In truth it depends on how long you are in flower. The auxins that signal the plant it's in veg cycle are replaced with flower/bud auxins after about 3 weeks of 12/12. You can re-veg plants after you harvest them and I know of plenty of people who have done just that with great success.
The lower parts of the plant taken from the main stock have a better chance of success.
I suggest that you use a product called Anti-Wilt and dip your whole cutting in this product. It will seal in the moisture but still allow the plant to grow and breath. You will need extra time to allow the cutting to root as well.
Good luck & happy growing.
Storm Crow - well said, thanks!
