delis and Italian places are far superior.

I voted for Other. My favorite subs come from a local restaurant called "Paragon". It doesn't even specialize in subs! These subs are amazing.
Out of the list, I'd vote for Quiznos.

I've only had one sub from all those places combined, and that is the Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki from Subway which I love to death and get any time I go.
The local shops around are much better than any chain though.

i would have to say either jersey mike's or lenny's. i used to live in tuscaloosa, alabama, and that's the only place i've ever seen a jersey mike's - but there may be more. and lenny's is fandamntastic. that's pretty much the only place i go for subs now

Interesting.
This is where it reports that peple say "Hero", not "Sub", in Northern New Jersey:
Submarine sandwich - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Submarine_sandwich)
I used to work in Jersey City, which is not far from New York City, but I don't remember what they were called there.
My wife works in Jersey a couple of days a week, and will ask her co-workers in Jersey what they call them.
Informal poll results will be posted here in a day or so.

At my wife's job in Jersey, they have a bunch of menus from all kinds of food places that they order from. I asked her to xerox a bunch to see what they call them (heros or subs).
Sometimes they order pizza from Brooklyn - several of the guys will drive in and bring back 15 or 20 pies.

Somebody should open a sandwich place called Hogan's Heros.
They could name their products after the characters: the Sgt. Schultz Liverwurst, Col. Klink's Turkey, LeBeau's French Fries, Hogan's Roast Beef Special, Hilda's Pork Ribs, etc.

Gotta be Subway. Either a meatball sub or a subway melt or that bbq rib one =] mmmmmmmmmmmmm
off of that list, quiznos. bellacino's has better subs but they bake them instead of toast them so it will be taking a minimum of 15 minutes to get yo ur sub if there is no line, normally closer to 20+ and it is not worth that kind of wait. really though i like about three different local places here better than anything that is a franchise.
I love them all. I got hooked on Subway, because there was one in my dorm hall. But the best I have had is a local sub shop in Springfield,IL called Head West Sub Shop.

All the chains suck equally.
You can't go wrong with a hot pastrami from any good Greek-owned pizza place... they cut the pizzas into fucking tiny party squares, but can rip up one hell of a grinder.

Ha! We've got a sub place here in AZ called CHEEBA HUT! The subs are pretty good. The large sub is called a blunt and thier subs are named after strains of weed. "can i get an AK-47 blunt?.." if you want a large meatball sub;)
